October 9: WGA ratification
[ID: 3 tweets from WGA West @/wgawest that say:
"99% of WGA members have voted in favor of ratifying the 2023 MBA.
We would not have been able to achieve this industry-changing contract without WGA Chief Negotiator Ellen Stutzman, Negotiating Committee Co-Chairs Chris Keyser and David A. Goodman, and the entire WGA Negotiating Committee.
As well as strike captains, lot coordinators, and the staff that supported every part of the negotiation and strike action. Thank you. #WGAStrong" end ID]

Adam Conover: So the writers strike is finally over, and I'm so happy to tell you that...
Full transcript of text on images below the cut!
And we changed not just our industry for ourselves, but for every writer who comes after us. And I amâŚso proud of us.Â
Thank you to every writer who made this victory happen, and thank you, thank you, to every fellow worker who stood with us.Â
We are gonna stand with you as well because what this proves is that when workers stand together, we win.Â
And nowâŚLETâS GET BACK TO WRITING.
[video ID: Adam Conover summarizes the terms of the 2023 WGA Contract that ended a 148-day strike.
So the writers strike is finally over, and I'm so happy to tell you that...WE FUCKING WON.
These are all things that they swore to us five months ago they would never give us in a million years. But we went on strike and we hung together until they were forced to come to the table and meet our demands.Â
Contract Summary
This is the contract that we just spent the last 148 days fighting for. And lemme tell you whatâs in it:Â
a guarantee that a minimum number of writers be hired on every show,Â
comedy-variety writers like me be paid [equally on streaming and TV],
provisions that mean better pay for screenwriters,Â
better pension and health for writing teams,Â
script fees for staff writers for the first time,Â
and protections against AI.
AI Protections
AI canât write scripts, edit scripts, or undermine our rights and credits.
Success-Based Residuals
And we won a success-based residual! So for the first time, when more people watch a movie or TV show on streaming, the writer that created it will make more money, too.
---
And we changed not just our industry for ourselves, but for every writer who comes after us.
[/end video ID]

discord as a filehost will no longer be possible by the end of the year
EDIT: AS IN LINKING TO STUFF ISN'T GOING TO WORK. YOU CAN'T USE IT TO PERMANENTLY EMBED IMAGES IN AO3 OR TOYHOUSE OR WHAT HAVE YOU. THE LINKS THEMSELVES WILL EXPIRE AFTER 24 HOURS, BUT YOUR FILES AREN'T GOING TO BE DELETED FROM YOUR SERVERS
if you haven't noticed, copying a link for a file now appends special parameters to the end. these are a request signature, which indicates a specific request for that file. this request will expires after a few hours, so files will no longer be permanently available through a specific url.
while they are not currently necessary to view the file, they will be by the end of the year, assuming nothing changes.
please check that any websites you rely on are not hosting files through cdn.discordapp.com, and if they are, please archive those files through the IA using web.archive.org/save
thank you for your time

26 September: thread by WGA member David Slack
Twitter thread by David Slack @/slack2thefuture:
"As WGA leaders meet today to finalize our deal, we begin a new era for writers â and for labor in our industry. But we also begin to face the final and most insidious form of unionbusting propaganda: a years-long effort to sell the lie that our strike was not worth it.
Over the coming days, months, and years, the studios, streamers, and their surrogates will take every opportunity to undermine what we have won together. They will seize on the inevitable consessions and compromises made by our NegCom as proof that we âfailed.â
They will urge us to overlook all that we won through hard work and unwavering solidarity. They will claim it wasnât enough, that we should have gotten X instead of Y, that we lost more by striking than we gained in this new contract. And they will be wrong.
They will tell us that the strike was unnecessary, it was a waste of our time and our savings, that our agents or managers or lawyers could have gotten us everything we won through individual negotiations without anyone having to walk a picket line. Well⌠then why didnât they?
As hard as it is to believe right now, these lies can work. Theyâve worked before. During our 2017 strike authorization vote, it was shocking to discover how many members believed we lost the â07-08 strike, in which we went on strike for the internet â and won the internet.
This didnât happen by accident. It was the result of years of whispering by studios and anti-union allies. And they donât just do it because theyâre bitter about losing. They push the lie that we used our power and lost because they hope to stop us from using our power to win.
Our strike was necessary because, in our individual negotiations, our employers consistently refused to acknowledge our right and reasonable demands. Because the profound changes we needed could only be won through the unique and overwhelming power of collective bargaining.
Our strike was necessary because our employers made it necessary by driving our income down 23% in 10 years. Because they refused to address free work in features, streaming coverage in comedy-variety, the abuses of mini-rooms and the threat of AI until we withheld our labor
Our strike was necessary. Our strike was effective. Our strike is a victory. If anyone tries to tell you otherwise, itâs âcause they never want to see us stand up for ourselves again. Donât believe it. We won this fight. Weâre the WGA, and when we fight, we win. #WGAStrong"

That's all. I just thought it was cute. I don't know why these latest episodes are pushing a dynamic between them but it's cute so I don't mind.
