They beat the villain, the aliens run away, yada yada yada. Sailor Jupiter poses this question to M’Knight:
Which, honestly, is such a tease of an answer. Like, why can’t you? I mean, the girls all know each other - if you’re on their side, wouldn’t it make things easier. Ugh. Secret identities. They’re the worst.
“He reminds me of the one who broke my heart!” cue laugh track ... REI. What are you doing?
What are ANY of them doing??
nice split
The episode ends with Ail doing something nice for An, and both of them not understanding enough about earth culture, or Food, to know what to do with it. Reminds me of a certain centaur shaped alien who didn’t know how to handle his food, either... Ok, overall verdict? This episode is blegh. It’s subpar at best. It honestly was a slog to get through this, I am not going to lie. The story was played out, the animation was ok, the jokes were, well, barely there. The lightning dragon was cool and the few faces we got from Ami were GREAT, but honestly, if it wasn’t for the hinting at what energy the tree is producing and the background information we got on our alien duo, I’d almost say skip this one entirely. I’m going to rate Episode 9 of Sailor Moon R with a Eehhhhhh. Alright, that’s all for today, folks. Catch y’all next episode!

YOOOOOOOOO
YOOOOOOOOOO
Honestly while I’m still not super excited - the episode is still pretty average at best - this new power looks sick af. A dragon made out of lightning? How cool is that!?
Nice to see continuity at work, here. Continuing from the 6th episode of this season, Venus still has the power up.
Mars saved Moon and Mercury, with the added hilarity of Very Good Faces. I mean, just look at that!
Beautiful.

This segment honestly surprised me. Sailor Moon showed up, went through her stance and was about to finish her Line when Ail interrupted her
like, damn, son. Did you pour glow-sticks into your contacts??
Well, this is.... romantic? It’s hard to get a read on these two sometimes. An seems to be into it, anyway, and they do end up working together again to try and beat the Sailor Scouts. So all’s good in paradise, I guess.
Honestly, the monster this week seems pretty one-note... actually, this whole episode is pretty one note. Aside from a few good reaction images (here’s looking at you, Ami), nothing really stands out this episode.
Oh, look, they’re captured. How will they get out of thiiiiis?
Why it’s the Mysterious Arabian Knight Fellow! That’s how! Honestly this show is getting way too predictable.

I must go! My people need me! - Usagi, sometimes. Ami continues to have the best faces. I almost want a collage of them.
So Ail and Makoto are discussing what it means to show love to someone, or what it means to experience it. Makoto explains that love is something you give, while Ail understands it only as something you take. I’m not well versed enough on the subject, being still single at my age, but this show is probably going to go with Makoto’s view on this. Honestly, I think a balance is needed - if you give to much of yourself away, right at the start, that’s unhealthy. But you can’t just take and take, either. Only when you truly love and trust someone completely can you give your all.
Well, look who shooooowed up! Lil miss ‘date crasher’!

Usagi may be the laziest hero I’ve ever seen in a show. How do you sleep in late, sleep through class, and forget your homework? I mean, probably just a bad day, but seriously, girl. Get it together.
Uh, ok. Is Love the energy of the Doom Tree? Because that’s the vibe I’m getting from her. Or maybe they just don’t know what the actual energy is? I dunno, man. This is all sorts of whack.
Oh, she is PISSED. Ok, Ail, the smart thing would be to go with your ‘sister’ and ignore Makoto -
You utter buffoon.
That is not something you say while BLUSHING, MAKOTO.

Did Charles Shultz draw her face for a frame??
Honestly both expressions in the second panel are A+ reactions
Well, well, well. Look who’s been peeping on their ‘brother’. A jealous undercover girlfriend!
An and Makoto are going AT IT while Ail just started choking on his hot dog octopus. Also, side note, I actually got curious as to why I see those things so often in anime - and the first site that wasn’t a recipe blog had the headline “Why do Japanese people like wieners so much?” So my day has basically been made.
Also, side note - depriving a disguised alien of his air can uncover his identity.

So we’re back to Makoto and she is just jumping right onto it Hey, Sailor Jupiter??? You don’t ask someone their fetishes on the first date! It’s just bad taste.
Back in the computer lab, Ami is just chugging away at those keys. Doing RESEARCHY THINGS.

