This is kinda illustrative of why I don't like Legends. A lot of Legends was solely focused on power and spectacle: the best characters are the strongest, the best armies are the most powerful, and huge shows of force are the main focus in general. But a lot of the time as a result, the underlying philosophies kinda get put to the side to make those things happen. No one stops to ask "would the Jedi do this" or explore the ramifications of the jedi doing this, it's just a thing that future characters react to with a sentance and typically events like this are brought into existence so the writer can have a handwavey "well the jedi aren't perfect" example to call on. That's really all stuff like this exists to be, something future writers can call on as kind of a lazy criticism of the Jedi that doesn't need to be explored in much detail but allows the writer to justify whatever point they already wanted to make.
As an example, this event in new canon is implied largely to have gone differently. The Jedi Mandalorian wars happened cuz the Mandos started conquering Republic worlds. The Jedi eventually pushed them back to Mandalore - and the Mandos either nuked their own planet to kill some Jedi, or the surviving clans nuked their own planet to be the ones left in charge.
This doesn't position the Jedi as "weirdly fine with Genocide" which contradicts all their stated characterisation and says something about Mandalorian culture - particularly how many contemporary Mandos are proud that their people fought the jedi and ignore what the consequences were. It's something for writers to actually explore - not just adding a quick throwaway line to justify saying "the Jedi are bad actually."
This should really be brought up more
So, I’ve seen a lot of anti-Jedi and Pro-Jedi debate recently, and I want to highlight something that I don’t think gets brought up enough
It is stated in the essential guide to warfare that the reason Mandalore is a barren wasteland is that the Jedi and the Republic organized a preemptive attack on the Mandalorians, the Jedi-Republic strike force used so much orbital bombardment that Mandalore's surface turned into a toxic desert, and the people were forced to live in biodome cities, before this all the Mandalorians had done was grow stronger militarily and choose not to join the Galactic Republic, the reasoning the Jedi and Republic used is that because the Mandalorians fought the Republic and committed war crimes thousands of years ago, that they might do it again,
Imagine if China nuked Japan into oblivion because Japan was growing stronger, stating that because the Japanese attacked China decades ago, it was justified, that’s basically what the Republic and the Jedi did
Also the Jedi-Republic strike force’s tactics (or lack thereof) seem to be similar to the tactics Russia and Israel are currently employing
I am not an avant Jedi hater, I think the Jedi had good intentions for the most part, but the fact that the Jedi willingly took part in this shows that they were not infallible, and definitely have done bad things

As a HR fan and an FNV fan I can't help but see Vernestra being Aro/Ace and kicking ass as a Jedi as a parallel to "Bisexuals do 20% more damage to everyone" in FNV.
Getting another aroace rep out there while first post is doing well.
Did you guys know we're getting a canonically aroace character in live action Star Wars THIS SUMMER
Vernestra Rwoh from the High Republic era was confirmed to be being played by Rebecca Henderson in the new show Acolyte coming out this year.
Vernestra was confirmed aroace by her main writer Justina Ireland (writer of Dread Nation, a great read!) And the word aromantic was used in her section of the High Republic characters encyclopedia.
The High Republic in general is full of queer, women and non white characters, the authors are so nice and so is the fandom.
I was at Celebration when Vernestra was announced to be in live action and I cried so much I can't wait for more people to know her.
A little background info, Vernestra is the current known youngest Jedi to be knighted, she was 15!
Her former master Stellan Gios is one of the marshals of Starlight Beacon and for a little bonus rep is implied to be in love with two of his best friends (the authors do drop hints to this, it's not just fans).
Her next appearance is in Defy the Storm by Justina Ireland and Tessa Graton coming out next month, I can't wait to see what happens.
#does the narrative ever explicitly say being aroace makes her a better jedi? no#but like think about it#if the Jedi's whole thing is avoiding attachment#specifically attachment so intense it overrides your judgement in the way romantic feelings often do#there's a case to be made that aroace people make better jedi because that's not something they have to deal with#hell Verbestra still struggles#but she struggles specifically with being put in a leadership role as a jedi Knight when she's so young.#she cares immensely for her friends#but she doesn't have the issue a lot of jedi do of catching feelings and having to deal with that.#basically Vernestra is rad#although I'm not sure I like her being bald in Acolyte#it's an odd choice given how distinct her hair is in the novels

This isn't true. There are tonnes of LGBT characters in new canon. Hell arguably the most popular new canon character is Doctor Aphra and she's a lesbian. And everyone's gay in the high republic. I genuinely hate this bit so much cuz it's a fucking ai people are taking at face value.
