Opinion Here’s how to get free Paxlovid as many times as you need it
When the public health emergency around covid-19 ended, vaccines and treatments became commercial products, meaning companies could charge for them as they do other pharmaceuticals. Paxlovid, the highly effective antiviral pill that can prevent covid from becoming severe, now has a list price of nearly $1,400 for a five-day treatment course.
Thanks to an innovative agreement between the Biden administration and the drug’s manufacturer, Pfizer, Americans can still access the medication free or at very low cost through a program called Paxcess. The problem is that too few people — including pharmacists — are aware of it.
I learned of Paxcess only after readers wrote that pharmacies were charging them hundreds of dollars — or even the full list price — to fill their Paxlovid prescription. This shouldn’t be happening. A representative from Pfizer, which runs the program, explained to me that patients on Medicare and Medicaid or who are uninsured should get free Paxlovid. They need to sign up by going to paxlovid.iassist.com or by calling 877-219-7225. “We wanted to make enrollment as easy and as quick as possible,” the representative said.
Indeed, the process is straightforward. I clicked through the web form myself, and there are only three sets of information required. Patients first enter their name, date of birth and address. They then input their prescriber’s name and address and select their insurance type.
All this should take less than five minutes and can be done at home or at the pharmacy. A physician or pharmacist can fill it out on behalf of the patient, too. Importantly, this form does not ask for medical history, proof of a positive coronavirus test, income verification, citizenship status or other potentially sensitive and time-consuming information.
But there is one key requirement people need to be aware of: Patients must have a prescription for Paxlovid to start the enrollment process. It is not possible to pre-enroll. (Though, in a sense, people on Medicare or Medicaid are already pre-enrolled.)
Once the questionnaire is complete, the website generates a voucher within seconds. People can print it or email it themselves, and then they can exchange it for a free course of Paxlovid at most pharmacies.
Pfizer’s representative tells me that more than 57,000 pharmacies are contracted to participate in this program, including major chain drugstores such as CVS and Walgreens and large retail chains such as Walmart, Kroger and Costco. For those unable to go in person, a mail-order option is available, too.
The program works a little differently for patients with commercial insurance. Some insurance plans already cover Paxlovid without a co-pay. Anyone who is told there will be a charge should sign up for Paxcess, which would further bring down their co-pay and might even cover the entire cost.
Several readers have attested that Paxcess’s process was fast and seamless. I was also glad to learn that there is basically no limit to the number of times someone could use it. A person who contracts the coronavirus three times in a year could access Paxlovid free or at low cost each time.
Unfortunately, readers informed me of one major glitch: Though the Paxcess voucher is honored when presented, some pharmacies are not offering the program proactively. As a result, many patients are still being charged high co-pays even if they could have gotten the medication at no cost.
This is incredibly frustrating. However, after interviewing multiple people involved in the process, including representatives of major pharmacy chains and Biden administration officials, I believe everyone is sincere in trying to make things right. As we saw in the early days of the coronavirus vaccine rollout, it’s hard to get a new program off the ground. Policies that look good on paper run into multiple barriers during implementation.
Those involved are actively identifying and addressing these problems. For instance, a Walgreens representative explained to me that in addition to educating pharmacists and pharmacy techs about the program, the company learned it also had to make system changes to account for a different workflow. Normally, when pharmacists process a prescription, they inform patients of the co-pay and dispense the medication. But with Paxlovid, the system needs to stop them if there is a co-pay, so they can prompt patients to sign up for Paxcess.
Here is where patients and consumers must take a proactive role. That might not feel fair; after all, if someone is ill, people expect that the system will work to help them. But that’s not our reality. While pharmacies work to fix their system glitches, patients need to be their own best advocates. That means signing up for Paxcess as soon as they receive a Paxlovid prescription and helping spread the word so that others can get the antiviral at little or no cost, too.