All these girl immediately forced their food onto him. RIP Ail’s stomach.
So after a long and hilariously paced scene, Ail escaped his suitors by jumping 50 feet up in the air onto the roof, where he now sits, brooding with his flute. What a drama king.
Nice shot. No, seriously, this is a good, low angle shot that isn’t revealing and is just a good use of the 2d camera. It’s great. What’s not great is Ail forgetting who Makoto is - although, to be fair, they’ve probably only interacted as Sailor Jupiter and Ail before this moment. It’s not like they know each other’s identities.
While Makoto is scoping out the man in question, Ami is using her Computer Skills to sniff out if Seijuro is M’Knight - which, of course, he isn’t. Still, let’s appreciate this screen, shall we? “Excellent Grades” - such a wonderful, quantifiable number you got there. “Quiet personality” I mean yeah mostly

While Usagi is looking for Mako to pilfer some lunch from, Ail is playing his flute in front of a crowd of adoring girls. An isn’t going to like that, my dude.
Ami, you’re a bright student, but you could not be more wrong. If this does not lead to Prime Comedy I will be mildly disappointed.
Makoto just declared she would find out if they were the same person and then gave Ami this hearty slap on the back. If I didn’t love my icon already, I might change it to this. It is perfection.

Time for a new episode of Sailor Moon! Last time, Rei sang a song and got a power up! What is in store for our sailor scouts this week!?
Ah, diving right into it, I see. Talking about Moonlight Knight, or as I like to call him, M’Knight. He’s got similar facial features to mamoru, but it can’t be him since they’ve been in the same room - I think. I’m pretty sure. Any way, Mamarou also claims to not remember any of his past self as the Prince, so that’s another clue against him. But if it’s not him, then who?
Well, golly gee. I wonder what the theme of this episode is going to be.

And so the episode ends with Rei singing a (better) version of her song, the girls sitting around a bonfire, and the day is saved once more.
Overall, a pretty standard episode that had a decent chuckle or two and a power upgrade. It was nice to see Rei in the spotlight of an episode for once. That said, nothing really stuck out to me to make me go back and watch this episode again. It’s not bad, but it’s just - I dunno. I kind of want to see a lot more of An and Ail, those two are my favorites right now.
Overall, I’d have to give this episode a Meh. score. It’s not bad, it’s not great, it’s just there.
Catch you next time, Sailors!

heck yeah
this looks metal
as hell
Fire Soul Bird, huh? So it can dodge around water based attacks? That’s a good upgrade, I’d say.
I really, really like this shot. It’s not that it’s visually creative, or tells a lot with so little, or anything like that - it’s just really well done. I can imagine that making backgrounds blurry and then bringing them into focus might be trickier in animation, so it’s cool to see the effort put into it.
So the show goes on, eh? Let’s wrap this episode up with a song from Rei!

So Rei’s Fire Soul cut the hair off from the girls so they can recover.
Well, I mean, it DID. You very clearly weakened it and saved the other girls. I know it might not be the incredible damage output you were hoping for, but it did very much still damage her.
Guess WHO!
That’s right, it’s M’Knight! Come to sorta save the day.
Wow his monologue is long today. It’s monolong.
And just like that, all of Rei’s hard work are throw in to the air and destroyed. Siren, you better run. Rei is going to kill you.
Is this New Power time?! Hell yeah we’ve been on a streak recently. I’m excited for Mars’!

I love it when they all transform together like this. Bring a great sense of unity to the team!
Jupiter/Mercury dual attack! I honestly can’t remember if we’ve seen that before or not. I’m going to assume we have. Still, it looks cool!
I can’t believe this week’s monster is Warfstache
That’s some legit cool coloring on the hair. Also, Rei? Hurry up? Maybe?
HAH I like that
Sailor Mars woud be the type to chastise instead of punish
ruh ro! It seems Mars is still tired from that attack, as there was a brief shot of her stepping back for a second with her eyes closed. Let’s hope it doesn’t affect her attack! D:

The question is, will she get to sing the whole song, or will the Monster of the Week decide to interrupt it?
Her dress is lovely!
I was going to post about how the crowd is going nuts for Rei, but then I paused it on this amazing face and I had to share that instead
Sorry, Rei, but it looks like your performance is going to be cut short!
A Siren, eh? Interesting choice... you’d think they’d save this monster for a more, I don’t know, water-based episode? Like at a pool or a beach? Not at a land-locked festival with no large bodies of water. I guess the Siren doesn’t need actual water to move in.
Case in point, she swims through the air. It’s one of those flying fish I read about in school!
Everyone was knocked out by these golden flakes falling from the siren - convenient for the girls - and now Rei is facing off against the monster alone. Better transform quick, everyone!
