Well. Happy 18th Birthday to me. This feels surreal. Honestly didn't think I'd get this far.

Recent life event
I had major surgery. I had what is called a spinal fusion surgery for some pretty gnarly kyphosis. I'm recovering and doing much better than before the surgery. Although I'm having some issues, but I'll get better. It'll just take time.

Hi. My name is August, I am 16 years old, and I am seeing the world for the first time. I have been nearsighted for as long as I can remember. It's getting worse as I get older. I now have trouble seeing just about everything without my glasses. In fact I can't even see my hands in front of me. But even with my glasses I can't see properly. Everything looks just slightly off. Colors are muted, faces are slightly off, everything just isn't quite right. I didn't even know this wasn't correct until my grandfather asked why I read with my glasses on top of my head. I just explained that it was really hard to read with my glasses because the words kind of merge. I had no idea this was abnormal. On October 8th 2021, my family took me to a new optometrist to figure out what was going on. After about 20 minutes of trying to figure out what was going on, and getting absolutely nowhere, the optometrist asked if I wanted to try contacts. I said yes. I had no idea that this decision would change my entire life. I saw my mom for the first time that day. I'm 16 and had never seen my mom before, and I live with her. This blog is to document all of my new experiences. My next goal is a park. I've never been to a park with my contacts before. I also want to go to a Chuck E Cheese because I think that would be great.