Help a Gazan family get to safety!
#111 on the gaza vetters list!
Muhammad and Mona are a young family with two beautiful daughters, 6 year old Iman and 5 year old Toleen. i have been keeping in contact with Mona on whatsapp for a while and the things she tells me are beyond horror. there are rumors of the border crossing opening soon, so they need funds for that (30,000$ for all 4 members of the family), but even more urgently - funds to just survive.
Iman and Toleen, these vibrant, fun-loving little girls are forced to go through WINTER in a thin, nylon tent with a torn roof! the outrageous prices of any clothes at all leave the sisters sharing a single pair of torn slippers. and somehow, their parents still need to buy food.
this campaign is stagnating, and the goal is a very achievable one. even if all of my followers donated 10 dollars, they would be set!
currently they need around a 1500$ for a new tent, and around 1000$ for winter clothes for the girls.
and if you want, please message Mona and Muhammad on their blog, @monamohammed3they feel extremely alone and forgotten by the world. if you could provide them with the support, monetary as well as moral, they would appreciate that immensely.

Have our cries reached you after a full year of war that it is still ongoing! 🚨🚨
Today, we have completed a full year of the fierce war on Gaza – Palestine – and the world is still waiting for all of us to die. 😔
We know that you are tired of the many messages and appeals that we send to you, but there is no other way, which I have to admit that it is not the ideal one, to conveying our plea and the suffering we are enduring.
To donate, click here 🙏
To donate paypal here
We can barely access the internet, so please try to help us financially or by spreading our story whenever you receive one of our pleas.🛜🛜🛜
Look at the picture, and you will understand how much we need your help and support during these difficult times we are going through.
Will we be able to resist the cold of winter in these clothes? what about our children? ???!! 👧👦😔
Winter is coming now, and we need essential requirements that we miss and lack because they cost money in these harsh conditions and the insane rise in prices.
Starting with:
*** Rehabilitating the tent we live in, which does not protect us from the cold weather at night and has deteriorated under the summer sun.
*** Winter clothes, especially for the children and all family members.
*** Winter blankets to protect against the cold night weather.
*** Medicine, especially for my daughter’s eye treatment and for my mother, who suffers from high blood pressure due to the poor living conditions.
How can you help us during these difficult times?
Even a small amount of support can help us, at least initially, to provide:
*** Winter clothes and blankets for the children.
*** A new tent that can protect us from rain and strong winds.
*** Some food supplies to help boost our immunity.
*** The chance to relocate when the borders open and secure a safe place for the family where medical care is available.
In this critical time, we need your support, even if it’s just a little, as it can provide for our basic needs and help us to at least survive and stay alive

Thank you for your generosity and compassionate hearts.❤️❤️🍉🍉

please think of the disabled people of gaza. please think of the diabetic people of gaza. please think of the neurodivergent people of gaza. please think of those whose lives are relying on medicine that has either stopped coming in due to the blockade, or is available in such scarcity that its price has skyrocketed.
we're approaching winter. on top of the challenge of securing waterproof tents and sufficiently warm clothing, some diabetic people in gaza have stopped taking their insulin as they can no longer afford it. those who are able to acquire it for now know every shot may be their last.

I am from Gaza , speaking to you from under death, a good opportunity for you to see death through the eyes of the victim, the sky is an orange flame that lights up the world as if it were day, the head is about to explode from the horror of what is heard from the explosions, the heart is about to jump out of its place and is close to the throat, the breath is tight: "And the hearts have reached the throats", the noise of women and children in the crowded street, they do not know where to go, as if it is a threshold of the horrors of the Day of Resurrection, the sky is filled with countless different types of planes, eyes are staring everywhere.
Every $5 helps keep me safe.

I'm writing a new post because old ones don't get reblogged as much - as if the need for donations goes away the moment post is 4 days old. And even if they do get reblogs, they don't translate to donations.
So. This is a new post for Falastin even though nothing changed. There's literally nothing new to tell, all the horrors are still the same as they were a week or a month ago and they still could die any moment. But saying everything once again:
24 family members
displaced more than 50 times
family has many martyrs, last one less than a month ago
need funds for daily essentials (food, water, medicine) and tent materials + clothing for the winter
have raffle for hand-made Palestinian thobe (!! link !!) - 6 days left as of posting this
There have been 9 donations in the last 24 hours, and 3 the 24 hours before. 125 and 17 usd raised respectively. THAT'S 3 USD PER PERSON FOR ONE DAY. The donations usually come up only when there's another martyr or another displacement so please make a pleasant surprise for Falastin's family (they haven't got one in more than a year) and donate if you can.
Preferred way - Gofundme (in SEK, 10 USD = 106 SEK):
PayPal (in USD):
Vetting info: #282 in El-Shab-Hussein and Nabulsi's spreadsheet [here], #957 in the Butterfly Project spreadsheet [here] Falastin's account: [link]

