Miracle
The past 2 weeks have been the longest of my life... I didn't expect to have my boyfriend in the hospital through all of my favorite holidays. All I could think about was "what if he doesn't wake up? I wouldn't be able to live without him." That morning of the 23rd he ended up in the hospital I didn't tell him I loved him nor did I talk to him since I was to busy buying xmas gifts. One day I was planning on what to make for xmas dinner dessert the next I was trying to accept the fact he might not wake up for a month or more. My life was a complete roller coaster, the only joy I had was that his seizures stopped... you can only imagine the mess I was. After so much praying the doctors felt as if they can lower the sedation medication. The doctors said it would take possibly 24 hours for the medication to leave his body so he can actually be responsive or even a few days... 2 minutes later he opened his eyes and he could follow commands like squeezing the doctors hand. Mind you he still had the ventilator down his throat. They said it might take him a few days to try to breathe on his own as well... but a few minutes later he was doing it on his own. They removed the ventilator and he was trying to talk but couldn't. The doctors said we must prepare for memory loss, or possible brain damage. At that moment my life was once again a complete mess. About 12 hours later he started to talk... he also recognized me & even smiled at me. I stepped out for 30 minutes to get lunch when I got back he didn't remember I was there with him... I started bombarding him with questions like "how can you not remember I was here 30 min ago?" "you told me to take off my glasses remember that?" he couldn't remember any of it :(... the doctors said if everything progresses well he will get his memory back. finally the next day he remembered me being at the hospital. it was the happiest day of my life. He still couldn't move his hand right or stand on his own. The doctors were very surprised to see the progression he was making by the hour. This made me happy because I knew he was fighting to get better. The doctors concluded he developed viral meningitis from the flu which was proven by the spinal tap that was done on him when he went to the hospital. All of this could've been prevented if he would've controlled his fever or gone to the doctors... Normally your body can fight this off on your own but when your body can't it can be deathly. My boyfriend got lucky and thanks to all the prayers he continues to improve with physical therapy and constant monitoring. To me, him getting better was a MIRACLE.
