FanEyes:Tampa
Tampa’s sand section was awesome!! I really enjoyed watching the best riders  struggle.. actually looked human, when they swapped, buried the front, end lost momentum and yes even falling over in the white demon sand!! What sucked about Tampa .. we lost another top rider in the 450 class to injury.. Cole Seely took a brutal fall, breaking pelvis and tailbone.. what I have heard is surgery went well, but no weight bearing for 8 weeks .. Cole we all wish you a speedy and full recovery..Hope to see you healthy and ready to go at the Monster Cup!!
Tomac won again and I like the way he did it !! Eli took his time first few laps, let everyone sort themselves out, stayed out of trouble, then worked his way forward .. He paced Marvin, who was leading at the time, watched his lines, found his weakness and made his move ... it did not stick first time .. but he stuck with his plan and second time Tomac was able to make a clean pass and pull away! We all know Eli is the fastest rider, now he is showing signs of maturing into a smart racer and that will be trouble for the field in the future !!
Musquin got off to a great start, led over half the race, finished second and in doing so took over second in the points chase. Marv can take a lot of positives into his week of training, but he has a lot to work on!! To these Fan Eyes, who really liked his inside line in the corner after crossing the start straight.. I feel he is still riding to conservative.. Example 1: Musquin did not do the quad quad that I saw .. Example 2: When Eli passed him the second time, Marv all but put is hand up and said I give. I don’t know if he was thinking big picture or Eli is in his head or what, but to me, he is doubting himself.. instead of trusting his talent. I hope Marv can find his mojo, start putting up a fight and make this a series!!
Anderson has been great all season at limiting the damage on his off nights and Jason did it once again in Tampa as he had to work his way to third after a poor start. Jason’s technique through the white sand helped him make up time each lap.. Hanging off the back, front end high.. looked like he was actually enjoying it and it was very entertaining to watch!! Anderson has such a big points lead it will be interesting to see how he plays it these next few races..
Webb has been qualifying close to the top each week, getting good starts and he is getting closer to the podium each race.. Cooper has learned that is not a given a 250 title leads to success in the 450 class.. He seems to have accepted the fact he has to work at the craft to get where he wants to go! I think he will get there, has all the talent necessary, now its is building the mental game !!
Tickle was seventh after the first lap and by the checkers Broc had put his KTM into the fifth position on the night, but he did it because Hill and Peick fell, which moved him up .. I like Broc, been a solid pro for many years now, but he is the benefactor of all the injures in the 450 class.. Tickle has had his share of injures over the years, so I wish him all the best going forward!!
Hill was the highlight of the night for me .. new blood in the class and he wasted no time showing he belonged! Qualified 4th in the afternoon .. went out and won his heat race.. then passed Webb and Tomac pulled up on Musquin only to make a timing error in his pass attempt and fall.. I do not think he would have won, due to the longer race, but I do think he would have found the podium.. after all he ended up setting the fastest lap of the night !! There is no doubt, Justin is gonna add some life to this series!!
The 250 class was another barn burner that ended with a first time winner Austin Forkner .. who trains right here in Oklahoma with Robbie Reynard.. so I was really happy for him .. Great start and into the lead on lap two he never looked back holding on to checkers.. Austin did not go unchallenged though.. for seven laps, last weeks winner Zach Osborne tried to reel him in, only to succumb to the days fastest qualifier, Dylan Ferrandis. Ferrandis spent the next nine laps working on a way around Forkner.. but he never found it.. all the while, their pace had them lap into the top ten.. Colt Nichols, last weeks runner up was ninth, last rider on the lead lap..
Next week it is on to Atlanta... it will be the second round of the Triple Crown where the 3 Main format will be used.. How will it be received by one of the best crowds of the series, on some of the best dirt the series will see .. Check back next week for this ole mans view ... Thanks for reading !!

FanEyes: Arlington
Drove to Dallas in 76 to attend my first Supercross. Sitting in the stands watching Hannah, Smith, Karasmakers, Ellis and my favorite, Tony D. got me hooked!! Since then I have made the trip down to Texas many times over the last 42 years, I have attend races in the Cotton Bowl, Texas Stadium and now the crown jewel, AT&T Stadium..I have to tell you, it does not matter how nice the stadium is ... Racing has always been the high light !! The talent on display has always amazed me, how those riders do what they do .. proves to me they are the best athletes in the world!! This year was no exception....
