This is a sideblog, but I try to follow everyone back from my personal. *posts may trigger* Salvio Hexia, Protego Totalum. Protego Maxima. Fianto Duri. Repello Inimicum... Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everyone I've ever known. "Memory is a selection of images. Some elusive, others printed indelibly on the brain..." - Eve's Bayou "How we remember, what we remember and why we remember form the most personal map of our individuality." - Christina Baldwin "Life and death, energy and peace. If I stop today it was still worth it. Even the terrible mistakes that I made and would have unmade if I could. The pains that have burned me and scarred my soul, it was worth it, for having been allowed to walk where I've walked, which was to hell on earth, heaven on earth, back again, into, under, far in between, through it, in it, and above." - Gia Carangi "we're alive right now. we are breathing. we are loved. we have voices and stories and dreams and ideas. we have hope. we will wake up tomorrow to a day that has never been known. we are living a life that has never been lived. WE ARE HERE FOR A REASON." - Jamie Tworkowski, To Write Love On Her Arms "Take a deep breath, calm down. Take ten steps back from a knife, lighter, or mirror. Turn on your iPod, lay on the floor and take more breaths. You are worth more than this, it doesn't have control over you. You're the one who will form your destiny, your own pathways through life. Don't let shit tie you down or break you. It's okay to cry, breath again. You're alive and you're wonderful." - Unknown "Survival is really very difficult. Memories are dangerous things. You turn them over and over, until you know every touch and corner, but still you’ll find an edge to cut you.

Mari Mari Mari. What did you think of 13 Reasons Why?
I deliberately didn’t watch the show for ~reasons. But a now ex friend sent me the clips of both rape and the suicide scenes.
Based on that, and coming home from multiple crisis groups, I definitely have opinions on it. (now before you people start coming for me, I don’t think you need to watch the whole show to realize it’s dangerous)
First, let’s get the fact that initially, there were not sufficient warning about the graphic content in the show, out of the way. After the backlash the show received, Netflix was forced to add more warnings to the show as a whole and especially the specific episodes in question.
Second, the graphic nature of it. I understand the reasons why, but I still don’t think it was necessary. It was essentially shock value, but for better reasons. They wanted people to understand how traumatic and upsetting the event was. For someone who has never experienced rape and/or suicide, then it might have worked. But for someone who has been through one or both, it probably did more harm than good. After seeing the scenes myself, I think it could have been done in a way that wasn’t as graphic but still got the point across.
After I got home from multiple crisis groups, it seems like it did more harm than good. A lot of people in the groups, including adults, were really shook by it. And most of them were not shook in a good way. It really opened people up, who were vulnerable at the time.
Third, there was nothing about mental health outreach, aside from one untrained counselor. For a show that was touted to be about mental health, it didn’t show teenagers that there are ways, besides suicide, to get help. There was no talking about texting the crisis line, no talk of TWLOHA, therapy, nothing that could’ve helped her. Yes when you’re that set on doing what she did. you’re no longer thinking clearly. But there wasn’t talk about it period. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
I don’t think the show did what it claimed to set out to do. Yes it created an open forum to talk about mental health. But it created an open forum without resources to help in the aftermath.
I encourage you, especially if you’re easily triggered and are contemplating watching the show, to watch @katimorton video about it first.

The thing about an anxiety disorder is that you know it is stupid. You know with all your heart that it wasn’t a big deal and that it should roll off of you. But that is where the disorder kicks in; Suddenly the small thing is very big and it keeps growing in your head, flooding your chest, and trying to escape from under your skin. You know with all of your heart that you’re being ridiculous and you hate every minute of it. The fact that many people don’t recognize or have patience for your illness only makes everything worse.

It’s still ED awareness week, so please share and +1 Today I answer some of your questions about eating disorders. 1. How would you define a ‘binge’? I tend to eat a lot more than everyone else in my family and they constantly bring it up, like “oh, (my name) will eat it if you’re full”. It’s starting to really bother me thinking that I’m eating too much. I never thought of it as a binge but I do eat a lot… So how do I know if it’s actually a binge or I just require a lot of food?? 2. I have just started to reach out for help and have a doctors appt soon. I was just wondering if I have to talk about everything I’m struggling with to fully recover? thanks!
