MoboMarket Launched a Video Campaign to Against Stereotypes
Baidu’s own Android marketplace, MoboMarket, recently launched the #PlayTogetherWinTogether campaign to bring a fresh angle to the usual conversation that happens during India’s IPL season. Instead of focusing on team rivalries, MoboMarket sought to bring everyone together this IPL season, no matter the team one supports, by rejecting the stereotypes that can be a source of friction between Indians from different regions. With the theme “PlayTogetherWinTogether” in mind, MoboMarket shared three videos portraying the stories of how three different people coming from Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Punjab defy the stereotypes associated with their regions. Each video aimed to invite viewers to share their own stories of overcoming stereotypes and ultimately, to celebrate everyone’s uniqueness and achieve unity in diversity.
#PlayTogetherWinTogether went live on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube from the 24th to the 31st of May, 2016. The campaign garnered 16.8 million impressions and reached 4.9 million people across a variety of channels.[bb1] The #PlayTogetherWinTogether campaign videos garnered over 1.1 million views. The video featuring the story of a Bengali girl was the most popular of the campaign, with 455,726 views on Facebook.
In the end, the campaign successfully managed to encourage people to rethink their views on stereotypes through active conversations online, learn from each other’s experiences, and in doing so, achieve a greater acceptance and understanding of each other’s uniqueness.
Below are some of the stories shared by Baidu fans about how they overcame stereotypes in their own way:

New Delhi, 30 March 2016 – To show its appreciation to its millions of app users in India, Baidu, Inc. (NASDAQ: BIDU) hosted its first ever Holi celebration on March 24th 2016 in Mumbai, India. The party featured celebrity guests, a target shooting contest and gift voucher giveaways of up to INR 2,000 on social media. Through this and other events in India, Baidu aims to strengthen cultural exchange with its local users and improve its products and services.
“I know about Holi through photos and videos, but actually celebrating it in India is a totally different and vibrant experience,” said Michelle Bugante, Global Marketing Manager at Baidu. “This highlights the importance of immersing in local culture, so we can better understand our users and keep improving our apps for them,” she said.
In addition to the offline party, Baidu India also held an online social campaign called #DUHoliWithStars, which called upon Baidu’s international users to show their love for DU Battery Saver, DU Speed Booster and MoboMarket by sharing a photo of their smartphone with one of Baidu’s apps installed.

Baidu’s App Store MoboMarket now Supports 5 Indian Languages
New Delhi, 16 March, 2016 – Leading Chinese-language search provider Baidu (NASDAQ: BIDU) today announced that its new version of MoboMarket will add Beta support for multiple Indian languages, including Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, and Urdu. MoboMarket added Hindi language support in November 2015, and the product team plans to include more Indian languages such as Telugu in the near future.
“Even though the tech industry in India is dominated by English, that language is just a tiny sliver when you consider India’s enormous linguistic diversity,” said Jeff Li, product director of MoboMarket. “Over 1,000 languages are spoken throughout India. Content in regional languages is in huge demand, and we’re going to keep working to bridge the language gap for more people,” he said. According to a 2001 census conducted by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu and Telugu make up a combined 33% of the speaking population of India. Hindi is spoken by over 41% of the population.
Baidu aims to build a robust ecosystem of mobile product and services in India. By localizing MoboMarket with support for a wide range of languages, more developers and users will be able to take part. “Getting the interface translated is just our first step,” said Li. “Our longer-term goal is to unite users and developers to make the online content in India more diverse and compelling,” he said.
Along with the built-in language updates, MoboMarket has also launched a campaign to crowd-source the translation of other languages directly through its users.
