"... Uh-huh." Was he convinced? Not in the slight bit. Nilay was soft-hearted and sweet, but Hero also knows that she has quite a fire deep inside her and was open to others. So seeing her be so damn timid and nearly shaking like a little chihuahua? Yeah, no. There's gotta more to this story. Drinking his soda, he could only nod slowly. An eyebrow quirked up while he eyed the lawyer before him. "Do you, perchance, might know why...? I've gotten to know her over the years and I'll admit, I've seen her be nervous, but not that nervous." Gesturing to the rum and coke she was sipping, he soon continued on, "Is that good or are you thinking tequila again?" G-d, he was annoying and he knows it. Hence why he was trying to use it to his advantage.
📖@isabelguzman
Isabel nods her head at him. "Good," she murmurs as she reaches out to grab the glass he sat down in front of her. She pulls it close to her and freezes at the mention of Nilay. Her eyes raise up to look at the other in front of her, her head tilting to the side. She didn't particularly enjoy discussing her private life especially the part that is the Bailey woman. She would much rather move forward and focus her energy and time on something that will actually go somewhere. Plus she's not as bitter as she used to be, maybe if Hero would have brought this up before hand but right now. She was less than interested. "I'm not sure why she was awkward around me." She shrugs her shoulders. "It's always been like that between us."

Even without the whole "Nilay could possibly no longer exist on this planet if she has another pregnancy (though, then again, the woman's like a cat with nine lives)" aspect of things, this was a rough conversation with anyone. It was a touchy subject. But... Admittedly, it was hard not to imagine Eli and Nilay (or, "Nili", as they like to call them behind their backs) getting to have anything and everything they wanted and dream of. While they'd been blindsided by their own parents, they know that these two aren't their parents. That their own daughters were going to grow up watching them fall more in love with each other every day. And, really, who could ask for more?
Nodding, Hero smiled softly. "Makes sense," they said. Obviously, they wondered if there was more to Eli's words. They seemed calculated... In a sort of slobby, on-the-spot way. But, the bar owner understood what he was saying. "But, hey, that doesn't really matter, now does it? You and Nilay being together, going through life together, being happy and in love together; That's what matters. Hattie and Rhia are lucky to have you both as their mom and dad."
If there was anything that could make an awkward conversation become better, it was changing it to talk about their kids. Mars and the twins absolutely adored Hattie and Rhia, and it made Hero happy knowing that the girls also adored the trio. Though, in a way, it did make them a little wistful to talk about them and then remembering how old they were. G-d, were their own kids that young before? "Is she taller than Nilay yet?" they joked. Hearing about Rhia's age caused a playful groan to escape. "Ah, yes... The terrible twos. Do not miss that for a single second. But yeah, that'd be great! Hopefully before November; Mars is going to start working part-time at Walmart after his birthday, so he might be busy then. Got anything planned for your birthday? The big... What was it again?... One hundred, yeah?"
📖@elijahfalvey
It was clear that Elijah was taken aback by the question, even though all signs pointed to the fact that he should have seen it coming; a choked sound emerged from his throat and he coughed, loud and heavy, to cover it up. He turned away from Avery as he collected himself, shaking his head once the wheels of his chair angled him to face them once more. “No. We haven’t,” he answered, still feeling the unexpected scratch as each word slipped out. He should have known better than to leave that avenue of conversation open, even if only ever so slightly, but now that they were speaking — relaying their own opinion — he knew he’d feel guilty if he brushed them off as quickly again.
“I — I’m comfortable. Personally. I —,” I don’t know what she thinks, he wanted to say, but he refrained at the last second, biting his tongue, “Now isn’t the right time,” he said instead. “We — y’know — we both have a lot on our plate, we’re both busy, the girls are handfuls enough, it’s … just not something on the mind.”
And that was about as much as he was willing to divulge, pointedly ignoring the ‘wifey’ comment lest he ring more alarm bells in his friend’s head. He was never equipped with a wonderful poker face, so he unfortunately had to pick and choose his battles in moments like these. Thankfully, the wellbeing of Avery’s kids distracted him enough to stop thinking about it, and he hummed in interest. “Hattie’s great, picked up a lot of reading over the summer, growing like a weed, the whole bit,” he explained, “Rhia’s two. I think that says enough.” Despite himself, he breathed something akin to laughter, “We’ll have to set something up for them soon.”