Tomac looked like the rider we know he is..dominate!! Simply the fastest guy all day..Never showed any weakness or resemblance to the rider who has scored 1 point at 2 rounds.. No this was the real Eli! Now can he be that guy for the next ten weeks and get back into this title chase?? If riders between Anderson and him keep dropping out of the series due to injury it should be easier to close the gap .. maybe .. still along way to go ... might as well quit speculating and enjoy the show folks !
Musquin is still in this championship despite missing a round .. while he did not look great during qualifying or his heat.. Marvin did settle down in the Main . He still did not look fast, I mean scary fast .. maybe he was just to smooth.. in my humble opinion he needs a little more confidence to really tap into his raw speed.. If he can do that .. Musquin will win several races and pull close in the points battle..
Baggett was smart in qualifying, he was pacing Tomac each time out .. Blake would stay half a section behind Eli and watch his lines .. try and hang with him during the fast laps.. It paid off later that evening as Baggett made his third trip in a row onto the box.. Don’t know if I would call him a contender at this point, but a lot of faster riders are out injured and this has been a crazy season so far .. so lets keep an eye on him and see if he can win one of these..
Anderson took a fall and came back through the pack to take fourth .. very “Dungey” looking .. did not go all crazy balls .. just rode fast and took what was there.. I know some do not like that strategy, but at this juncture of the season it is the smartest thing he can do.. Jason is the only rider who can match raw speed with Tomac going forward.. the more “Dungey” he can be, the better I like his odds of taking the Championship ...
Seely was solid all day .. rode smart stayed out of trouble and kept Cooper Webb at bay the entire Main. Cole over last couple years has been on the cusp of reaching the next level, he has lead races, looked to have everyone covered, only to start making mistakes and give those leads away.. I wonder if Seely relives those moments every time he gets out front..and that is whats is causing those errors.. This sport is so mental maybe riding a solid race like the one in Arlington is a sign that Cole has comes to grips with that reality..
Lost two more talents from the 450′s in Texas, Barcia and Grant.. this sport is so brutal, a rider makes a small error and the series he has worked so hard to compete in.. is over.. To all those talented riders who have suffered injure thus far.. we fans all appreciate your efforts and wish you a speedy and full recovery!!
The 250 class was a like a wild west show!! Action every where!! First heat we saw a awful head on collision.. when the Main started .. almost half the field was on the ground!! What was not a big shock was Zach Osborne working his tail off to pass his way up through the field to take the victory!! I really look forward to the Outdoors where rumor has it he is going to move up to the premier class.. What was a surprise, Colt Nichols taking second on the night after not even being sure he was going to race the week before .. I am a fan of Colts for two reasons.. like his style and he is a fellow Okie .. and I watched him closely in the Main .. when Zach passed him Colt caught his draft and pace which allowed him to follow him to the checkers.. Big fist bump to Jimmy D.. took that old Suzuki and put it on the box .. shows me that JGR can build a motor and Suzuki still has a competitive bike .. Maybe things have not changed as much as we thought technology wise .. or like fashion good things never go out of style!!
Well that’s it for this weeks view from an old man who is a fan  ..Thanks for checking it out .. hope you found some thing entertaining to take away from my ramblings !!

FanEyes: San Diego
Just when you thought things could not get any crazier for the Tomac camp.. They do!! First turn crash and Tomac scores one point for the second time this year.. Eli’s box score after 6 sounds ..two wins, two 22nds, a DNS and a 13th .. Who saw that coming for the guy everyone was about to hand the title to before the season!!
Anderson is proving me wrong .. couple weeks ago, I did not think he had reached the level of Championship contender.. not that I doubted his speed.. I did not think he could maintain, stay consistently in top 5.. Well props to Jason for showing I know nothing .. San Diego was another great ride for him ... decent start rode smooth, stayed controlled to reel in Seely.. made a clean pass and adios .. Really impressed with what we are seeing from El Hombre!!
Musquin put in a solid ride.. showed a little more aggression in his passes and in the whoops .. both good things! Marvin needs to have a little bit of an edge to him .. like Dungey before him, MM can wait to long to git-er-done when passing, to be the champ from this far down in the standings, Marv can not wait around .. He has to make things happen.. as for his beef with JA.. I think Marvin will chill out after a few days of riding together back in Florida .. grudges rarely improve a riders Championship hopes .. quite the opposite is true ..
