Week 4 Thoughts on Lost Gods by Gerald Brom

Chapter 66 - Prologue

Britney Smears: So must admit, the middle of the book dragged a bit for me but the ending made it worth it.

Hell No Kitty: I had similar feelings!

Bomb Weasley: What did everyone think of the last section?

Thot Pocket: Very beautiful. I almost cried at the end.

Bomb Weasley: I kinda wished they all died so they could be together in the after life. Also, on a total jerk of a point, isn’t it ironic that her family thought he was terrible and would ruin her life and then he kinda did?

Britney Smears: Truly, poor Trish. He did!!! I’m so happy for Chet and baby though. Trish is truly the one I feel bad for.

Bomb Weasley: It was a little dark for him to have to kill the body of his baby.

Britney Smears: Oh definitely.

Thot Pocket: I feel so fucking bad for all of them. So awful.

Hell No Kitty: I didn't even think about that, but he really did ruin her life.

Thot Pocket: Ana got the best ending imo.

Hell No Kitty: Her ending made me so happy.

Bomb Weasley: I loved that for her, too. And the Joshua in the epilogue, that made me almost tear up.

Thot Pocket: When she was thinking of drowning herself was so beautiful and the words Mary shared with her were the best in the whole book. I’m so glad Joshua got his mama 😭

Bomb Weasley: I was a little confused, could he have found her the whole time? The angel lied about about the key so I assumed he lied to him as well about leaving.

Thot Pocket: Fuck Senoy. Yep. Senoy is a selfish piece of shit and deserved worse than he got.

Britney Smears: I was so mad finding out Senoy kept him from his mom the whole time!

Bomb Weasley: Joshua and the rabbit need a vengeance side story.

Britney Smears: Also a big fan of Gavin. Him and Chet were badasses in the end.

Thot Pocket: Loved how that all played out with them working together. I was right about that, just wrong against who.

Britney Smears: Right! Didn’t you think they’d team up against coach or something?

Thot Pocket: Yep yep!

Bomb Weasley: I did like his change of character it was an interesting story.

Hell No Kitty: I feel like Chet meeting Gavin made him more of a badass.

Thot Pocket: He went from beta to SIGMA MALE. Can I say the thing that is just glaring weird to me is Jerome. Why would he help Lamia and where does bro come from? He just randomly manifests. I thought it was going to turn out Jerome was Senoy or something.

Britney Smears: True!! He was never explained.

Hell No Kitty: I really wanted to get hell in this book. They talked about it so much.

Britney Smears: Right!! They tied it back to the burning man nicely but what about hell lol.

Thot Pocket: Burning man was underwhelming on top of it.

Bomb Weasley: I felt the same.

Thot Pocket: I was hoping for some Dante Inferno the game with a demon battle and escape from hell.

Bomb Weasley: I wish he had to answer for the murder more.

Thot Pocket: Yeah I thought he was going to be running from Hell hounds the whole time, but then they just put a spell over it and it doesn’t matter the rest of the time.

Hell No Kitty: I feel like there was a few things like this in the book where they touched on stuff, could've gone deeper, but didn't to move the story along. Like the games.

Bomb Weasley: I hated that! But it would have been a super long book if he gave more background.

Thot Pocket: I think it should’ve been a series.

Bomb Weasley: That would have been fantastic.

Britney Smears: What was the purpose of the games to the plot again?

Thot Pocket: To honor the gods’ greatest warriors and excite their disciples.

Britney Smears: Oookay n Chet won, no longer a slave and that enabled him to do something after.

Thot Pocket: Yep yep! It gained him the good graces of Veles too.

Hell No Kitty: Oh man, I would love a book about the games.

Thot Pocket: Same. They seemed frightening. Tournament to the ultimate death with gods? Like Record of Ragnarok, but good.

Bomb Weasley: I loved and hated how Veles got healed.

Thot Pocket: Plot coins rather than armor.

Bomb Weasley: The book would have been better if he stayed dead. Or if he’d died.

Thot Pocket: But I was so excited when he started fucking up those guys. I was like “this is exactly why they ambushed him.” I was so happy to finally see god like powers like that.

Britney Smears: Red lady could’ve handled all the demons by herself lol.

Thot Pocket: I JUST THINK VELES IS CUTE AND I LIKE THE DEER BOI lol. I’m biased.

