It’s weird that photographers spend years or even a whole lifetime, trying to capture moments that added together, don’t even amount to a couple of hours.

“It was an ass worth looking at — I’m very proud of myself; now turn around so I can see yours – kidding, kidding. Wanna join me over the road for some food? I’ll dial down on the classy, Crows honor”
Ava gave him the finger before standing from where she’d crouched down to look for the lost lens cap, certain she wouldn’t find it anyway. “I could go for food but please, don’t even try. You’ll just fail at it. Besides, the moment you try to be classy, Shaw, is the moment I know aliens have taken over your body or you’ve been brain washed.”

Thinking for a second Melinda realized that she had seen something resembling that. “I think I saw it over that bushes there,” she said while going towards it. Yes, there it was. She picked up the lens cap. “There you go.” She handed the girl the object.
Ava sighed in relief, glad she wouldn’t have to go digging through boxes at home for a spare. “Shit, thanks,” she nodded gratefully, taking it back but not without wiping it off a bit first. “Honestly didn’t even see it go there, probably would’ve gone the opposite way. But apparently it was only a "needle” in a dirt haystack.” She smiled brightly, blowing off a bit of dirt before inspecting to make sure it was clean and stuck it back on the camera.

“Sounds miserable, I think I’ll pass.” While the pair had never really ventured into one another’s social circles during their time in Blackwater Bay, their fateful connection outside of the home which hadn’t been kind to either of them was instantaneous. Ava and Leslie were the singular tethers she had to past friendships and the only two which mattered in the end. People’s origin stories never really fazed the youngest Monroe, she didn’t gripe about their financial upbringing or location within the town lines. Her mother’s lessons ran as fluidly through the brunette as her own blood. “What? The Rock running around shirtless didn’t do it for you? I’m down to watch a crappy summer flick, also ice cream. You think the old shop is still open? —I don’t know why I even bothered to ask, literally nothing has changed since we left.”
“Good, because I’d have no one else to share either with without being judged.” Not that Ava cared about being judged but she honest to God loved that Lenny didn’t give a shit either and was fine being the idiot with her sometimes. Running a hand through her hair, the photographer, snickered and wrinkled her nose, “The Rock could run around in anything and it would do it for me. The fact that he’s shirtless is a bonus I won’t object to. Ice cream and beer and chips. Sounds like a wild night, think we can handle it?” She waggled a brow playfully and looked around at the shops as they went. “The day that shop closes is the day the world ends, Len. Nothing’s changed– not even the people. Guess you really do have to take the girl out of the town to get the town out of the girl.” Ava had changed immensely since leaving, priorities were different, the way she thought of things was different too but...there was something about being back that made her wonder if she’d have stayed the same– if she’d be a Crow now had she remained. And she knew the answer was probably yes. Just like her parents had been after their parents and their parents too. Crow was in her blood even if she didn’t think it mattered all that much now. Screw town lines and places you were born– they were all people and Ava wasn’t sure any of it mattered beyond that. It shouldn’t, anyway.

“An asshole knocked into you? Damn you should have knocked whoever it was on their ass. Fuckers invading personal space.” she noted all but ignoring the eye roll. Liv wasn’t one for apologies or take backs. Instead she lifted her shoulders in a shrug, moving back to give the brunette room to look. There weren’t many places for the cap to have rolled off to. “Does it cost much to replace?” she off-handedly asked, wondering if it was worth showing something resembling politeness and help her look. It was not as if she was anxious to return to all her duties and daily tasks.
“Probably should’ve but I was kind of focused on not dropping this,” she said, tapping the camera slung over her shoulder, “Nah, it doesn’t,” Ava sighed, seeing that it wasn’t behind the blonde’s feet anyway, “just annoying. I have some at home but just means I can’t put it away without scratching the lens.” Well, she could’ve but it was just safer not to. Scratched lenses were a pain in the ass to fix and cost even more. “Thanks, though and, uh, if you see a runaway lens, Ava’s looking for it and would very much like it back,” the photographer said with a haphazard laugh.

“Exactly my impression, I’ve been at the office every waking hour, and sometimes over that so I’m usually the one that runs into these people that are babbling about wanna-be’s and I guess I allowed it to get personal, allowed it to urk me to the point where I got involved in an argument, clearly unprofessional and I apologize for that,” she stated before moving her hair out of her face. “There’s a plan behind it —- we just have to get one step ahead of them.”
“Have you guys made any progress? I mean, I know you can’t say shit really but...the people are wondering.” And even if writing articles and reporting wasn’t her job at the paper, Ava was still around it enough to be curious to ask for herself. “And I think we’re just waiting for the other shoe to drop, for the fifth body to show up.”

What’s really important is to simplify. The work of most photographers would be improved immensely if they could do one thing: get rid of the extraneous. If you strive for simplicity, you are more likely to reach the viewer.