Baggett back to back podiums .. very well done !! I am surprised, is it, because the last two tracks were technical or because Blake has finally honed his supercross skills?? Next few rounds should tell the tale!! Interesting part is BB is happily stirring the pot between the two riders who have been in front of him last two weeks .. If ya cannot get close enough to cause a mistake ..maybe close enough to benefit from some ill will between the two, as he mentioned in the press conference!!
Seely has got to be little upset with himself about now.. two weeks in a row, out front cruising, only to have those same three guys catch and pass him !! Cole has the smooth technique of a supercross winner .. but he does not have the nerves of steel it takes to be a Champion .. Yes I know Seely has won in the past .. but when you lead these guys and lose the race, you lose confidence and their respect .. They will hunt you down and and spit you out, until you stop the bleeding with a win!
Tickle for fifth!! Best finish of the year for Brock, who is one of the nicest guys on the track, but past his prime, was able to capitalized on all the carnage the main had..KTM is happy to have him as he gave them a fourth bike (wink wink) in the top five!!
Other things of note ..Barcia had a taste of bad luck.. Justin lost his rear brake early on and was forced to ride within limits.. which he did ..maybe this is a new BamBam!! Roczen and Bogle both got injured and will be out for the rest of the season it looks like .. Kenny’s wreck was on him.. Roczen may have been a little anxious to get back around Webb, after Cooper took some paint off Kenny’s Honda in the previous corner ..which lead Ken rushing his pass, making a huge mistake that cost him broken bones .. ..Bogle was taken out due to a racing incident .. traffic kept him from jumping a triple .. LeMay jumped it and landed on Justin's back .. video of the crash looks eerily similar to Canard getting landed on.. Bogle was lucky to only get a broken humorous.. could have been a lot worse judging from the tire marks found on Justin’s helmet..
In the 250 class, the real Justin Hill showed up .. Last week Hill awoke from the doldrums and found a podium .. this week Justin was looking like the 2017 version of himself .. Fast all day .. solid in the main .. Hill stalked Cianciarulo watching his lines for several laps before making his move around for the lead .. Adam gave it several strong attempts to re-pass the JGR rider, but Justin was acutely aware of where the Pro Circuit Kawasaki was and countered each attempt .. The 92 made a small bobble and that was that as the Yellow bike slipped away .. Battle for third was a good one with the Rookie Chase Sexton passing a sore Savatgy and putting some distance between them .. points leader Plessinger had an off night a poor start cause him to have to work to the front but an fall halted his charge plus cost him a position due to him cutting a corner ... not sure if it was intentional or just easier once he got back on the Yamaha..
Well there is my thoughts on round 6... next week I will be at Arlington .. I will be down on the track .. I will try and get a few pics and pick up on any gossip .. til then .. Thanks for reading this ole man’s view of Supercross !!

FanEyes: So Far
The Oakland round was one of the best races in recent memory, both classes featured drama and close racing on a soft rutted track that challenged the best riders on earth to make a lap with out a mistake ..
In the premier class, the track broke down then Anderson and Roczen threw down .. Anderson, the Championship points leader, forced a nasty block pass on his training partner as Jason mounted his charge to chase down the Roczen, the rider we all want watch complete his comeback with a victory.. with to laps to go they were side by side, both riders were tired and making mistakes.. Roczen made the last mistake allowing Anderson by to take the win..
In the 250 class, red plate holder Plessinger lead most of the race, but he was sick and began to wear down, we watched his lead evaporate as the last few laps wound down, but Aaron put delivered one of those career defining rides, digging deep, holding on to win by the smallest of margins, then collapsing to the ground in exhaustion..
I don’t think Hollywood could have written a better version of a race or of the season for that matter.. Would they written the season to begin wide open due to the retirement of the previous champion..Could they have come up with a such a diverse cast of characters for us to root for..  A former factory rider, only able to secure a fill in ride weeks before the season .. A rider coming back off a horrific injury..  A rider coming in to the season on a roll that saw him win a Million Dollars in one night and last years runner up, who dominated 9 events, being a solid championship favorite .. Would we have bought into all the drama that has ensued? Favorites struggles, parity of the pack and the emergents of a new star..
San Diego is the last we will see of Plessinger, Savatgy, Cianciarulo, McElrath and rookie sensation Sexton for a few weeks, as the 250 west goes on break.. The preseason picks in the 450 class need to resurrect their season, now find their mojo and restore their confidence before the season goes east.. What would Hollywood write?? Would it surpass what is going to surprise us come Saturday night?? Guess we are gonna have to tune in and watch the telecast to see what happens next ..I hope the drama and surprises, become the norm and a racer dominating the rarity !!