Now, Avery wasn't trying to intentionally be a menace. Shocking, she knows. However, today was family day. Which meant being on parent mode and dialing back her gremlin qualities by ten times so that she can be somewhat of a good influence for her kids. Fortunately for her, they love her greatly. They know who she is and that, as much as she may try, she wasn't perfect and they love that about her so much.
However... She sometimes underestimates just how much of an influence her gremlin side was on them as well. Such as now, standing within the front entrance of aBLUESment Arcade, right behind Sebastian attempting to gain entry after him and CJ "allegedly" wrecking the bowling alley before it was renovated into the new arcade.
As he turned to look at her, she gave the young tattoo artist a look. Not even able to say a word before her twins happily piped in: 'Hi, Uncle Seb!' Even Mars gave a little way before returning to his phone to text... Well, Avery didn't know who he was texting. And right now, she was focusing on the man before her. Chuckling softly and shrugging, deadpanning, "Oops."
📖@sebastianvora
WHERE / aBLUEsment Arcade.
WHEN / Pick a time, any time!
WITH / Cap at 3 ( 0 / 3: @bluestarters )
“Dude, I look hot as hell with this mustache — the fuck you mean I can’t come in?” An incredulous finger pointed at the hairy caterpillar nestled precariously on Sebastian’s face, ready to detach comically at any moment — otherwise known as his and CJ’s last ditch effort in ever being allowed in the Blue Harbor arcade again. For fuck’s sake, you go bowling one time … he thought, completely ignorant to the fact that it was less about the ‘bowling’ and more about ‘destroying the alley enough to where it needed hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of repair and refurbishment’. A problem he refused to take on as his own, personally. And one he didn’t think he should be banned for life for, at that, his and his roommate’s faces plastered in print behind the ticket kiosk, a giant ‘DO NOT ADMIT’ in red written above their heads. “This is such bullshit, man, I’m clearly not that guy!” The employee who’d been blocking the fighter’s entrance, clearly, was not convinced. Aside from the mustache, Sebastian didn't really put much effort in trying to look different anyway, figuring that the singular small detail would be enough. “Right? Right?! Hey — dude, come on.” At that, Sebastian feverously searched around him, tapping the first person on the shoulder that he could see and accosting them with his dilemma. “Real quick,” he began, drawing their attention to the poster of himself at a distance. “Do you agree or do you agree that I'm not that guy?”

She let out her own laugh as she heard his. "What?" she asked, her brows furrowing slightly while she gave him a small, slightly confused smile. It was insane how in less than five years, his laughter has easily become one of her favourite sounds in the whole world. How just hearing it, seeing him laugh, made her feel completely and utterly at peace. How her heart leapt up in excitement. It was as if she was meant to hear his laugh. To bask in it like sunshine, enveloped in the warmth that it possessed. Not only that, but to be the one to make him laugh. To have cause him to experience that moment where the best and only thing he could do, was laugh. To watch his eyes light up and to know that she was the reason for it. It was beautiful. He was beautiful. And it took everything inside her not to reach up and kiss him right then and there and—
Hold the fuck up—
"W-Wait, what?" Avery blinked. She'd been so lost in his eyes and laughter that it took her a moment to register, exactly, what he had just said. And once she did, she nearly melted into a puddle. "She—We—You—I—Huh?" Would the tiny Egyptologist do that? She knew how close the two were. After all, Nilay had been the one to basically introduce them to each other. And knowing how much she loved Moshe, she wouldn't put it past her to do some matchmaking for her best friend. But... To want to pair him up with her? She was speechless. The longer she stared up at the anthropologist, the more it all began to settle. And finally, she smiled brightly.
"I think that's the best prospect I've ever heard," she admitted, moving closer to him. After years of getting to know him, after years of flirting with him, after years of dreaming to have this moment with him, there was a large part of her that was still scared. That felt that this was too good to be true. That part of her was ready to run and pretend that none of this happened. But... Looking up at him and his arm held out to her, she didn't want to run anymore. She wanted to take his arm and see if maybe, just maybe, this could work out. So she did that. She wrapped her hands around his arm and scooched closer to him, standing on her toes to kiss his cheek. "I'm right there with ya." Their own personal cupid. She could thank her a million times per day, every day, until the end of time, and still feel like it might not be enough. Yet, she wasn't going to focus on that right now. She wanted to focus on Moshe. And it was extremely easy to do so.
📖@moshebehar
He flushed almost immediately― boyish and sheepish and alight with joy in the split second of attention Avery had seen fit to give him; he'd felt that way in her presence since the moment they'd met but Moshe, for all of his intelligence when it came to most things in his life, felt utterly hopeless when it came to anything romantic. He felt flustered and slightly out of place in his own skin whenever it came up― even in passing conversation― and he couldn't quite imagine that changing. It worked for him in some small way― something about his earnestness that made people gravitate towards him in a way he appreciated even if he couldn't quite understand it. His mind skipped― record scratching against the notion that Avery paid enough attention to him to know what his favorite tie was in the first place; it made a pleasant heat prickle just beneath his skin, the smile on his face broad and sweet when he looked at her again and registered the rest of what she'd told him.
"A blind date..." Moshe repeated, blinking slowly― as though not quite registering the words as his mouth formed their syllables. A beat. The smile on his face widened and he laughed― warm and low, raising a hand to his face to cover his mouth for a moment before he shook his head, eyes crinkling at the edges as he grinned. "I don't think Nils is having a laugh about it or anything but I do think you're meant to be meeting me, darling," he said, straightening his posture in an instant― a confidence in the gesture that wasn't quite so alien for that brief moment. He was delighted― eager in a way that felt perfectly comfortable if only for the fact that it was so familiar where Avery was concerned.
"If that's not an entirely awful prospect for you: shall we get settled at a table?" He asked, raising an eyebrow even as he smiled. As much as he wanted to commit to spending a wonderful evening with Avery― he wanted to be wholly positive that she wanted the same. He'd have guessed she might; Nilay had never done anything for him that wasn't in his best interest and he couldn't imagine that changing at any point in their lives. "I'll have to write Nilay a thank you note or something, I reckon," Moshe said softly, huffing out a laugh as he held out his arm for Avery to take― eyes already shifting around the room for a table they could request, excitement flooding through him so thoroughly it made the tips of his fingers tingle.