Bomb Weasley: He is! His portrait is my fav in the book. I just prefer sad outcomes in books.

Britney Smears: Veles living makes up for Chet ruining Trish’s life.

Thot Pocket: Well you got your child murder and death. I think that’s like 25 percent sad for the ending lol.

Bomb Weasley: I’ll take what I can get.

Hell No Kitty: Great point hahaha.

Thot Pocket: How fucked up was that ritual Lamia was doing?

Britney Smears: She’s the worst.

Bomb Weasley: It was, I was a little shocked by that tbh. And her running around in the baby.

Hell No Kitty: The way he described the scene was so good.

Bomb Weasley: It was a creepy image. I couldn’t put the book down.

Hell No Kitty: I appreciate how engaging the end was. I really liked the part where chet was being chased by Carlos and Co.

Thot Pocket: I was fucking loving it when he got his head on fire and then blown off.

Bomb Weasley: The whole gun fight was great. I still don’t get guns in the after life it was described so well.

Britney Smears: Did y’all get a western vibe?

Hell No Kitty: Oh yeah.

Britney Smears: Ok good not just me lol I enjoyed it too and normally I don’t like westerns

Thot Pocket: I’m wondering how they have the much of a functioning economy when things only come from with what people are buried with.

Britney Smears: That’s true but they like cut off their hands to pay for things right lol.

Bomb Weasley: That’s a good point. Why do they need anything? Like I get it passes the time. Maybe the author took a bunch of Adderall and wrote.

Chapters 51-65

Thot Pocket: So Senoy be fucking that grandma huh?

Britney Smears: Lol. Do y’all suspect that? I didn’t at all.

Thot Pocket: Not at all!

Hell No Kitty: Nooooo.

Thot Pocket: So it sounds like Gavin discovered their affair and killed him. Well, that’s Senoy’s perspective. I bet she tricked him into a living body to bound him there and made Gavin kill him.

Hell No Kitty: Senoy, was a full blown human before that right? I was a little confused about what he is.

Thot Pocket: He’s an angel. Specifically working under Gabriel. But she made him “living flesh.”

Hell No Kitty: Okay this makes more sense.

Bomb Weasley: It was at twist I wasn’t suspecting tbh.

Britney Smears: Did Gavin kill him when he was an angel first?

Thot Pocket: No. After Lamia changed him Gavin stabbed him. His body is rotting, too from the sound of it.

Bomb Weasley: I didn’t catch that part. It sounds like she’s ready to bail on him as soon as she can. Makes me think there’s gonna be another twist.

Britney Smears: For sure, something else to do with Senoy, Lamia, and Gavin.

Thot Pocket: She used his ass like a tampon and chucked him into the nearest sewer lmfao.

Hell No Kitty: Yeah that scene where she just walks away and the little demon kid basically says "she is going to leave you" was brutal.

Britney Smears: Grandma is like this seductress child killer.

Thot Pocket: Well, in her defense he hid her from god at first to torture her and then his stupid ass got seduced.

Britney Smears: I wonder if Gavin is still in love with her.

Thot Pocket: Yeah he doesn’t really think of her. I’m wondering if he’s gonna be the sympathetic victim because he was set up as the villain. Also I’m so fucking happy Velles is ALIVE lol.

Britney Smears: Ditto I was a little disappointed at how quickly they got him though. Like I thought he’d put up a bigger fight.

Thot Pocket: It makes sense as an assassination attempt. They don’t want to fight him. They know that’s stupid. Better to be dirty and kill them off guard.

Britney Smears: I’m also curious how y’all feel about them going after the gods.

Thot Pocket: I don’t like it honestly.

Hell No Kitty: I don't like them killing the gods. Their parts of the story are not super interesting and I dislike Carlos so much. This is silly but like what is even the point of them killing the gods? Do they just want power of purgatory?

Bomb Weasley: I think so, it’s like a perpetual power struggle there.

Thot Pocket: They want to free the souls from what they deem as oppression. They see believers as slaves. Which is HILARIOUS coming from the confederate colonel. It’s also wild to me that Carlos is much more ignorant and even calls him a communist lol.

Britney Smears: Ooof yea that conversation they had made me cringe lol.

Hell No Kitty: Which like Carlos isn't a white name? Why is he on that guy's side hahaha?