Hello my friend, how are you? Have you forgotten my cause? I am that person who was displaced from my city, without water, food, or hope. I am your neighbor, and my identity is confirmed by my ID. Please tell me you remember my identity; I am resisting here with my stones. The children will grow tomorrow, and we will drive away the strange dog. Long live my country despite their influence and armies. My feet are rooted in the soil, and I have not left my land. Should I sell my homeland to the wolves and buy my exile with it? I want your support, and I have all hope that we will live and that the flowers of my city will thrive from the rubble with your help. I do not know if my body will remain whole until evening or if I will go to heaven. I am tired here, my friend.

For more than a year this has been the news; everytime I am to write a post for a family, I go online and this is all I get to see. Nothing has changed in all this time. The occupation forces still bomb schools without any repercussions- they murder hundreds of people-they lay down seige-they allow no aid to pass through and terrified Gazans remain at a loss as to what to do and how to survive.
So nothing changed and nothing got better, rather things are worse now than they were in October 2023. As it stands, the whole of Gaza strip has been bombed multiple times, causing people to be displaced over and over again and lose precious resources like clothes and shoes. I cannot stress how important these resources are when children have to live out in the open sand and when people have to travel long miles to either get a connection or food. My friend Siraj Abudayeh ( @siraj2024z ) has been displaced SEVEN times and 2 months ago his extended family was displaced when the occupation forces closed in on their camp. With the onslaught of winter Siraj has to provide all of his family members with winter clothes and shoes that they have gradually lost when they were forced to flee. He has to provide for TWENTY FOUR people. Currently your donations have helped Siraj to rent a shelter for 10 of his most vulnerable family members but this means that 14 others, including Siraj himself is still living in tents! He is so cold and so are his sons. The nights are terrible and the tent which went through the wear and tear of the weather for the better part of this year, is barely any protection at all.
So please, please donate to Siraj. He wants nothing expensive, he has said that he will buy the cheapest winter clothes that are available in the market. But please we must raise at least 3k for Siraj ASAP. He has received no donations for over 12 hours and is currently stuck at $93,426 CAD
Vetting #219
Once again, please remember that things are going to be much more difficult during this winter of 2024. The hospitals have been bombed all throughout the Gaza strip, making it difficult to seek treatment for even basic ailments. There are barely any shelters left standing where people might be able to retire to, to escape the winter cold and fuel to warm up is a luxury. Also the IOF has routinely attacked camps, after which people were forced to leave behind precious life saving items which were then destroyed or looted. So do not let Siraj down now, when there is an uncertain time ahead.

‼️Please don’t skip taking a look 🍉🇵🇸
Welcome; I am Nasser Abu Akar, 23years old, a survivor of five wars, from the Gaza Strip - occupied Palestine, and this is my beautiful family, my father Muhammad (martyr), my mother Indira, my brothers Haitham, Fayez, Fayek, Ahmed and Farid and 4 sisters, a family full of love and peace, a family that is accustomed to living In her warm little house. We lived our lives in the Gaza Strip, a life full of wars and conflicts, a very harsh life, and we went through many painful and harsh experiences. We suffered from devastating wars, poverty and severe siege. But despite this, we maintained love in our hearts and purity in our souls, and until what happened during the past six months, we faced situations that cannot be described in words. Horrible things happened, situations that no one could bear. We lost our small house and had to move to another area (in the camps), leaving our dreams, our love, and even our lives in the rubble. What a difficult life we face now, a life full of pain, poverty and displacement. All our dreams have turned into only one dream, which is to survive, but deep in our hearts we still have a glimmer of hope. There is a small speck of light in the midst of this absolute darkness. We have survived (so far). My father did not survive. The occupation killed him, may God have mercy on him. But we believe in the saying, “I don’t want to live, I want to survive.” There is a big difference between them. In order to preserve our lives after my father’s death, we must leave the Gaza Strip to a safe place, a place that will restore to us the humanity we have lost, which means saving the lives of ten people, along with thousands of dreams and dreams. Ambitions. Our support means we're not just numbers breaking news, and we're not just anonymous victims. Our support means that ten lives will not be mentioned in the casualty statistics. This means that there are ten people who will not stand in line for long hours just to get a loaf of bread, or a bottle of water. . This support will save lives, and what is more important in the world than saving a life? With your support, we will carry in our hearts hope and beautiful memories of the house that was our home before the missile arrived. Your help means survival in this humanitarian crisis. Is there a crisis greater than the Gaza crisis? We trust that there is a hand that will extend to save us before we drown

