Rewatching Doctor Who after the Sutekh reveal is hilarious. Currently on Series 8, episode 4 Listen where Doctor has sat on top of the TARDIS then was talking to himself, questions whether he's even talking to himself or someone, something else, and questions if anyone is ever really alone, or if there's a constant silent companion/passenger/shadow following them.
Clara: How long have you been traveling alone?
Doctor: Perhaps I never have
Baby girl, you have NO idea

Big finish making nine aromantic is the funniest and most perfect thing ever, because not even River is an exception. That incarnation has a big fat label on it saying 'BELONGS TO ROSE TYLER'

I think that the real fantasy of regeneration isn't living forever, it's being able to die without having to end.
It's the War Doctor being able to hope that after he dies, his next incarnation won't be a warrior anymore. It's Ten praying that when he does go, that new man who saunters away will be the Doctor in a way that Ten doesn't know how to anymore. It's Fifteen hoping against hope that maybe this time, maybe this life, he'll be able to avoid becoming a killer.
It's the ability to look back at your past and your regrets and your failures and say "I was a different person back then" and maybe, just maybe, genuinely believe it.

In terms of 15's angst over killing Sutehk, even though almost every Doctor has killed, I feel like every incarnation of the Doctor sees their regeneration as a clean slate to some degree. It's almost like a New Years' Resolution— the Doctor won't kill anyone in this life, they'll be better this time, they'll get to hold to their ideals now, they're all better, etc etc etc.
And every time they shed their first blood in a new body, it makes them just that little bit more afraid that death is impossible for them to escape.

Ya know- the more ridiculous a plot is in Doctor Who… the more unserious…. The more I’m gonna love it.
(Aliens of London, Unicorn and the Wasp, A Christmas Carol, Robots of Sherwood)
So when people complain about this new season with Space Babies
I’m just like… are you new here?! We’re all about camp and silly and fun! It can’t be all bad all the time!

HEY-
What if I told y’all that these two Doctors
Are more similar than these two Doctors
And I’m tired of pretending they’re not.
Nine was in so much pain, as is Fifteen- but both hid it behind blinding smiles. Throwing themselves in situation after situation, gotta keep moving, keep smiling… So much to see- so little time- or so they’d have you believe. Gotta keep moving. Passing thru. Helping out. Use the wrong verbs, kiss strangers… know the value of a good leather jacket.
They’re both just looking to be happy. To feel something other than all engulfing darkness. They both find the light in a brilliant, vibrant 19 year old blonde- though one relationship is romantic the other platonic.
Fourteen could only be more different from Ten by having a different face. He’s so broken and soft and outwardly affectionate and vocal about his feelings-
Ten was angry and cold and vindictive…
Fourteen is tired. Tired of pretending to be strong. Tired of the pain. He just wants to go home.