Thot Pocket: This book is anti Mexican haha. I agree with you Bomb, at least on Carlos’ position and that demon Lord. Why is the confederate like “I just wanna help?” Fuck out of here. I don’t like that he’s supposed to be “good intentioned.” Bro died wanting to OWN people lol.

Bomb Weasley: Kinda makes me think of us liberating oil.

Thot Pocket: It’s crazy babies go there cuz they’re incapable of believing shit lol.

Bomb Weasley: It’s super sad, they are all alone.

Thot Pocket: We’re you guys scared for the Red Lady at all?

Britney Smears: No she seems stronger than the other gods. To me at least.

Hell No Kitty: Is the red lady the one on the cover? I assumed so, so I wasn't too worried about her. That is the only reason I thought she would be okay, not much deep literary thought put into that.

Britney Smears: Same that’s literally the only reason I wasn’t worried about her either and was like eh she’s strong and can take care of herself lol.

Thot Pocket: See, I trust NOTHING.

Britney Smears: Bitch is on the cover!!

Thot Pocket: And the main character of psycho is murdered halfway! You never know lol. Spoilers for Psycho lmfao.

Hell No Kitty: I gotta say my favorite line from the book so far was "Heaven is full of sheep. Hell is full of those who actually shaped the world..."

Thot Pocket: LOVED IT. Any predictions?

Bomb Weasley: Yes. That is was a trick the whole time. And the angel wants to use the key to run into the sunset with the demon grandma.

Hell No Kitty: I love this.

Britney Smears: I feel like Chet and gavin will get along. Even though it may be a trick Chet could still save Trish.

Bomb Weasley: I think she dies. And the baby.

Hell No Kitty: I do think the baby dies.

Bomb Weasley: And gets dropped into the River.

Thot Pocket: Dear God that’s sad lol. What if him and his grandpa team up and do expendables in Lamia’s house?

Bomb Weasley: Plot twist. This was really just propaganda to make people baptize their babies.

Hell No Kitty: Totally possible.

Thot Pocket: I think the opposite. I think Trish and Baby live, but everything else goes BAD.

Bomb Weasley: Like how bad?

Thot Pocket: Like he doesn’t get her when he needs to and maybe she runs off with the baby or something. It keeps implying she’s about to leave.

Bomb Weasley: That would probably be the best outcome, she just leaves.

Britney Smears: So senoy just said that if Chet gets the key he could save Trish and baby, right? Not Trish baby and himself?

Thot Pocket: Yeah he’s dead as fuck. I don’t think there is any coming back. I don’t think the key is gonna help them anymore, I think it’s just Senoy manipulating him.

Bomb Weasley: Does he have Lilith blood?

Britney Smears: Yes!

Bomb Weasley: Maybe that will kinda help him and he’ll be stuck like the angel. I know that’s pretty obtuse.

Thot Pocket: I guess the reason I doubt that is if she could reanimate corpses why couldn’t she take over her dead daughter’s ya know? But I could also just be flat wrong. But I’m still intrigued regardless.

Bomb Weasley: Good point.

Britney Smears: Chet becomes an angel and him Trish and baby survive. And Lamia dies somehow. My prediction.

Hell No Kitty: I really want Trish to be the one to kill Lamia.

Britney Smears: That would be good.

Thot Pocket: Killing her ass with that nail board would be pretty metal.

Bomb Weasley: That would be a good ending.

Hell No Kitty: Maybe somehow Trish also dies while killing Lamia and then Ana somehow gets to take care of the baby. Fin. I just like Ana.

Thot Pocket: She’s awesome. I really like her character and I appreciate that Chet doesn’t abandon her. I also like that there’s no weird tensions. They’re just two people in the after life.

Bomb Weasley: Yes I love that too!

Week 2 Thoughts on Lost Gods by Gerald Brom

Chapters 26-50

Thot Pocket: Bomb, I think I am having a different vibe than you over Chet and I am so curious why we have different feelings about him.

Britney Smears: He’s become more interesting over time for sure.

Bomb Weasley: I feel like this story is set up to be a really high stakes mission and super important on all levels. And Chet is just some random dude who is like fumbling his way through. I think all the other characters are much better.

Hell No Kitty: What is your overall feeling about him Thot?