With how down to earth Nilay was, sometimes it was easy for Avery to forget that she could buy the entire North American continent. Though, she knows that her brother, Theo, certainly made up for the extravagance that Nilay was more quiet about. Having heard all about the ideas he had for his home he was building with his girlfriend from the anthropologist. And with how many businesses and organizations their parents owned and were bringing to town, along with all the donations the whole family spent their money on, they also had a knack for being showboats. Yet, from the few times she's met the 'rents, they too were extremely down to earth. It was no surprise as to where Nilay got that from.
"Apple cider, eh?" Thinking about it, Avery smirked. "Yeah, I'm sure I can come up with something. Any hard-yeses or hard-nos liquor-wise? I can make a special one for you, my dear friend... Er..." Oh, fucking hell. Her brows furrowed. "I... have no idea what your name is... Oops?"
📖@valleyxrose
Valley smirked at the mention of this rich family in town. She had seen some people around with designer bags or expensive watches, but she'd figured they were just summer tourists. Habit crept up and she almost asked whether this buddy's partner had a brother or an uncle or a single-ish father, but she bit her tongue about it. She was trying to be different. Besides, she could afford a $20 watermelon on her own now (although she was too financially responsible to actually buy one).
“Ooh, that all sounds very good. I love to try new things, so I'm all about the seasonal drinks,” Valley smiled. “I love pumpkin spice, but if you made something with apple cider, I'm absolutely in. That's the quintessential autumn flavour for me.”

"Oh, mommy!" The bar owner gasped excitedly, eyes and smile widening. "With a reward like that on the line, how could I not be a good girl, hm?" The brunette giggled. Whether or not something did happen with Jeanie, she does feel lucky to have her in her life. That they were close enough to joke together and not have conflict. Coming to Blue Harbor has provided her with the friends she wished she had all her life, but was grateful to have them now at least. Relaxing again, she snorted softly at the gestures. "As long as they're the happiest lil roommates-husbands around—and come to a party that neither of them are hosting—then I'm all good. But yeah, I miss our fellow gremlins. If we put them in disguises, so you think we can find a way into the renovated arcade joint?" Doubtful, but she could dream. While Jeanie was retrieving the drink, Avery people-watched for a moment. Daydreamed. Maybe about a certain tall anthropology professor at BHU and kissing him would be like and— "Hm?" Shaking herself out of her thoughts, her smirk grew. "Oh, nooo; What a shame! Oh, well. Can't let those margaritas go to waste, now can we?"
📖@jeanieinabxttle
From the look on Avery's face, she could tell exactly what kind of thoughts were running through her mind. Jeanie rolled her eyes and amusement filled her tone, "Well If you're good, I'll let you fuck up the shower rail again later." She wasn't exactly wrong about it being forever and Jeanie was only human after all. Halfway through climbing back through the window, she paused to shrug. "With enough jell-o shots I bet we could tempt them, but I dunno. They're probably off busy being all-" And she made the lewd gesture again, grinning. "You know Seb, though. He'll show up when he shows up." Sliding back into the apartment with all the grace of a trampling elephant, she headed for the kitchen to grab their drinks, then stopped to think as she grabbed the jug from the counter. It was empty. Huh. When had that happened? Sticking her head back out the window, she drawled dramatically, "We're out. We might have to switch to margaritas. Tragic, I know."

