Now About this Megami thing…

I know a lot of people have jumped the gun and declared Megami a lesbian because YanDev said she hates men in the Student Council video. People have exhausted pointing out the fallacies with this logic at this point, so I won’t dive into that. But let’s take a different route with this. I don’t mind the lesbian headcanons for Megami, but just bear with me for a moment:

It could be very well possible that Megami hates men because of her dad.

Now, this can stem from several possible reasons — abuse, neglect, or even assault (since YanSim is no stranger to dark themes) — but they can also be because of Mr. Saikou, himself. She may have learned over the years that the Saikou corporation is corrupted and realized that her father isn’t as clean-cut as she once tried to believe. She may suffer from neglect because her father is so engrossed in his work that he’s never around. Or she may despise him because he has forced the Saikou corporation on her shoulders and isolated her from the world, when all she wanted was to be a normal girl. Or maybe it’s a combination of all three.

Because she has been isolated from most others her age in the name of “protection”, Mr. Saikou may very well be the only male figure she has ever had in her life. And if that one male figure turns out to be shady, neglegant, and controlling…well, it can be pretty hard to assume any other man is much different.

Again, I don’t mind the lesbian Megami headcanon. But it’d be nice if people took more factors into account rather than just brushing complex psychological issues under the umbrella of “oh they’re gay”. 🤷🏻‍♀️
