The problem with being ADHD and having trouble reading long, rambling sentences and paragraphs that go on and on is that having ADHD makes you more likely to write in long, rambling sentences and paragraphs that go on and on do you see the problem I am encountering

It’s absolutely Marvelous when you’re busy doing something else entirely and out of nowhere a story thing just clicks and now the planets are alligned and the strings of fate have come untangled and your characters are where they need to be and everything just makes sense

Please consider carefully whom you get writing advice from online. Even if you agree with something, and even if it’s prefaced with “this won’t work for everyone,” who’s saying it? Do you actually like their writing, or does the post just sound like that’d probably work? Have they posted a sample of what they’re discussing, and is it relevant to your personal goals? Be wary of people’s advice, always.
Now, this applies to me, too! I’m fully aware that I do not as of yet have a completed novel available to read. This means that, while I enjoy discussing my long-term editing process, nobody is under any obligation to take that as advice. I would hope that everybody who reads my posts thinks to themself about how they feel about my work (Is it polished? Have I edited it enough times, and with enough eyes? What have I missed?) and what it is I have done (What do my edited short stories and collections say about my overall process?) before taking it wholeheartedly as The Way Things Ought To Be Done.
And always weigh highest the advice of those who are successful in the right way, because an indie werewolf romance author who makes six figures a year under a pseudonym will have a wildly differing opinion when compared to a traditionally published science fiction author with big name recognition. If you want to be an indie-published author, the latter may not have good advice for you. If you want to write in different genres, neither might be able to help your branding. Don’t be afraid to ask directly the people whose writing, publishing, brand, or base you’d most like to emulate.
We are all Internet strangers on here–me most of all. I would hope that people who reblog my advice posts are considering all of these things, and are judging me carefully. Please don’t just take what I say and run with it! I will do my absolute best to advise, always, and I would hope that the people who listen have done their due diligence as well.

lizard people is the most benign possible antisemitism but for some reason it hits me harder than overtly malicious antisemitism, i think bc it’s The Case Study of how easily an antisemitic trope can just become a normal part of everybodys vocab and after that ppl will fight you endlessly on whether or not its actually antisemitic

It’s okay if your words aren’t flowing well today!
It’s okay if things aren’t turning out as well as you hoped!
It’s okay if you need to take a break from writing!
It’s okay if you really don’t like your writing right now!
None of this means that you’re a bad writer. Do what you need to do to relax and help yourself feel better. Don’t force yourself to write if you don’t want to right now.
Tomorrow will be a better day :)

Just a reminder that being bad at writing doesn’t mean you should stop writing.
We’re all bad at writing at some point, the same way we’re all bad at everything when we start off. I’ve looked back at some of my old stuff, and it’s…not good.
But if I had given up when I was still in the not-good stage, I would never have moved past it. You won’t magically get better by stopping.
So keep writing. Even if you think you’re bad at it. Even if you know you’re bad at it.