Dungeons and Dragons night. G-d damn, does Hero love DND night. Seeing people all dressed up and either partaking in a campaign or enjoying the show. Drinks were half-off all night and for campaigners and Dungeon Masters, they get a buy one get one free once their campaign was done. After all, it was hard work and he was proud of all of them. There were some nights in which he gets to participate. Then, like these nights, he was overseeing everything and making sure the bar was running smoothly. He loved both equally; As long as everyone was having fun, he was happy. Didn't hurt that he was dressed up as Astarion as well.
Ensuring that the bar was stocked up and inventory wasn't out of date or anything, he glanced over his shoulder to smile at Maya. "Hey, angel! Yeah, of course. Ya want your usual or something else?" Turning back, he finished adjusting one of the rum bottles before turning to lean against the bar. It felt like it's been forever since he last saw the Latte Love owner. Granted, that was bullshit, since it's only been about six hours since he was at the coffee shop. But in the writer's eyes, that was six hours too long. Listening to her, his brows furrowed. "What's going on? Everything good with you and LaLo?"
📖@mayanoelle
CLOSED STARTER for @averyherochopra !! WHERE: aurora, before opening
Maya slipped in through the side door of Aurora, catching Avery just as she was setting up behind the bar. The familiar clinking of glasses and low thrum of music from the speakers greeted her, and she found the tension in her shoulders easing as soon as she stepped inside. “Hey, you got a minute?” Maya asked, leaning against the counter as casually as she could manage, but she already knew that Avery would pick up on the tightness in her voice. “I need to pick your brain about something. It’s business-related, I swear, but I might also need a drink while I do it.”
Her eyes darted over to the bottles lined up behind the bar–vodka, rum, whiskey, all potential distractions, but really, it was Avery’s advice she was after. With everything that had been piling up at Latte Love and now that damn call from her lawyer, Maya felt like she was drowning in it all. If there was anyone who could help her make sense of it and cut through the noise, it was Avery. She always knew what to say.

Hero has never been ashamed about his frequent visits to Carnal Knowledge. Now, there were some other shops and sights he uses for most of his collection (Bad Dragon being his favourite), but the local shop had some great stuff as well. But, while there was about a handful of things he'd never try out, he was typically more than ready to give anything a try. To experiment and see what else he might like.
And as he roamed about the store, humming along to the music and sucking on a dick lollipop he'd bought up front, the Labyrinth owner carried a basket on his arm with a couple of items already in. He wanted to see what else could be there that he might like to get. He jumped slightly at the sound of items being knocked over—however, seeing the British blonde from a few weeks ago caused him to smirk.
"Well, hello there," he mused. His own amusement only growing more and more as his mind compared their last interaction to now. "I can show you mine now that I've seen yours, if that'd make you feel better?" His smile only grew while he teased the woman. "Don't worry, Villanelle; I'm not one to yuck someone's yum."
📖@berenicehenry
@averyherochopra carnal knowledge, the place to be
she wasn’t fully present—something that didn’t happen often—but then again, her reputation was in tatters, and she was hiding in the depths of suburban illinois. there wasn’t much lower she could sink before hitting true rock bottom, but being high as hell in the middle of a sex shop felt pretty close. browsing through some… interesting objects, berenice wasn’t paying much attention to anyone around her. after all, it was late, nearing the end of the workday, and she was trying—trying being the key word—to move as fast as possible.
it was only when she reached for a very specific-looking vibrator, knocking the rest of the shelf’s contents onto the floor, that she realized someone had been standing right next to her.
“uh,” berenice said, vaguely recognizing the girl from the coffee shop a few weeks back. “it’s also rude to stare at someone’s dildo.”

Hero's lips moved into a smirk the moment he saw Isabel. The lawyer had become one of his regulars for awhile now, but the other night? That was the first time he's witnessed her going through some really awkward shit. Makes it all even funnier that it was with Doctor Nilay Bailey, the partner and baby mama of one of his good friends, and he wanted to get to the bottom of it. Leaning against the liquor shelves, he whistled while wiping down some glasses. Glancing up now and then at the woman before him to see if she would break. Imagine how Cheshire cat-like his smirk became once she did. "Fuck yeah I am," he said. Setting down the glass and drying cloth behind him before leaning against the bar. "What's going on between you and Doctor Anthropology? I know that she can be a bit shy and bashful, but she was downright awkward with you. Y'all got history or something?"