Last week, I was forced to miss the first Triple Crown race due to working my real job.. yeah I know I should have DVR, but I am cheap, so needless to say after a week with out racing, I was anxious to get my Supercross fix Saturday night .. the track was exceptional and it helped create great racing all evening long!!!
Tomac, who was 10th fastest in afternoon qualifying and finished 3rd in his heat race nailed the start of the Main taking the holeshot and held that position to the checkered flag, but it was not a dominate win... Eli pulled out to an early lead do to the battle that raged behind .. at the halfway point he was up about 4 seconds on second place, but as the laps wound down his lead began to shrink little by little .. at first I thought he was managing the race.. but with 3 laps to go the lead was down to just over a second and any bobble could cost him serious points .. I am sure he did not want to let his competition get that close.. after he took the win .. Eli was smiling ear to ear .. relieved to have won!!  Tomac was tested in Glendale!!
Barcia did not set the world on fire during qualifying either, eighth place .. and fourth in his heat, but a great start in the Main left him sitting in third, pressing hard to take over second, which he did with a creative line .. jumping across the inside of a corner forcing his way past Peick. Once in second Justin made a few mistakes as he pressed to close in on Eli.. after the half way mark he actually settled down and laid down some very fast laps closing the gap on Eli.. Barcia got close but the mistakes came back as I am sure the nerves did as he closed in.. Still second on the night and second in the championship points for a fill in rider.. Justin has to feel real good!!!
Roczen had a forgettable race at A2, Kenny put that behind him by qualifying second and taking a solid second in his stacked heat race.. an average start forced Roczen to pass a couple riders just to be in fifth at the end of lap one.. Ken hit his marks, limited his mistakes and on lap 7 moved into third.. but he was almost 7 seconds behind the leader.. With a clear track Roczen put in some fast laps and closed in on second but time ran out leaving him to take the last spot on the podium ..
Anderson was fastest in qualifying, looked great as he took his heat race win, but then in the Main after a fourth place start something strange began to happen.. Jason worked his way back to eighth place making mistake after mistake .. Usually once a rider is struggling that bad he continues to lose spots.. Anderson however was able to shake off what ever was troubling him, find his groove and make his way back through the field to finish in fourth.. they say winning a title takes limiting the damage on your bad days .. Jason did just that, it will be couple more months before we see if he takes the title..
Musquin looks to still be suffering the effects of his shoulder injury, 12th fastest in qualifying is not where you expect to see Marvin.. Same thing with his heat race .. sixth.. not where we expect to find him .. In the Main Musquin was credited with sixth after one lap..Marvin rode steady and smart, never really looking good through the whoops, but at least he was not jumping through them.. He passed into fourth on lap 11 and held pace until Anderson caught fire, moving Marv back into fifth on lap 18.. Musquin managed to hold on to a top five finish just ahead of Peick..
The 250 class was very highly contested .. at least for a bit of the Main... Savatgy took the lead over McElrath and Plessinger on lap one, before lap two was completer McElrath moved past Savatgy and looked to check out .. Plessinger would have none of that as on lap 3 he worked into second and started closing the gap on Shane.. 3 laps later after a great run through the whoops got him close Aaron took the lead and down the rhythm section moved over and slammed the door on McElrath .. The 28 hung tough for couple more laps, but had nothing for the dancing machine known as Aaron Plessinger who went on to win ... action for third was a battle of team mates ..Cianciarulo came through the pack to catch Savatgy, who right on cue had a brain fart and fell in a corner letting Adam by ..Joey could not catch back up .. maybe because of all the energy he used having to run the LCQ..so he settled for a disgusted fourth..
Shout out to Justin Bogle who made his first race of the season at Glendale...  not a great ride.. but he was solid in putting in laps finding the pace and keeping the rubber side down .. I am sure in the next couple rounds Justin will find his groove and begin to push forward.. Also hoping to see more from Justin Hill in the 250 class.. Hill qualified with the third fastest time of the afternoon, but poor starts haunt him and he does not seem to be able to come through the field the way we would expect last years champ to .. I still expect him to have a break out race before the series moves to the East coast rounds...
Well that is it for this week..  thanks for reading .. if you like it tell a friend .. always use more followers ... Check back in next week !!