Thot Pocket: Personally I think the book sets up that Chet is kind of a bumbling fool because he can’t even stop being a drug dealer til Trish is pregnant. I think Senoy establishes that this is it for them and it is such a slim chance but it’s the only chance. He’s fumbling but surviving. I can’t imagine any human on that average level could handle that but because of his grandmother he is forced into it. I think him being so bad at it and still surviving is great because it’s like reading old Batman comics. Yes he will survive because he is expected to, but HOW will he. Also I think you’re right that all the other characters are interesting and I think that’s good! I think it makes us care about them the way Chet does.

Bomb Weasley: I’m not sure why but I just like super hate Chet lol.

Thot Pocket: I’ve noticed, because while I don’t love him, you seem like “booo you suck” lmfao

Bomb Weasley:

Britney Smears: I was def shocked when Ado and Coach got killed so quick. I liked them.

Thot Pocket: I think it’s supposed to make us see the reality of how unforgiving it is. Both of them have goals we want to see fulfilled and in the end it doesn’t matter. I’m just glad Ana didn’t die.

Bomb Weasley: I feel like they died way too quickly.

Britney Smears: Very much so, literally one after another and I was like are you kidding me.

Hell No Kitty: This was so shocking!

Bomb Weasley: I wish Coach got to beat up Chet a bit more just for the drama.

Hell No Kitty: Was fully expecting Coach to have more conflict w/ Chet.

Britney Smears: Same, they buddied up quick.

Thot Pocket: Yeah that was underwhelming with how fast Coach just gave up. I’m wondering if we’re going to see what happens to the souls that float into the air or if they’ll just stay stuck in the winds.

Britney Smears: I hope so.

Thot Pocket: What did you think of the champion games? I think Chet tossing the rings in an act of defiance is great.

Hell No Kitty: This made me like him more, especially because I found him so boring initially.

Bomb Weasley: I agree on the ring toss, but didn’t like the games in general. I wish they were either the main plot of the story or omitted all together. I wish the editors told the author “less is more.”

Thot Pocket: Really? I liked it because it was a gathering of gods and was in line with historical events of how emperors liked entertainment. I feel like it showed their age.

Bomb Weasley: Like I would have preferred it to be the main plot of story, like if he won he got the key back.

Britney Smears: I like the idea of Chet getting the key back after winning the games.

Hell No Kitty: I actually agree! I like it in theory for the reasons you say Thot, but it felt meh in execution. Almost somewhat unnecessary unless they bring it back throughout the story.

Thot Pocket: Like let’s get all these “tropes of hell” out the way?

Hell No Kitty: That’s exactly what it feels like.

Bomb Weasley: Like if it was the whole plot we could have had more world building and understanding of the rules and a more sympathetic villain.

Thot Pocket: See I thought of the champions as world building because they do it every year and more and more is dwindling. So without us having the full history we know that even their godly celebrations suffer because of Green coat work and fewer gods. I keep thinking a lot of Dante’s Inferno compared to this and I like how it just gives you the breaths of the other lives and worlds because they aren’t for long anyways with revolution around the corner.

Bomb Weasley: I just prefer Tolkien type books where the author describes everything in super detail. I’m also just mean to books.

Britney Smears: A quote from actual librarian haha. I like hearing diff opinions. Like I didn’t realize it till I read y’all’s messages and I’m like yea, the pacing is fast! The god blood being in the shape of a star was also cool.

Thot Pocket: We also still have to experience hell. There’s no way he doesn’t go there at least once before the end right?

Britney Smears: He must go to hell eventually.

Bomb Weasley: On a positive note, I did like the “mean while at the ranch” chapters with the crazy grandma. I wish we got a little more of that, but I get that that’s not really the journey.

Thot Pocket: Agreed! I feel like we’re only getting “Trish is sleeping and Trish is not sleeping” but it’s still interesting enough that I’m like “MORE”

Bomb Weasley: Maybe she’ll put up more of a fight in later chapters.

Britney Smears: I’m ready to have Gavin and Lamia explained more.

Bomb Weasley: Me, too.

Hell No Kitty: I really need it explained more haha.

Thot Pocket: I want them on Maury.

Bomb Weasley: Can you hit a ghost with a chair?

Thot Pocket: “The DNA test determined… that was a lie. You are in fact a Lilith” queue Lamia running back stage with a camera following her.

Britney Smears: Someone HAS to run backstage lmao. Like why are these bitches so messed up?

