In case you needed any more evidence that the trans rights activist movement is insane, maybe this failed ‘Interview with a TERF’ will do it for you. It tells young people that they never need to have difficult discussions that might make them uncomfortable – they can just complain of their feelings being hurt & have any further conversation censored. Note especially how a few commenters even said Olivia was expressing interesting, good talking points, but that simply didn’t matter because they didn’t want to hear or engage with it. They voted for this, it was clearly signposted in case they didn’t want to read it: some say they even felt bad for reading it & shouldn’t have, but rather than taking responsibility for their action of choosing to read it, they instead say it’s a reason it shouldn’t be up in the first place. Truly a toxic, close-minded movement.

^also why they've got a problem with febfems because the idea of being attracted to someone but not wanting to have sex with/date them is outrageous in a world where sex positivity means sexual availability to anyone you're attracted to

tbh, i find the emergence of the concept of demisexuality very interesting, and i’m partial to thinking it’s a symptom of hypersexualized patriarchal culture that demands full sexual availability of women. wanting to develop an emotional bond before having sex is actually a very common and even normative thing, yet nowadays women seem to be under so much pressure to have casual sex that they strongly identify with demisexuality to justify the limits of their sexual comfort zone.

i wonder how the idea that not wanting to have sex with people you don’t know well needs its own label might be connected with the “sex-positive” movement and its ideas of “sexual empowerment”. we’ve conceptualized being sexual (as opposed to “half-sexual”) in very strict terms and reached a point where certain sexual behaviours, such as casual sex, are not just seen as normal and accepted but actually positioned as a required part of “full” sexuality, and by doing that we’ve abnormalized not wanting to have sex with people you don’t know well, which is alarming because there is an immense pressure on women to be sexually available to men.

I’ve seen so much blatant misinformation about politics on social media lol. And not just in a right wing Alex Jones “they’re turning the frogs gay!!” kind of way either. There’s a lot of young people on the left who don’t know how the branches of government work, how laws are passed/made, and what power [insert a position like attorney general or something] actually has. A lot of young people are now becoming politically aware which is fantastic!! It’s good to actively engage in politics on a local and global level! However it’s important to learn how your government actually works and to think critically. Social media has encouraged what I call “sound bite activism” as in, entire concepts/histories/ideologies get boiled down into sound bites because you only have so many characters you’re allowed to type on whatever platform so everything has to be completely watered down. More often than not, those tweets, posts or threads are wildly incorrect and end up going viral and shaping people’s politics. I am begging you to please read things on your own and think critically! Don’t let some verified talking head on twitter do your thinking for you!
