Don't be surprised to find town officials who have been planted to push specific agendas forward. We found that out the hard way when an industrial business was trying to build a manufacturing facility in a residential zone (literally a neighborhood). They had put an individual into all of the relevant boards who was trying to prevent any regulations be put in place to protect the residents and allow the business to side step laws and permits that would be enforced at the municipal level.

Once this was brought forward to town hall, he immediately resigned from all positions. Unfortunately it got worse because now they spend their time overwhelming the town with faulty open meeting law complaints and suing all of the boards to intimidate these town officials into quitting (many of whom are volunteers that just want to help their community grow and thrive).

Instead of just overwhelming your town with requests (which may already be in strife from things you had no idea were happening), consider volunteering for boards/committees or other opportunities as well. It takes work to make things get better and a lot of towns desperately need help.

Make your voice heard, and if you can, lend them your hands as well.