Bomb Weasley: I have a feeling it’s gonna be a little misogynistic.

Thot Pocket: Same. Women are evil etc etc. like the more it goes on the more I feel like we’re going to get justifications for Gavin and 0 for Lamia.

Bomb Weasley: I’m willing to hear her out lol.

Thot Pocket: Same. She could be like “he didn’t compliment my new hair cut” you know what, you go girl. I stan a queen.

Bomb Weasley: I bet Gavin kinda deserved it.

Thot Pocket: Oh yeah. Especially since he “saved her.” It automatically makes her indentured to him.

Bomb Weasley: Exactly. Maybe there will be a plot twist and there’s some Adam and Eve thing going on idk.

Thot Pocket: Maybe they’ll both suck balls and we just root for murder/suicide.

Week 1 Thoughts on Lost Gods by Gerald Brom

Prologue - Chapter 25.

Bomb Weasley: I do have a complaint. I wish they drew out the grandmother being the big bad a little more. Like maybe closer to 50-75 percent of the way through.

Britney Smears: That might still happen later!

Bomb Weasley: Did you guys get to the spider god?

Hell No Kitty: I did!

Britney Smears: Yea I really like Yevabog.

Bomb Weasley: I thought she like really spelled it out that the grandma was the real evil or one of them.

Hell No Kitty: Yeah did they call her a Lilith.

Thot Pocket: She’s a demon and her type is Lilith.

Bomb Weasley: I kinda hated that they demonized Lilith.

Britney Smears: Grandma is least favorite rn.

Thot Pocket: Oh for sure. I get this feeling we’re gonna sympathize with her a little by the end though. Since they say “since the beginning of time they try to bend Lilith to their whim”

Hell No Kitty: So if I'm getting this right, Chet was killed by Lamia who is an ancient demon. He gets to purgatory and is trying to find his grandpa Gavin?

Thot Pocket: Yes! Senoy said he lost to Gavin in battle and Gavin stole the key to heaven I believe. Which is why no one has punished or killed the grandmother for her demonic ways.

Britney Smears: That makes sense. I vaguely remember reading something about restoring order to life and death.

Hell No Kitty: Do Not Feed the Gods!

Thot Pocket: I love that it’s written everywhere.

Hell No Kitty: So these god are dying because people no longer follow/believe them?

Thot Pocket: That’s what I believe. They’re probably only as strong as people believe in them. Which is why the older ones are getting their asses beat.

Bomb Weasley: Makes sense, probably why Yevabog talked about being forgotten so much.

Hell No Kitty: I wonder how and if Yevabog will develop in the story or if she goes away quickly after ch25. I'm way more invested in her than Chet tbh.

Britney Smears: Ditto

Thot Pocket: Does anyone have predictions? I do. I think Gavin is gonna kill Coach.

Britney Smears: Why would Gavin kill Coach?

Thot Pocket: He feels humanity towards his ancestor. He has to convince himself to murder again simply after seeing a vision of Chet.

Britney Smears: Which is nuts cuz Gavin murdered his own kids. Unless there’s more to it than just gaining Lucifer’s favor or something.

Thot Pocket: I think so. I mean those two kids sound like demons. Maybe the kids vibes were just off lmfao.

Britney Smears: The vibe of the grandkids was just off lmao.

Bomb Weasley: I have a feeling it has something to do with the grandmother.

Britney Smears: That’s very possible.

Hello No Kitty: I feel the same. Also, Chet is a pretty bland character so far. Which is maybe good so we can focus in the way cooler stuff happening around him.

Thot Pocket: Ana is cool as fuck.

Hell No Kitty: I WAS GONNA SAY. Ana is a bad bitch.

Thot Pocket: I feel bad for Joshua. The little boy who was chilling in their play house that was killed by accident. He taught Chet how to go down.

Britney Smears: That makes sense, he’s not related to Lamia and that’s prolly why he’s the only one not following her and just hanging at the cemetery.

Bomb Weasley: Not gonna lie, the rabbit thing in the first chapter was super sad.

Thot Pocket: 100 percent.

Hello No Kitty: That was really sad.

Britney Smears: I was about to comfort y’all and say hey maybe they’ll run into the rabbit.

Bomb Weasley: There should be a Kill Bill style rabbit revenge sub plot.