FanEyes:Houston
The Big Question going into round two in Houston was whether Tomac would be able to race after his shoulder contusion sustained while leading A1.. Eli did all he could during the week to be ready .. So did Dean Wilson who also suffered a shoulder injury in the opener.. The answer came for both, a resounding and perhaps championship crushing NO.. both tried to tough it out and ride, but wisely decided to wait and heal rather than risk another fall due to lack of strength perhaps causing more damage...
The biggest shock of Houston was the shoulder injury to round one winner Marvin Musquin.. a fall in the whoops during his heat race, dislocated his shoulder..they got it put back in place, taped it up in an effort to get Marvin out on the line for the LCQ, but Marvin did not feel comfortable racing knowing he did not have the strength in the shoulder .. he made the wise choice to sit out and heal rather than risk further injury ...
Now for those who where able to compete ..
Anderson set the fastest qualifying time during the afternoon putting him in the second heat.. which he won .. In the Main, Jason came from a fifth place start to chase down Roczen for the lead, after making the pass he pulled away, maintaining a comfortable lead to the checkered flag. The win gives Anderson, Hewitt and the Rockstar Husky team the red plate going back to Anaheim for the first Tripple Crown race ..
Roczen rode well in qualifying 2nd, won his heat race and in the Main got a great start, battled Barcia early before taking sole possession of the lead.. After leading for a few laps and getting reeled in by Anderson, Kenny surprised me and did the mature thing and rode his own race.. He did not go crazy trying to get back around Jason, he played it cool rode his own race and took second place points and now stands second in the championship..
Barcia, who qualified ninth, was looking little off pace, but was able to make it two second in his heat .. When the gate dropped for the Main Justin jammed in to the first corner and challenged Kenny for the lead..couple laps in Barcia made a few mistakes and began to drop a few spots, looking more like Barcia of the past than the Justin of last week.. Mid race however,  Barcia regained his composure, picked up his pace and passed Seely to get back into podium position..Barcia now sits in third in the standing after two events.. very good for a fill in rider.
Other riders of note, Webb fell in the first corner of the main, broke his clutch lever and struggled to 12 place.. Cooper is not starting the season the way he had anticipated.. Reed got one start closer to the all time record, while Malcolm Stewart made his first start of the year as a fill in rider for JGR..landing just outside the top ten.
In the 250 class, the treacherous Houston track was no match for Aaron Plessinger.. He was able to move up past Cianciarulo, McElrath and Savatgy to take the lead..which he never gave up securing his first win of the season.. Plessinger then treated the fans in Houston to a victory dance .. Savatgy managed to hold on to second, while the surprise of the race was third place rider Chase Sexton in just his second Supercross..He was strong the whole race moving past many more experienced riders, including the points leader and favorite coming into the race McElrath.
Next week the series moves back to Anaheim for the first of the Triple Crown races where the 3 Main format will be used and a lot of questions to be answered .. Will it have the intended effect on TV viewers .. How will it effect the championship points .. Will Tomac, Musquin and Wilson be back in action.. Guess we will have to tune to see how this all plays out.. Thanks for reading!!

FanEyes:A1
Well the anticipation for this race was off the charts.. Feld had implemented a few new rules, took away the semis and changed the point system up, but what we all wanted to see was how Roczen would do coming back from his devastating injury.. if Tomac would start off slow, as he did in the beginning of 17 or dominate, as he did late in 17.. If Musquin’s off season win streak would lead to success once the real season got under way.. We wondered if Anderson, Baggett, Barcia or Webb could take it to the next level, shock the world and be the MC of 93? We did not get all the answers, but here is what we did learn..
Roczen is back.. fastest qualifier of the day, in his heat race, he rode smart, did not let his emotions get in the way when Webb through a big whip in his face and worked from a mediocre start to 3rd.. In the Main after a mid pack start, Kenny worked his way forward, avoided disaster when his foot inadvertently came off the peg, stayed focused and finished 4th ..Kenny showed his speed is still amazing, his mental strength is non wavering and barring injury will be in the championship hunt..This could turn out to be one of the sports all time greatest comeback stories come the end of May..
