Alex was making himself a sandwich in Mer’s kitchen. The hospital seemed on edge, like people were holding on to secrets and stress, distracted from surgeries. Hanging out at Mer’s was probably the best place to get to the bottom of that. Plus, he was hungry so he’d driven over.
The kitchen was surprisingly well stocked - Ellis or Bailey or someone must have gone grocery shopping recently. He had already piled the sandwich with ham and was now opening a packet of turkey.
“Oh hey,” he said, as he heard footsteps approaching, “You want one too?”
audrey was on her way over to ask meredith a question, hoping she had been home but when she entered the house knowing that the door was usually always unlocked. she was surprised to see her dad there. “what are you doing here? don’t you have food at home? you’re eating all of aunt meredith’s food.” the brunette raised and eyebrow and then looked around the kitchen. she sighed as she didn’t see anybody else around and took a seat the table. “are you the only one here? i was kind of looking for aunt meredith.”

dramberk:
Amber was talking to Marnie, possibly her favorite nurse, looking at pictures from her daughters 2nd birthday party. Most of her patients had been rounded on and she was just trying to make it through the rest of the day relatively unscathed. When she heard someone say ‘Dr. Karev’ she turned and saw a woman walking her way. And the moment she said her father, Amber’s heart stopped. And then she started asking questions. What was the policy for this? Was there some rulebook Amber could check to see if she should tell her? God, where was a magic 8 ball when you needed it. “Yeah. I uh…your dad is Alex right?” Upon hearing that, Marnie, who was well caught up on all the Seattle Grace tea, knew exactly what was going down. “I’m…I’m your aunt. Amber.” She didn’t exactly know what to do, so instead she just stuck a hand out.
audrey scrunched up her eyes brows and sighed. was she just confirming that alex was her father? because most people who worked at the hospital, already knew this. “that would be correct. alex is my dad and jo is my mom.” audrey smiled and then her jaw dropped a little when amber mentioned she was her aunt. “oh shit” audrey mumbled under her breath and then looked around her. “sorry- not the best choice of words. you caught me by surprise though. i mean, i’ve heard of you before... just never thought you’d be here in seattle.”

audrey had been working round the clock and somehow the long shifts never seemed to get easier, like everybody said they would. taking a deep breath as she walked down the hallway and tried to find whoever the PEDS nurse was looking for. somehow they paged the wrong karev and audrey was going to get to the bottom of who they meant to page. she turned around when she heard one of the nurse’s talking to another blonde and she walked down the hallway. “so, are you the dr.karev they meant to page? because it sure wasn’t me and i don’t think my father is working today.” she shook her head and then raised an eyebrow. “which makes me question why on earth you have the same last name as us. are you some long lost sister? please tell me no- because i have enough siblings to deal with already.”

“Well, if some guy is being creepy you can definitely feel free to sit here for as along as you need.” Jameson said with a nod, glancing around for the sign of the creepy resident so that he could make sure he stayed away. “The leg has its good days and its bad days. Today is a good day and I’m lucky for that. Honestly, the crutches will last as long as they need to, no real time frame. Just hoping it won’t be too much longer.” Jameson admitted. “Oh, the costume wasn’t my idea. If you see a little Princess Melody running around, it was hers. What about you? What made you go with this one?”
audrey looked over her shoulders and took a seat down at the table. “you’re a lifesaver! thank you.” she smiled and nodded her head, as she looked down at his leg. “that’s good, i hope you start having more good days than bad days. crutches are the worst! i sprained my ankle when i was pregnant with jamie and had to be on them for a month, it was the worst.” the brunette said taking a sip of her drink and then looking around to see if she could spot the costume. “i’ll have to take a walk around and see if i can find her. i’ve always been a big fan of marvel and the scarlett witch, so i figured why not!”

“i don’t think it means anything, couples costumes don’t mean people are actually a couple, they’re just. . two costumes that go together,” charlotte muttered, another sip of her drink following. “two is a couple so like i don’t know,” a huff because she knew her words weren’t making much sense and it was annoying. “i felt that, this shirt is itchy and jamie is way cooler than this party. no offence to the hosts.”
“that’s true. i’ve done a couples costume with my best friend before and we definetly weren’t dating.” audrey pointed out, as she looked out at all the different costumes people had on. the brunette did laugh a little and nodded her head. her son was way cooler than this party and she’d much rather be at home with him. “why don’t you take it off? don’t you have a tank top underneath it or soemthing? i know jamie was sad when i left, but thankfully his babysitter brought him even more candy so it cheered him up.”

