Luke being given a quest at 17, feeling like there's no glory in it because it's a quest someone's already succeeded before, but then failing that very quest he considered to be beneath him, getting a permanent scar, "ruining it" for the rest of the campers because now no one else can go on quests and earn glory in the eyes of the gods, so he turns to Kronos, and years later here comes a possible candidate for the great prophecy, 12 years old, gets the first quest the camp has done since Luke's fucked it up, and Luke is actively ensuring this quest is an impossible quest!! he's literally rigged it so Percy's gonna fail (the shoes, the bolt appearing in his bag) and then this kid somehow succeeds still??? and not only that, Percy got the unique quest Luke wanted in the first place and achieved feats no one else had and earned glory in the eyes of his father, all because Luke created the circumstances for that to happen??
oh my god yeah I don't think I'd ever recover from that either
#the show did show this really well#there wasnt a lot of time spent on it but it was some really well spent time

genuinely stunned at the fantastic choice for Percy not to pray to his absent and unknown father—like he did in the books—but to his mother.
the show is really taking us to one of riordan’s central theses straight off the bat.
parenthood isn’t about power and legacy and the recognition of shared blood.
It’s about the incredible act of showing up for your child—again and again and a-fucking-gain. That’s how you inspire respect. That’s how you become a child’s patron and beloved god.

he surrendered immediately. Zeus tried to kill his kid and he showed up and surrendered immediately. Zeus will hold that over his head for decades, he will be the subject of ridicule of Olympus for ages. But the moment Percy was about to die, he was there. That means some shit.
#Poseidon beating the bad dad allegations in 10 minutes#they changed the scene and Poseidon to be way better in my mind#also it was really funny how quickly some people switched their opinion on the deadline change because of it

I think the thing that really gets me about the Poseidon and Sally scene in episode 7 is the fact that there is zero resentment between the two of them. Poseidon comes running when Sally calls, acknowledges continuously that Sally is a good mother and validates her feelings. And Sally smiles when she asks Poseidon if he wants to talk to Percy, wants to hear his voice just once. There is no resentment there, no matter the dangerous and dramatic circumstances between them. Just the remembrance of a deep love that can no longer be, and the union of a common goal in keeping the product of that love safe from harm.
#it was so much fun when Poseidon showed up#and they gave them such an interesting dynamic#it was such a good scene

I have definitivly gotten mild attachment issues vibes. And that is so sweet of Triton i didnt think of him doing it to raise percys spirits.
I just saw you posted a new chapter! And this is really showing Poseidons more caring side and I loved that by the end his and percys relationship has improved a great deal. I had honestly forgotten Thetis went to Florida but I suspect she suspects theres more to the story than what percy said. And I really liked her and Poseidon saying they dont need to go to work when they probably do. And I loved everything with grover. I can totally imagine him being really nervous going up to Triton then being shocked when Triton drags him along home. And the Thalia and Zeus mention was absolute gold.
- balladoffairytales
Thank you!! Definitely more light-hearted and way more progress in terms of everyone's relationships! Thetis being in Florida was very intentional because Poseidon needed to solo-parent this whole situation for at least 24 hours (idk if it comes across but these two have been besties for years and since Amphitrite died they've had a mild attachment issue, though Thetis is really trying to bully Poseidon into being a competent single dad).
I love Grover and I love the idea of Triton being like 'yoink' and happily bringing him home because he knows he'll raise Percy's spirits. I also love Poseidon's disdain for his family hehe. I'm glad you liked it, thank you as always!!! :D
#btw the reason i didnt see it before was because i was convinced you werent gonna update before yesterday#so i didnt even check on saturday

something i feel like we don’t talk about nearly enough is the fact that percy is healed by water.
it’s so normal to us because it’s one of the first abilities we discovered he has. and it makes complete sense. but like… he’s the only demigod with that ability. jason doesn’t get healed by a gust of wind. hazel doesn’t get healed if she touches a diamond. nico doesn’t get healed if a skeleton gives him a hug. annabeth doesn’t get healed if she walks into a library.
like percy could be stabbed in the chest multiple times, he could break every bone in his body, he could be slammed in the head resulting in a crushed skull and hemorrhaging, but get him to some water fast enough and not only is he good as new in no time, but he’s stronger and freshly rejuvenated.
it’s insane when you think about it. no one else can do that. do you know how hard it is to kill percy? even if he’s not near the ocean, he can be healed by rivers and lakes and streams and ponds and all sorts of water sources. water recharges him. it makes him immediately stronger.
that’s a huge reason why i argue percy is the most powerful demigod. yes, he’s shown he has incredible super strength and super speed. yes, he’s a legendary sword fighter - arguably the best one alive. yes, he has control over air, land, and sea. (deadly hurricanes with heavy winds and thunder and lighting, huge volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, etc.) yes, he’s capable of mass destruction. yes he can single handlely cause natural disasters and mass casualties. and yes, he’s capable of controlling people’s bodily fluids, including their blood and saliva. he is terrifying
but even if someone manages to beat him, he dips one toe in some water and he’s immediately healed and even stronger than before. whether the injury is internal and external. he’s healed all on his own. no ambrosia or nectar or external remedies necessary.
guys. percy is insane. he’s way overpowered.
and i love it.
#this is so good#and it is true it doesnt get talked about a lot#people tend to focus on the hurricane making volcano erupting powers#whe talking about how powerful percy is#but the water healing and rejuvinating him does make him near invincible

ep 4 of the show was actually craaaazy imagine athena getting downright embarrassed in at the weekly family mail opening meeting because your 12 year old daughter was an accomplice in playing the biggest screw you to the gods in forever and then there's poseidon whose son was the one who CAME UP w the idea and he's like my parenting MY parenting im so proud of him. im going to help him on his quest right now actually. why is he falling.