Isabel walks in along side of a person she met outside the bar, making small talk. She leans up against the counter, her gaze raising up to see Avery looking at her. If there was something Hero cherished, it was having friends who were also parents. Now, don't get them wrong: they loved their nonparent friends and knows that they love their children. But, when it came to those who also had some kids, there was a mutual understanding already there. Plus, their kids could play together without them having to worry about them getting into some kind of trouble. Well... Too much trouble, that is. Their kids always found some way to cause some kind of mayhem.
Leandro's family were some of the SlaterChopra family's favourite people to hang out with with. For the past few years now, their kids have been able to become so close. There was so much love and trust there, they were practically like a family by this point. And with Leandro, the kids were able to have him as a good role model in their lives. They looked up to him and, fortunately, he was able to help them with things that Hero couldn't. It had worried them at first if he was uncomfortable with that, but it fortunately wasn't the case. Then again, the man was genuinely one of the kindest guys ever. And he seemed to adore their kids as much as she adored his own.
The writer listened to their friend. While they knew very little about vivarium and weather systems (read: nothing at all), it was nice seeing the man talk excitedly about it and how he's been working on it with his kids. Sipping their drink and nodding along, they did ask, "Are you close to figuring that out? It's cool that you got that going on with the kiddos!" Finishing the rest of their horchata, they'd been about to ask Lean when he beat them to the punch. Their smile growing. "You read my mind completely, thanks. I hope you know that our friendship at this point is revolving around your wonderful horchata." Their words, as usual, were teasing as they beamed at the man. "So... Vivarium, weather changes, horchata; What else is going on in the life of Leandro Contreras?"
📖@hvneymelons
Closed Starter: @averyherochopra at Leandro’s place
With the commencement of school it was almost impossible for the girls to not want to come together and play after school. Leandro had become so used to Avery and her children’s regular presence that the children went off on their own around the yard while the two merely sat on the deck and supervised. Diego held onto Mars as if the sun rose and fell over the older boy. It was heartwarming to witness them having such a bond despite the enormous age difference between them. Despite the distance he could just picture his son naming off all the new insects he collected during their last hike. Much like his son, Lea sat telling Avery all about the weather system he planned to install in the vivarium in his basement. So far they only had ants living within, but over time he planned on introducing all types of insects and watching nature take its course. It was a hobby he and his children enjoyed even if the set up could take months. “I also think we can get it to adjust weather accordingly on its own. That’s the goal at the very least. I found this guy online who made his own. Much bigger than mine of course, but I’ve been emailing back and forth with him about it.” Leandro, noticing Avery’s glass empty, moved to stand and extended a hand, “Would you like a refill?” They were merely sipping on mocktails as it was rather early and he didn’t like drinking in front of his children, however he enjoyed a fun and tasty drink so he opted for making them virgin horchata. His children’s grandmother had gone through the trouble of preparing and blending the rice for him so all he truly had to do was pour some ice, the drink, and place a beautiful layer of cinnamon on top along with a stick of cinnamon just for the giggles.

"D'awww, no railing on the railing?" She pouted playfully. A smirk on the corner of her lips after a moment before she nodded. Her smirk forming into a smile as she imagined it. And yes, her imagination is wild. The damn fiend. "Then let's hope that the next party will happen very soon. And that the begonias are comfortable as fuck. Though I have complete and utter faith in this failing." Smacking it with her hand, Avery winced as it made a horrible creaking sound. Yeah, no, they'd be fucked (in the bad way) if they tried to be nefarious on it. Which was disappointing as hell. Avery snorted. "It's sure been forever for both," she pointed out with a shit-eating grin. "But yeah, we totally should! Everyone deserves it. It'd be nice to get something going. And yeah, I'd love some more. Think Welfora will be able to go? I feel like I haven't seen the happy couple in awhile."
📖@jeanieinabxttle
"No, but there's a first time for everything," she smirked, then shook her head with a regretful laugh. "But, as tempting as that offer sounds, I don't think the railings would hold out. Maybe we'll just have to let drunk us test it out at the next party, then we'll be less likely to feel it when it inevitably fall into Mrs Jefferson's begonias." The poor woman's flower patch had taken many a hit during blowouts at the apartment—it was a good thing she was such a forgiving neighbour—though no one had actually fallen from the fire escape into them... yet. Jeanie stood up, stretching her back out with a click. "I mean, saying that, it's been forever. Since we had a party I mean, not-" She made a lewd gesture to illustrate her point. "Maybe we should plan something soon. Everyone's got so much going on, I feel like we all need to get really really drunk. You want some more lemonade?"