mohammed iwais (verified) is still the sole provider for his 27 family members, including his siblings and their young kids. his sister is recovering from a quadcopter bullet wound; she's been able to start walking again, but this is still a very difficult time, especially since medicine is prohibitively expensive in gaza right now. on top of that, the whole family is bracing for the changing weather, which will add to their daily expenses just for survival.
they need roughly 7.3k USD to get to their next goal. remember to check the conversion rates! 10 USD = 103 SEK

Hello, I am Aya and I am reaching out to you with a heavy heart on behalf of my family of seven who are trapped in the devastating situation in Gaza 🍉 . They are urgently seeking evacuation to Egypt after enduring more than 370 days of displacement and hardship. I am seeking to help them urgently and provide them with the minimum requirements. I was displaced and managed to escape the horrors of war to Rafah, then we returned again to Khan Younis and were displaced more than once inside Khan Younis until we reached the beach..
Today I find myself in a situation I never expected. The conflict in Gaza has left my family in dire need of assistance. This war has taken our livelihoods and our factories and now we are struggling to survive.
But now our livelihood has been destroyed and all the hard work of the years has been lost in a short moment. We had a home that sheltered my family and my brothers, and the occupation destroyed our only shelter and the streets have become a bed for my brothers.
Every child of my siblings had a dream to fulfill
I feel ashamed to ask you to help me save my family's life. If someone donates $5 it will make a difference to us and help us because we need more. I don't want to lose my family, you are my only hope, you are our hope always and forever. I feel so embarrassed but I rubbed salt in my wound and I have no one else to save them but you. My family is calling you and asking for your help. They are in desperate need of rescue and safety. Your generosity will directly help save my family from death and rebuild our lives. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a huge difference. Reach out and make a meaningful impact for us because we need you. Donate on GoFundMe Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will directly help save my family's life and help my family who are still trapped in the Gaza Strip. ✓ Share this post and spread the word ⩥ Please 🙏🏻share this campaign with your friends, family and colleagues to help us reach our goal. Your support means everything to me, and I am so grateful for any help you can offer during this difficult time.

Help Ashraf's Family Find Safety
This Fundraiser is Vetted
My dear friends, I want to share the heartbreaking story of my friend Ashraf, who has recently lost everything due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The home he built, a sanctuary for his family, has been destroyed, leaving them in a desperate situation.
Ashraf and his wife are now raising their precious eight-month-old son, Yamane🧑🏻🍼who was born amidst the constant threat of violence. They dream of a brighter future, one filled with opportunities for Yamane that far exceed their own experiences. However, they have only raised €8,000 toward their goal of €20,000 for safe evacuation and rebuilding their lives.
We urgently need your help to secure this future. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant impact. Your support is not just a donation; it’s a lifeline that will help shape Yamane's world, allowing him to grow up in a place filled with hope and joy.
Please consider contributing and sharing this message with your network. Follow their journey On Tumbler : @ashraffamily . Together, we can make a difference and provide Ashraf’s family with the chance to find safety and a brighter tomorrow.
Thank you for your kindness and support. Let’s come together to help Ashraf and his family reach their goal and escape the shadows of war.