Tomac is still a bit of an enigma, just a tenth of a second behind Roczen in qualifying second, in his heat Eli was the fastest rider as he worked up from a mid pack start to finish behind Anderson, whom he was reeling in. In the Main, with a good start, he was quickly into the lead and pulling away, it looked like a dominate win was in the immediate future for Tomac..but suddenly Eli made a small mistake, quickly and harshly he hit the turf. Eli remounted and got back going still inside the top 5, but the bike was tweaked and worse yet, his pants were trying to fall off!! The fall had some how caused the snap to disengage..Eli pulled over and tried to snap them back, but his sky rocketing heart rate combined with the frustration of falling while leading, had his hands shaking so badly he struggled mightily.. Eli slowly circulated the track before pulling into the mechanics area, then onto the pits, his evening done before the leader made it to the half way point of the race.. Just like that Eli found himself down 25 points to who ever would win the race..
Musquin did not look comfortable all day.. He qualified fifth.. His heat was not any better, where he was fourth at the checkered flag and his best lap was almost two seconds off the winner Barcia’s time. A mediocre start seemed to indicate that Marv’s charmed life had been beset by reality. Musquin did not give up, he kept plugging away, slowly he found his rhythm and began moving forward, with Tomac down and out Marv chased down race leader Barcia made the pass and held on to take the win. While it was not pretty, it was a win, no matter how unexpected and just like that Marvin became the first rider in Supercross history to score 26 points for a win..
Anderson qualified just couple tenths behind Roczen and Tomac proving he had the speed .. Jason then came out and won his heat race over Tomac, again showing everyone he was for real. In the Main worked his way up to second and kept his training partner honest to the end taking a solid second. Jason won this race a couple years ago and has won a couple more races since, but i never took him for a championship contender, until now.. Jason now has the speed, experience, trainer and the team behind him to reach the next level in this sport. I now consider him a major player and championship contender..
Barcia was the biggest unknown coming into the season behind Roczen. The last 3 years he had been riddled with injury, riding bikes he was not happy with leading to sub par results for the once budding superstar. Coming into this season Justtin was once again happy and healthy prepared to race on his own dime, when the cards of fate fell his way Yamaha needed a fill in ride an they were offering it to him... many thought it was fool move by the Blue team, but once qualifying began, Justin quickly made them look like geniuses. Justin was atop the qualifying off and on finally landing in 3rd. In the night show, he took his heat win and in the Main he was running second when Tomac went down. Guarantee Vegas odds were over 100 to 1 Bam Bam would be leading A1 at the half way point. While he did succumb to Anderson and Musquin, it was only because of lack of prep time on the Yamaha, Barcia still has the talent to be a contender, it will be interesting to see how it plays out for him over the next few rounds ...
Couple other riders we thought would be in the mix Baggett and Webb had a rather tough go of it . Webb was ninth in qualifying, while Baggett was 12th.. In Heat 1 Blake managed to get third, in Heat 2 Webb was back in sixth. Come Main time both riders struggled, Webb just could not put together clean laps, same with Baggett they battled the last few laps with Jeremy Martin to try and finish inside the top ten. Webb succeeded landing in 10th, but could not have been happy about it because at the press conference Cooper threw out he wanted to humble a few riders, he better have humbled one.. Blake ended up 12th, way below what he expected also.. Good news for both is,it was just first round of 17, they have plenty of time to get things worked out, find their groove and move up and challenge for podiums ..
250 class was owned for the second year in a row by Shame Mcelrath as he led all 18 laps and was never seriously challenged. Plessinger rode to a solid second, never able to close on Shane, but he held off Cianciarulo who pressured him for most of the moto. The surprise of this class was the dismal finish for Justin Hill last years champ who was unable to move up from his mid pack start finishing in seventh. Justin admitted he rode like crap and vowed to bring it at round two..
Well that is all for this week, looking forward to next weekend where the guys will line up in Houston for the first time in several years.. What new revelations will round two unveil.. Who will rise up and who will taste disappointment.. Always reasons to tune in and watch the most exciting sport on TV this time of year ...

FanEyes: 2018 Supercross !!
Supercross is back this Saturday night, when Anaheim’s Angel stadium plays host once again to round 1 of Feld Entertainment’s Monster Supercross Series. We are all looking forward to getting things kicked off, we all want to know.. Who will step up and be the “Guy” ? How will the rule changes effect the racing and the health of the sport. It will take 18 weeks before we have those answers..
For the last 8 seasons a Ryan has won the Supercross Championship, Villopoto and Dungey each taking 4 titles, with both retired, who ever wins the championship this year, it will he his first 450 Supercross title.. Baring injury, I think there is only 3 riders who can be that ‘Guy”..