“But ultimately what is most important is surrounding yourself with positive people and striving for happiness and balance in your life. I think it’s important to stay educated on what is happening around the world to really have perspective on your own life, it’s very easy to take things for granted.” - Phoebe Tonkin

“What the fuck would I do without you?” Returning to Blackwater Bay had been a necessity, never a choice the brunette voluntarily made of her own accord. Yet the simple knowledge that Ava would be venturing back into the lion’s den with her to attend the second most heartbreaking funeral of Leona’s life— it meant more than she could put into words. “I know, it’s why I love you. All I need right now is a night away from this bullshit, can we hole up at yours and watch a bad movie?”
“Eat healthier and listen to less shitty music?” Her friendship with Lenny was unexpected but welcome and Ava didn’t question it. They’d been reconnected through some random friend when Ava was traveling and then they’d met up again for years after and it was almost a respite from real life to be around Lenny. It was funny how, if they’d both stayed in this town, they’d probably have never connected, never become friends. Blackwater had always been fractured, whether or not anyone owned up to it– you either lived on the right side of town or you didn’t but out there? No one gave two shits where you were from and Ava was grateful for it. Still, here they were, back in a town neither of them had ever truly loved, for different reasons, sure, but her words were sincere– it didn’t matter that she was working now, Lenny had been a friend before any of the politics of their hometown were involved and that’s all that mattered to Ava. “If by bad movie you mean Baywatch? then yes, yes we can.”

Mason had been very stand-offish for as long as he could possibly remember, only showing a certain side to him to his closest friends and his family members. If you were in with him, then you were in— being out was a completely different story, however. Ava being someone he had once known was just that; once upon a time. “A good couple of years.” was all he saw the need to reply with, his gaze never leaving that of her eyes as he took in how much she’d actually changed in her abscence. “What’re you doing back here, then? Thought you would’a stayed gone.”
Ava didn’t expect a warm welcome really, or any welcome at all so it was just as well as she kept her gaze steady and shrugged, holding up the camera as if it was an explanation, “nah, not when there’s work to be had– working at the paper now. I...uh, heard what happened,” she added after a pause, “sorry for your loss,” because that’s what people said, no matter how trite it was– Ava had heard it enough times in her life to be sick of it and yet there she was offering the same empty words to him before rolling her shoulders back, “you take over the pub now or?” She assumed he had but who knew in this town, especially with so much going on, maybe he hadn’t, though, she imagined that wasn’t the case.

“Nope, can’t say that I have. Aren’t those supposed to be fastened to your camera?” she prompted, only mildly curious, giving the girl a short once over, running a heavy hand trough her long blonde hair, feeling the weight of the shift she had just come from. The workload was always heavy for her, more so now as her family could sure used the money. Quirking a brow, she barley managed to hide her condescending smile. “Shouldn’t you be on all fours looking?”
“I mean, they can, I just find they get in the way when I’m adjusting the lens and shit and usually assholes don’t knock into me and knock them away so.” She rolled her eyes at the blonde, before nodding at her feet, “or you could just move slightly so I could see?” If they weren’t behind the woman’s feet then it hadn’t rolled in this direction after all, the tables and chairs pretty open all things considered, not as closed off as a diner or booths might’ve been.

“I—” She glanced towards the nearest brick wall, amusement clouding her features. “Was only seventy percent on my way to a concussion.” Returning the hug, she grinned at her counterpart as they began strolling side-by-side through Blackwater Bay’s streets as though no time had passed at all. “Has anyone ever told you that you’re a sight for sore eyes? Not really sure I’d be able to come back here without you.”
“Good thing I’m here for the other thirty,” she mused, walking beside Lenny without much of a destination in mind. “Only you about a hundred times already, you know I’d have come back even without the job, right? Like...anything you need, Lenny, I’m here.” She nudged the other’s shoulder because while it had been convenient she’d already landed a job, even if she hadn’t, she’d have been there to support her friend, knowing loss all too well herself.

“You heard her.” his expression unchanging as he stared down the asshole who didn’t know the word no; something that really seemed to piss Maddox off. The good thing about being tall and muscular (despite not actually giving a shit about any of that) was that those with a weak disposition didn’t follow through with their words and some who didn’t know any better, well, his father had been a Crow and he was covered head to toe in not overly friendly tattoos; who was he to correct them? A mere moment later, the guy had handed the camera back, giving them both a look as he cursed under his breath and took off, leaving Maddox alone with the woman who he had to assume was a photographer. “Get the shot that you were after?”
She figured either the asshole would listen or ignore the warning and pay for it. Luckily there wouldn’t be any unnecessary blood on her shoes today as usually happened with fights in Blackwater. The man returned her camera which she snatched back almost immediately, wiping her sleeve gingerly across the lens to get rid of the fingerprints he’d left. She looked over at the dark-haired man, shaking her head, "Nah, asshole got in the way before I could. Like I’d take a picture of him downing the hotdog like he’s never eaten. But, uh, thanks, appreciate it.’

“Not lost, no.” Well, lost in the daydream of walking through a town she never thought to step foot in again. Very little had changed, save the recent murders and how familiar faces aged during her decade removed from Blackwater Bay. Lenny almost couldn’t decide if the idea were more haunting or sad when she paused to think on it, her internal observations only interrupted when someone took note and addressed the woman. “Pretty sure I’d know these streets even if I were blind, so the directions aren’t really necessary. I appreciate it though.”
“Funny, because looks like you were about to walk into a wall, Len,” Ava teased, coming up on her friend’s side as the lady who’d offered advice took it as her sign to leave.“but I guess that’s not really lost, is it? So much as zoned the hell out,” she gave her a side-hug because she could and because whenever the two ran into each other in whatever city or town they were in at the time, it was like no time had passed. It didn’t matter if they hadn’t talked for several months or even a year and change, if they had time to catch up, it felt like not much time had passed at all.
