Callum, talking to Ethari post-reunion: So you have your husband back
Ethari: Yes, I do
Callum You must be... re-leafed he's okay
Ethari: ...Oh, yes. I must admit, when I saw him for the first time, I got quite a bit... sappy
Callum: I understand how you feel. When I saw Rayla after two years, I fir-got how much I loved seeing her face
Ethari: That’s sweet. How are you enjoying the Silvergrove, by the way? Have you tree-ted yourself to the bakery, yet?
Callum: Oh, the moonberry surprises are the best! I can see why they're so poplar
Ethari: I know, right? They're just the thing to spruce up your day
Callum: I tried some of the other pastries, but in comparison to the surprises, they were just oak-kay
Ethari: The surprises are delicious. When my husband and I were younger, I remember how he wood pine after those desserts as if they were the answer to life.
Callum: He's got good taste. Do you think you could convince him to branch out and try some tarts from Katolis?
Ethari: I'm not sure... but it wood-n't hurt to try
Runaan:

Softest Ruthari story? I had a bad day and I need some softness
Ethari and I hadn’t been courting for more than a week when I visited him in his workshop as a surprise. And by surprise, I mean that I hadn’t seen him in several hours and I missed him terribly. So I hopped in through a window and stealthed up through the rafters to watch him work for a while. I was far too eager to hop down and throw myself into his arms, and I thought if I just... watched him... for a bit, then I’d calm down and be able to keep myself together around him.
The trouble, little shadow, was that Ethari was busily working on a delicate bit of jewelry at the time. He was all focus and concentration, every bit of him drawn in toward his work. His head was tilted just so. His jaw was taut. His shoulders fixed. And his hands... Moon and shadow, Ethari’s hands are glorious. He turned his bright project over and worked at it so smoothly and swiftly that I could barely track it--and speed and dexterity are supposed to be my bailiwick!
I gulped so loudly, I thought Ethari heard me up in the rafters. And the longer I watched, the more entrancing he became, creating something out of nothing with the skill in his fingertips. Humming happily while he did it. I realized that there wasn’t going to be any keeping myself together, possibly ever again, around this elf.
So I surrendered to my feels and hopped down beside him. “Ethari, I--”
He startled so badly that he nearly fell off his box! But he didn’t drop his project. “Runaan, are you doing to be dropping in this literally from now on?” he asked, when he got his breath back.
“I... maybe?” I offered. Assassins often pop in on each other suddenly. We don’t even think twice about it. “If you want me to. I didn’t think--”
“No no, it’s fine. I’ll adapt,” Ethari chuckled. “Did you need something? From me, specifically?” he asked teasingly.
I leaned against his worktable and smiled down at him. “It’s entirely possible that I’m getting it right now,” I allowed.
“You big softie.” He slipped a hand into mine and squeezed it.
I looked down at his hand, with all its delicate skill, all the things he could make with it seeming to dance around it like tiny illusions. He could do anything with that strong, soft, talented hand, those precise fingers, the strength of his grip. And he was choosing to hold my hand instead.
I dropped to my knees beside him and looked up to meet his eyes, clutching his hand in mine atop my heart. “I am soft, Ethari. Soft for you, softer than I’ve ever been in my life. You... make me want to be soft. I... may need some assistance with that... It’s not my strong suit...”
With a broad smile, Ethari turned to face me fully and said, “I’m good with soft. And I’m happy to help. Do you want to sit with me?”
I smiled. “I love watching you work.”
He chuckled and held up his project, a pendant with five white gems in it. “I was thinking of something a little more involved than merely watching.”
My eyes widened. “Ethari... I’m very good with swords and bows, but this work is far too delicate for my hands.”
He raised a teasing eyebrow and smirked. “Then we’d best use mine too, hmm? Come, sit right here, and I’ll show you.” He scooted back on his box to make room for me.
So I stood up and took a seat directly in front of him, blushing an entirely normal amount, I assure you. Then he slipped his arms around me, took my hands with his, and handed me his pliers and the pendant he was fashioning. “Here, like this,” he murmured.
I let him move my hands with his expert knowledge, and I did my very best to focus on what he was explaining, but it was extremely difficult! His voice was soft against my ear, and his hands were warm and strong, and his chest pressed against my back, and his legs pressed comfortingly against mine. I was having trouble breathing normally and my poor cheeks were almost on fire. Surely he noticed that my palms got sweaty, but he didn’t say a thing about it.
He did start pressing soft kisses against my ear and my cheek when we’d finish certain little adjustments to the pendant, though, telling me I’d done a good job. I’d never wanted to be a craftsman so badly before--or at all, really--but Ethari’s presence is very persuasive!
When we finished the pendant, a couple of hours had gone by. Ethari hugged me tightly and asked briskly if I’d like to spend some time doing something special with him that night, and I just blurted, “We... we just did.”
He froze for a moment, and then he hugged me tighter than ever and buried his face against my hair. “Well done, Runaan. You did very well with your first softness lesson.”
I realized what he’d really been showing me, and how it had so easily climbed inside my heart, made a home, and responded back to him. I melted into that hug and relaxed more than I ever had with him. “Then you’re right, Ethari. We should celebrate with something special.”
And we did.

