A building known as the "Granite House" was constructed in the early 1900s for the exhibition of #Maine granites. Charles D. Hubbard and George Walter Hinckley traveled around the state to gather specimens and secure oil sketches and paintings of quarries to adorn the walls. Today, the empty building is one of the attractions seen along the Good Will-Hinckley Trails in Fairfield.  Aislinn Sarnacki | BDN   #1minutehike #1minuteadventure #maineadventures #mainehike #bdnoutdoors

Musher Amy Dionne of Madawaska, who will be participating with her sled dogs in the 2016 Can-Am Crown 250-mile race beginning in Fort Kent on March 5, trained in Madawaska last weekend on some icy and almost snow-free trails. After hearing about some snowfall in the Allagash region over the weekend she said Monday she was looking forward to a snow-covered race course. Patches of snow and ice melt on the rocky shore of Mount Desert Island beside the Ocean Path of Acadia National Park. Though many of Acadia's roads close to vehicle traffic for the winter, the park's vast network of trails and roads are open for public recreation.  Aislinn Sarnacki | BDN
