“That’s good.” Kara smiled at the other man. “Don’t let me forget to show you but you gotta be sneaky, I only let people I like see where I keep them.” She laughed. Kara was lucky, she had been working in this hospital for a few years now, she was well respected in the ER, but she knew how it hard it could get. “He does, which is nice.” Kara smiled, taking another drink of her wine. “So, how long have you been in the States for?” Kara asked, interested to know more about the man. 

He chuckled and nodded his head. “Promise, I’ll be like a ninja,” he replied. “I do appreciate you looking for me, by the way... Didn’t really know what to expect coming here,” he said. His eyes drifted back to the man behind the bar, wondering if he was actually watching him, or if it was in his head. Taking a drink from his beer, he shrugged. “I’ve been back and forth. This time around though, it’s only been a few months. Heading back home for a visit before moving here.”

Kara looked over at Jesse with a slight concern on her face. “Are you eating enough? Drinking enough?” She asked. Kara knew the toll this job could take one someone, especially when you just move and have to prove yourself. She didn’t think it was fair. “Next time you come to the ER remind me to show you where I hide the good snacks, it will always be open to you. And if you ever need anything, I am just a call away.” She chuckled. “I will keep that in mind for the future Aussies I meet.” Kara laughed, tucking a loose curl behind her ear. “Oh, David you owns the place, he used to be a firefighter, I met him when I was treating him in the ER and he told me about it when he was opening.” Kara smiled, giving the man a wave. “He’s suckered me in ever since.” 

He shook his head. “Don’t worry about me. I got it under control... But I certainly won’t be turning down the good snacks,” he chuckled. This wasn’t new to him, having headed to new places a few different times. It would be over soon enough and he didn’t want her to spend her time concerned about him. He smiled and winked at her. “Happy to spread the word.” Taking another drink from the glass, he put it down and looked at the older man, smiling softly as Kara waved at him. A small chuckle came from him at the look the man gave him though. “Yeah, seems like he’s looking out for you,” he replied. “Can’t blame him for that though.”

Kara knew how easy it was to get lost in a job like theirs, she had to constantly remind herself to get out there and actually have a social life, so she was thrilled when Jesse suggested they go to the bar. Kara stood up to give him a hug. “It’s good. Feels nice to be out and not have worry about my phone going off.” She chuckled. “How are you?” She asked. While they did see each other when he brought a patient in, it didn’t really lend to getting to talk to him about anything else so this was nice. “It’s a very good place.” Kara beamed. “I ordered you a beer, sorry, I wasn’t sure if that’s what you wanted. I can get you something else if you like.” 

“Yeah, can’t remember the last time this happened,” he chuckled. He gave a small shrug. “I’m alright. Little run down but nothing I can’t handle,” he replied. The two of them saw each other fairly often but their chat was mostly hand off chat on what was going on with a patient before she rushed off. But he’d be lying if he said he didn’t enjoy at the very least seeing her during his shift. It was always a bit of a disappointment if he went in and found someone else. He smiled, shaking his head. “Beer is fine. Great even... You meet an Australian that turns down a beer, they’re not a real Aussie,” he laughed, picking up his drink to take a sip. “So, how do you know about this place?” he asked.
