Thyroid Treatment In Ayurveda
The thyroid gland is an endocrine gland which is situated just below the thyroid cartilage in one’s neck area. It is the responsibility of the thyroid gland to regulate the efficiency of the functioning of various body parts and organs. Due to the stressful lifestyle and various other reasons, it is common to spot people suffering from Hypothyroidism – a medical condition in which the thyroid gland starts functioning in an abnormal manner. It is characterized by the dysfunctioning of the thyroid gland wherein the gland does not produce enough amount of the thyroid hormones like thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) which are responsible for the normal functioning of various body organs. Therefore, thyroidism in human beings can be considered as a serious health concern and must be diagnosed and treated properly from quite an early stage.
Ayurveda has an effective treatment for Hypothyroidism. According to modern Ayurvedic science, the root cause of the dysfunctioning of the thyroid gland which results in hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism lies in the disequilibrium of the “doshas” as with any nija rogas (diseases caused due to internal issues). According to Ayurveda, thyroid disease is the result of lifestyle and diet discrepancies which is known to accelerate the doshic imbalance. Ayurveda has classified thyroid disease as “yapya or asadhya” disease – something which cannot be cured.
The therapy for the treatment or control of hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism in Ayurveda follows a supportive and holistic approach wherein it aims to correct the imbalance created in the doshas. Ayurveda includes the amalgamation of various forms of herbal and organic medicines which are responsible for creating a balance in the doshas. These ayurvedic medicines are also responsible for promoting the thyroid normal functioning and in regulating the dietary and lifestyle conditions.
Conclusion:
Ayurveda has an effective treatment to bring a control and balance in the dysfunctioning of the thyroid gland leading to hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. As each human being is different by means of the constitution, genetics, and metabolism; the individual response to Ayurvedic treatment and medication might vary in idiosyncratic ways.