Tomac is simply the fastest rider on the circuit, using data from last season.. most wins by any rider and most nights Eli made it look easy..
Musquin is the smoothest, most technical rider in the field. Marvin is very precise and consistent, rarely makes a mistake, and is on quite a roll this off season winning every thing he has entered..
Roczen is the most mentally strong rider we have today. Ken’s determination and self belief  coupled by the confidence in his program has brought him back from the depths of a possible career ending injury..
Anderson, Baggett, Bogle, Seely,Tickle, Webb and Wilson will be in the mix, all have the ability to win.. Every race they will be battling trying to reach the next level, which creates great racing,.. but I don’t think any of them can take the huge step up to be the “Guy”
There is going to be a few changes implemented this season. The most interesting change will be to the race format. A 3 Main event format, will be used at 3 races this season,  if it keeps TV viewers from changing the channel during the broadcast, look for the move to be implemented at every round ext season.
Personally, I think that format will help the sport in two ways: The casual fan gets to see more of the “Big Name” riders, whom he may have heard of and the hard core fans can appreciate the close, intense racing that will be created by having more laps featuring the Best Supercross riders in the world..
Check back next week and see what this ole man thought about A1 2018!!

. Herlings win in Indiana and at the USGP has sparked the ever present, who is better debate.. Have the Euros surpassed the USA on the motocross track. If you judge it by depth of field, yes would be my answer. I have stated before Tomac and Anderson would be in contention at a MX1 race any where in the world, we have seen that, so one would have to think a healthy Baggett would be right there too. After that hard to image Seely, Bogle, Wilson, Pieck or even Webb in the top ten on an GP track. Not that they are not talented enough, it is just not what they are used to .. GP and Nationals are both motocross, but done very different.. To put the shoe on the other foot, not a single Euro rider could finish inside the top ten at a Supercross.. It is not what they are used to.. There are lot of talented riders on both sides!!

Fan Eyes: Nationals .. 2017
Well were did the summer go? The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series has came and gone ... It was full of surprises from the get go.. Dungey retired leaving Tomac a heavy favorite, but he had his hands full with Musquin and Baggett.. which led to some interesting banter. Then Musquin hurt his knee, Baggett his thumb and suddenly Tomac was again suppose to catch fire, win and take the title..but Musquin had a miraculous regeneration and he reeled off six moto wins while Eli struggled. The points came down to the last race, to the last moto..  Tomac earned the title, but not as easily as we all expected. Eli had to overcome bad starts, bike malfunctions and silly falls.. he did not just run off and hide from the competition. Musquin transformed into a title contender, after he adjusted to Dungey’s retirement, accepted the lead rider role, you could see him grow as a rider through out the series..Baggett proved he was very close to bringing El Chupacabra to the 450 class.. Anderson shows flashes of speed and close to putting it all together until injury.. Several riders showed promise .. Wilson and Bogle both showed a glimpse of the promise from there 250 days.. Peick stayed solid on the JGR Suzuki and you gotta think Barcia and Tickle would have had podium during the season. 2017 actually lived up to expectations and was never boring in the the 450 class..
The 250 class was Osborne Osborne Osborne... Zach was simply faster stronger and more confident.. He let each race come to him.. He took advantage of his good starts, never panicked after a bad start, he simply put his head down gave max effort either way.  Alex Martin was keeping him honest until injury claimed him.. Jeremy Martin claimed a ton of holeshots, but he uncharacteristically fell down at the worst of times.. Cianciarulo had the same trouble, silly falls and late race fade, but he did finally win his first Outdoor.. Pro Circuit Kawasaki struggled early with engine issues, Forkner, Savatgy and Hill all lost major points due to it.
Motocross rules Supercross drools .. real racing takes place outdoors !!
Supercross is a very entertaining! It is a great experience to hang in the pits all afternoon then go into a modern stadium, sit and watch a 3 hour show of clean, sanitized artificial motocross.. enjoy it ...but nothing compares to a day at an Outdoor National .. Motocross is what I fell in love with as a boy, its what I dreamed about and it is where I love to spend my time ..I want to thank MX Sports for granting me access to the races, the reporting I do does not pay me anything, so their help is appreciated.. To those who read my articles in the Rochester Post Bulletin, Stillwater News Press, Daily Oklahoman or the Muskogee Phoenix, I hope you enjoyed them and I was able to bring a little of my love of the sport to you ..
