Applications for the YSEALI SEA Camp in Boracay now open!
Are you a true-blue seatizen capable of making a positive conservation impact? Save Philippine Seas (SPS), in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Manila, is pleased to announce that applications for the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Sea and Earth Advocates (SEA) Camp in Boracay Island, Aklan are now open!Â
The YSEALI SEA Camp is seeking the best and brightest Filipino youth leaders to create and implement solutions that address environmental issues threatening the coastal and marine resources of Boracay. It will bring together 25 youth leaders from all over the Philippines, ages 18-23, from June 6 to 12, 2016. All expenses (e.g., transportation, accommodations, materials) will be covered by the project.Â
The YSEALI SEA Camp is one of the U.S. Governmentâs programs to promote ocean conservation, which is a priority of the U.S. Government.Â
â[T]he question isnât whether the ocean matters, and it isnât whether the ocean is at risk. The real question is whether we, all of us on this planet, are going to adjust our ways in order to protect the ocean for generations to come,â said Secretary of State John Kerry during the 2015 Our Ocean Conference held in Chile. âThe real question is one of leadership and stewardship and responsibility.âÂ
âBoracay presents some of the biggest challenges that conservationists face, and we believe in the potential of the Filipino youth to come up with trailblazing and feasible solutions,â added SEA Camp Founder and Project Director, Anna Oposa.Â
