Nanowrimo Fails

It’s the second day in December. I got very sick. I haven’t edited anything. A nano fail. Now I’m sitting on the couch watching Christmas movies. It is what I can do right now. I do feel better and will be going back to work soon. But, to think about my story is hard right now. I will work on it in time.

Wannabe Author Update

I’ve been having difficulty finding the motivation to write. I was so gung-ho when I took a few days of vacation but barely wrote or edited anything. Today, I just learned Author Mentor Match will be on for 2022, now I have a sense of urgency. My potential submission is not up to snuff. Write write write!

Book Club of One

The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking. Omg, loved this book. I actually don’t buy a lot of books but I have put this book on my to buy list. I want to hygge everyday, all day. I’ve dreamed about moving to a Danish country to be an expat. The book has recipes that I really want to try. Like mulled wine. Sounds yummy. I’m all about warm, coziness, and fire places. I bought soy candles. Hygge for all.

Part 2

I just returned and again borrowed Night Cirus. The story is getting better. I am now excited to get this book again. Currently I feel the story has too many characters. It maybe the length of time between reads but it is a bit difficult to keep track of all the characters.

Finally finished Maggie Steifvater’s The Raven Boys. This is the first book in the series. I did read some Goodread reviews and I agree, I could not get into the story. I completed the audiobook version, but I don’t think it was that. I just did not find the story interesting. It really seemed long. Maybe YA books aren’t for me.

Book Club of One

I finished Sally Rooney’s Normal People. Apparently normal people smoke and drink a lot. Have sex and think about sex a lot. Seems very normal to me. The sex part at least. I enjoyed the book. The dynamics between the main characters is great. Netflix or Hulu will be coming out with a movie. I saw the preview and it definitely won’t be true to the book. The author doesn’t describe the setting much but physical appearance she does. I’ll probably have mixed feelings about it.

Book Club of One

I finally finished Melissa de la Cruz’s second book in the Witches of East End series Serpent’s Kiss. I loved it. I liked how descriptive it is. Maybe a few run on sentences linked together with a comma. I still loved it. I can’t wait for the next book. I usually don’t lean toward YA books but I kind of want to try her Vampire books. I’ve always liked vampires, dark, and gothic type of books and other things. Here’s to a dark and stormy October ⛈ .

Wannabe Writer Update

Nano is slowly approaching. I’m at 9.4K+ of the third version of my story. Reading has really taken over my life. I have three books borrowed from the library. Two that I’m thoroughly engrossed in. The third is the Night Circus. I’d say that I’m on track to finish just on time to start Nano.

Book Club of One

Jo Koy’s Mixed Plate: Chronicles of an All- American Combo. Audiobook version. The comedian did his own audiobook just like Barack Obama. I already enjoy Jo Koy as a comedian. I wanted to learn more about him. Growing up as a half Filipino, half white person in America. Living on army bases and learning what it means to be American. His journey fighting to be a comedian was very motivating. In my head, I was like I’d probably quit. Do what his mother suggested, work at Nordstrom’s doing retail the rest of my life. But he stuck to it and he sacrificed for his dreams. It was motivating.

Book Club of One

Part 1

With all the glowing reviews, I decided to start the Night Circus. For me, I’d say either my a very slow reader or it’s a slow burn type of book. I’m excited for what comes next but as of right now it hasn’t engaged me. I have high hopes. I’ll probably need to borrow the ebook again from library. I read it on my photo which gives me 600+ pages. I’m at 200. It might take me so time.

Wannabe Writer Update

As I continue to write my book. I’m at just over 6000 words of my third version. I’ve learned writing sprints don’t work for me. When I’m in a creative mood, I just want to write. If I break, I might lose my streak. So I keep going. I’m trying to get my story to a place where I can participate in Nanowrimo this year. My daily goal is 500 words a day, everyday. My novel word count is 75k to 80k. I do take a break here and there to read or listen to audiobooks. I throughly endorse the star sticker or any sticker method. But I give myself a sticker just for the act of writing. I usually hit my 500 word goal. If I don’t, I’ll still give myself a star sticker because I made progress.

Book Club of One

Roshani Chokshi’s The Gilded Wolves. This was also an audio book because that was all they had at the library. I mostly listened to this while on my daily walks. It was narrated by two people, one female and one male. I’d assume it’s because it was a multi POV story. I enjoyed the female narration more than male. Setting and a lot of the dialogue had a French accent. I’d say there was a lot going on. Each persons POV was difficult to follow for me. It was multi ethnic book. I enjoyed that aspect of it. It had privilege and dark academia vibe.

Book Club of One

I finished Barack Obama’s Promised Land. Audiobook. Oh boy, it was long. I would not have been able to read that book. I borrowed the audiobook three times in order to complete it. I enjoyed most of it. Growing up in Hawaii at the start of the book. Life on the campaign trail. The middle got a little slow. Deep Horizon event in the gulf was interesting. I enjoyed the fact that he explains his perspective in regards to his actions. The thought process he went on. I feel he put emotions when things got tense. He kept moving forward.

Book Club of One.

I finished V.E. Schwabs, The Invisible Life of Addie Larue. Audiobook version. In retrospect, maybe I should have gotten the ebook. The book was slow moving. The way Addie tried to be seen and remembered was very intuitive. I did like the interaction between Addie and Luc. Those were a fun read, almost flirty at times. The way Schwab tied up the story at the end was the best part. It is not a book I’d purchase but still a book worth a read.

I have a full time job. Recently, my office is now 100% work from home. Now I have absolutely no interactions with people. I haven’t interacted with people since last year. Honestly, I think it is still scary out in the world. Since I’ve been reading more, I’ve been looking for a Book Club via zoom. I haven’t found one. I’m going to make a one party Book Club. Yeah, sad but that’s okay.

I loved Melissa de la Cruz Witches of East End. I loved it. I watched the Lifetime series and started reading the series. I’m new to this one person Book Club. More books to come.

I purchased ProwritingAid last year. I felt it was a deal. I did it, I don’t regret it. I’m writing in it to help me with grammar and punctuation. It’s working out so far.
