The problems we are seeing now stem from a fundamental misunderstanding of left and right. They aren’t terms that are just relativistic, they reflect political ideology in relation to the status quo. In simple terms, the right idealizes the past, while the left idealizes the future. That’s why the furthest right people are fascists; they create a mythologized golden age where everything was better, and justify any means to reclaim it, especially when it didn’t even exist.

The furthest left people fully reject the status quo, typically tending towards anarchism, socialism, communism, etc. because they demand a complete reinvention of society, which will ideally solve all the current problems.

My point being that in this metric, the US currently has a moderate right party, and a far right party. Even if we are generous and call Democrat leadership centrist (maintaining the status quo), the effect is that we either can continue the way things are, or regress, which will always lead to incremental regression.

In all honesty, moderate conservatism isn’t all that big a problem, so long as it is counterbalanced with progressivism, which we haven’t had for decades.

Y’know, I think people misread the story of Ragnarok a lot.

Odin and the Aesir were fine using Loki to solve all their problems, up until one of his tricks got one of their own killed.

And let’s me clear, they were more than lying to kill, cheat, and steal, so long as it furthered their own ends. They were not righteous rulers, they were just the most powerful.

So when Baldur dies, it’s less “how could someone do this?!” And more “someone defied us”. So, when they find out it was Loki, they tie him to a boulder with his entrails and have a serpent dripping venom into his eyes, a fair and just punishment I’m sure you’ll agree.

But they don’t stop there. Hel is cast into the underworld, and Jormungandr to the sea, and they keep Fenrir until he is too powerful to control. Only then do they trick and bind him.

So, when Ragnarok comes and they fight back, I don’t think it’s so much a tragedy or Great War like it’s often portrayed so much as a cosmic reckoning with irresponsible rule.

I find Hel particularly compelling in all this. Odin and Freyja have Valhalla and Folkvangr respectively to rule over, populated with the dead that died in battle. They take the warriors, kings, poets, or those that otherwise died honorably. But death is not an honorable thing. It takes us when it can and does not let go. And most of us will not be going there, we will go to Helheimr, the land Hel rules over. She takes the lost and forgotten that have been abandoned by the Aesir by no fault of their own, and welcomes them to her kingdom as dower as it may be. So when she goes to Ragnarok, her legions are not the great warriors of old, they are the common man, rising once more to take down a tyrant.

It’s a bit awe inspiring.

To know there is someone looking out for the damned.

To know that together, we can kill gods.

What I’m wrestling with is that we are in 1930s Germany. We can possibly avert the worst of it, but we are going down that road. My hope is that many retired and active armed forces side with the people in order to enact a coup against this government. Because what we have to recognize is that it is a new nation after this regardless. We are either Post-Nazi, or post French Revolution, but we cannot continue as the same old Americans once this is concluded

I’ll second this. There is a major difference between her wishing her internal masculine self had a body that matched, and her wishing that Femininity wasn’t a barrier to her dream. Now, I will also say that we have little enough from her that I think either interpretation is valid, but unless it is revealed that she is alive (I’m pretty sure we saw a body), it’s unlikely that her internal self will be expanded on.

unpopular opinion: Kuina from One Piece isn’t trans. Lots of people think and are sure she is, just because she’s sad she’s a woman. But being trans would ruin her whole character. She doesn’t hate being a woman because she feels like a man, she’s un pleased with being a woman because of standards. She wants to be the strongest, but she’s so frustrated that woman are anatomically weaker than men because she thinks she’s anatomically incapable of being the strongest. She thinks she’s cursed to be weak. She doesn’t feel like a man, she’s upset because of the limits her gender has.

So, funny story,

When I was young, I was kinda a toxic little shit, and that included being kinda homophobic. Really regret it, probably came from internalized homophobia and fear of judgement, not the point.

I had this friend, who was about as stereotypical tall nerd as you could get, and I always got weird feelings that made me wonder if I was gay or something.

Eventually let it go, I’m mostly gynophilic with some bi-curiosity, but definitely not just gay.

Lo and behold, she transitioned a year or two ago, and everything makes sense.

One really weird thing transphobic cis women will say is something to the effect of “I was a tomboy, thank god it was before the transgender craze. They would made me transition.” Like, probably not, girl. As you are a cis woman who has never communicated any form of gender dysphoria. It makes it really obvious that they think being transgender is just conforming to different gender roles. There is an ocean between a little girl who likes traditionally masculine fashion and has traditionally masculine interests and a child that is transgender. They are not a slippery slope. They don’t push you down the slide of transgenderism if you cut your hair short when you’re 12.

There are so many trans men who were never tomboys, who were the picture of the ‘perfect little girl’ and genuinely enjoyed traditionally feminine hobbies and expressing themselves in ways associated with femininity. It confuses and angers cis people when they come out as trans because they only see gender as a role to perform and not an identity. If you’re truly a woman, you’re generally not susceptible to randomly turning into a man. If you’re truly a man, you’re generally not susceptible to randomly turning into a woman.

Actor Jonathan Joss was just murdered for being gay and married to a trans man. On the first day of pride 2025. He was best known for playing John Redcorn on King of the Hill.

I had no idea he was gay but he was married to a man named Tristan Kern de Gonzales (on valentines day 2025!)

They lived in San Antonio Texas where his family is from and he grew up. He was 59.

In Janurary 2025 his home was burned down which made news. It killed some of his beloved dogs. He didnt elaborate beyond he believed it was arson (gofundme is still up and i suggest donating to help his funeral costs and his husband