Runaan and Rayla return to the Silvergrove. Ethari, delighted, tackles Runaan on sight. Refusing to stop kissing his husband long enough to get any explanations, Ethari gets both hands under Runaan's too-tight crop top before Runaan, cheeks moonberry red, finally manages to blurt, "Rayla!" Ethari yelps and cracks his horns on the ceiling.
She's been right there the whole time, Ethari just couldn't see her because he ghosted her.
he maybe deserves it

It's time to write a post about my Runaan x Ethari. So, how do you like the idea of them being crybabies? It's so obvious. Two strong men with a difficult fate. One of them is an assassin who sacrifices everything for work, the other is a blacksmith who works hard to create murder weapons. Both must "be strong" because they are responsible. They can't rely on their feelings. They just have to do their job. And in such a heavy atmosphere, they found moments of solitude and just silently cried to each other. It was one of the most intimate and significant moments in their relationship. (If anything, my English is very bad, correct me (ಥ‿ಥ))

I think I should write in English, because tdp fans are mostly foreigners. I have a lot of sketches about Runaan/Etari and Leine/Tiadrin. I like to think about them, try to analyze them, although they showed us very little in the series. But I write fan fiction, collecting their image bit by bit, it's difficult, but very interesting. (It is a pity that tdp is not popular in Russia)

Finally I can post my art for The Dragon Prince zine! (russian) Making this postcard was so exciting and I really like the result. Hope you’ll enjoy this, too! (Also I will post my zine’s art-cover later) Decided to use Ethari’s concept-art’s hairstyle from original art-book, love this one much more than canon xD And look at Runaan, such an adore ~
Have some postcards with me now ~ Unfortunately, we couldn’t allow us to have foiled postcards because of non-repayment but we have felt ones

This is just my personal reading, but I think Ethari is a very interesting, and morally greyer, character than he's generally perceived as.
He's kinder than his husband, gentler, more open-minded; and he holds the exact same values that led Runaan to try and murder a child.
He knows what Runaan does is evil. He knows it takes a toll on him, on their marriage. But he believes it is necessary evil, and comforts Runaan with that when his husband shows the slightest flicker of self-awareness some doubts.
Runaan and Ethari once again manage to demonstrate they are deeply, movingly in love, while simultaneously revealing some pretty questionable cultural values. This isn't a knee-jerk “stand by your man,” either. It's not an accident they're so well-matched despite their different personalities; Ethari believes in this just as much as Runaan.
He made Runaan beautiful, deadly weapons Runaan used to kill other people. He Ghosted 3/4 of his family. He told his 15-year-old daughter her father's blood was on her hands, which f*cked her up at least as much as the Ghosting.
However, I don’t want to judge him too harshly. I’d only be so rational days after living with the knowledge that my husband was likely tortured to death, and I think this is just as much an indictment of Moonshadow society as it is of Ethari personally. I think he deeply regrets wronging his family, and I think he’ll be among the first of the Moonshadows to denounce Ghosting, publicly, to make amends for the times he did not. I think he’ll be among the first to realize the damage they have done, and urge them to make it right.
Ethari is kind and sweet and gentle. But his society is not, and does not encourage this, especially in dark times.

A take on Ruthari's reunion
They stood steps apart, staring at each other.
Ethari's lips parted, eyes unbelieving. Is it really...? "Runaan—"
Tears threaten to spill forth, but Runaan strains to hold them back, keeping his gaze open and level. His eyes sting. A minor punishment for what he has done. "I'm so sorry I made you wait."
Ethari's heart drops further with every word, sensing the waves of grief and regret from his beloved. Poised with a small smile, the words "It's okay" readied at his lips, hands eager to reach out, but Runaan's inhale made him wait.
"I made you a promise—"
"And you kept it. You came back." Ethari gave in and swept up to his husband, palm caressing his cheek. In the cold night, Runaan runs warm, a fireplace to rest by and soothe aching joints and heavy hearts after a long hard day. The days have been long, indeed. His eyes softened, tracing over his broken horn and quivering mouth. "You're here now, aren't you?"
At his gentle tone, Runaan folds and seeks solace in Ethari's shoulder, arms around him. Feeling lighter than before, Ethari rubs his cheek against Runaan's hair, anchoring him to himself.
"In the darkness, all I thought was you, my guiding moon," Runaan muttered.
Two years of desperate, solemn dreaming rushed back up as a sob in Ethari. In their arms, solid and warm and real and here, their tears finally fell with relief.

Runaan: What the...? What happened here?! Why are all the weapons on the floor?!
Ethari: Hmm? Oh, welcome home, dear. I'm just cleaning up.
Runaan: But why are ALL the weapons on the floor?
Ethari: They're on blankets.
Runaan: Ethari, love. But why ALL OF THEM? Couldn't you just take off some of them, clen up, and then put them back on the wall?
Ethari: It's easier to just dust off all the walls at once. After that, I will sharpen the swords, dangers and arrowheads. Also, I think it's time to replace the bowsrrings.
Runaan: But...there are hundreds of weapons here. It will take days to be done with everything.
Ethari: You're right. Catch!
Runaan: Huh?
Ethari: A grindstone. As the leader of the assassins you're more than capable of sharpening weapons.
Runaan: What?! But...
Ethari: Darling.
Runaan: 😑
Ethari: (gives Runaan a quick kiss on the cheek)
Runaan: 🥰
Ethari: 🤭 'Works every time.'