Carlin chuckled softly at Noah’s words. “Well, I appreciate your honesty. Always better to be upfront about how you’re feeling in my opinion.” She assured him, watching him down the rest of his drink. “I don’t think it’s lame at all. But if Halloween isn’t your thing, that’s alright. Who convinced you to show up if you’re so opposed to this whole thing?”
“i agree but some people might not agree with that. say i’m being too negative about things, but if you ask me? honesty is always the best way to go.” noah shrugged his shoulders and chuckled a little bit. “well, i figured it was better than sitting at my apartment by myself. plus, i figured maybe some of my co-workers would be here but it turns out its mostly just doctors and nurses.”

“thanks, sure is!” charlotte responded, a bright smile on her face as she listened to her friend talk about jamie. she loved that kid a lot, and she’d had a cup of special punch a little bit ago which had been her first drink ever. “it’s pretty good, except everyone keeps asking me if my mom and mark are banging because they’re burt and ernie but truly, i think amelia’s sorta fruity,” okay miss overshare. “are YOU having fun?”
audrey couldn’t help but laugh when she brought up the costumes and amelia being a little fruity. “hey- i wasn’t going to say anything.” she chuckled and took a sip of her drink, before nodding her head. “i mean, i just feel bad for lexie. i hope she doesn’t hear people talking about mark and amelia. i mean, if you ask me I think their just friends.” the brunette took a bite of a cookie she was holding in her hand and then nodded her head. “sure, i guess. i would rather be at home with jamie but it’s good to get out.”

“i love your costume.. kim possible right?” audrey asked and then nodded her head. “that used to be my favorite show growing up. thankfully, i get to watch it sometimes since i’ve gotten jamie hooked on all the older disney shows.” audrey smiled as she smoothed out her dress, while holding a beer in her other hand. “are you having a good time?”

jamesonwarren:
If it hadn’t been for Ayla being so excited about the family costume idea, Jameson probably wouldn’t have attended this Halloween get together at all. Now that he was walking using a cane, and sometimes crutches, the pain in his leg was often even more noticeable as he was using the muscles more frequently; and that would have been the perfect excuse to not go. His parents weren’t talking to him, his siblings weren’t at this get together, and he could have easily stayed home on the couch watching Halloween movies or found a Seattle friend to spend time with. But when she’d asked him to go as Prince Eric, those big eyes staring up at him, he hadn’t been able to say no. Taking a break by sitting at a table, Jameson took a sip of water and then turned his attention to someone as they walked up to him. “Hey, what’s up?”
“i’m trying to hide from one of the other residents. he’s a little creepy and honestly, i don’t feel like dealing with him tonight.” audrey said looking over her shoulder, before taking a seat next to him. “how’s the leg treating you? how much longer do you have on the crutches?” she asked taking a sip of her beer. she wasn’t much of a wine drinker and to her, beer was the next best thing. “i like your costume! how’d you come up with being prince eric?”

“wow, do we think alike or what? people are going to think this whole marvel costume thing was planned you know.” audrey laughed looking at her dad’s costume and nodding her head. “you did a nice job on it.”

One thing about Donovan was that he was not a kid-person. He had never been fond of kids, and in fact, the only ones he’d ever felt anything for were his niblings that he’d taken in upon their parents’ demise. So, when a child that looked no older than three nearly ran into him in the hallway, Donovan had to tell himself not to get angry - especially seeing as the kid seemed a little frightened themselves.
“You lost?” Donovan asked, getting a small nod in return. Taking the kid’s hand, he walked through the halls with them until the kid gave a resounding mommy! and ran away from him into the arms of a woman Donovan had seen around but couldn’t quite place.
“This your little crotch goblin?” he asked, with a quirked brow.
audrey had been running around this morning, trying to get everything settled before she moved into her new condo. she had everything all packed and was thankful that her family helped her, but then she looked at the clock and realized she was going to be late for work. the brunette hurried to get dressed and make sure jamie’s back was packed for daycare before heading out the door.
once at the hospital, audrey shuffled through the many doctors and nurse’s in the hallway to make it down to the daycare. she had jamie holding her hand, but one minute he yelled and thought he saw alex and he was excited so he ran down the hall. audrey freaked out as she lost sight of him and ran down the hallway, trying to find him. she slowly caught her breath, when she saw jamie holding an older man’s hand and walking towards her. audrey smiled as jamie ran into her arms and she gently picked him up. “jamie, you know better than to just run. you have to wait for mama, remember?” she said looking at her son, who nodded his head. “thank you - yes, he’s mind. he thought he saw his grandpa and took off running. i’m sorry if he bothered you.”

“so, like i was saying - i’m really thinking of choosing obgyn/neontal as my speciality and i’d like your opinion it. i know that i could ask my mom, but i figured an outsiders opinion would be a better idea.” audrey asked the doctor, who she looked up to. audrey never really had a mentor before, she kind of just floated through her residency not knowing what she wanted to do - until the past few weeks where she had been on the OBGYN floor and loved it more than anything.

zalifitz:
“I guess so,” Zali agreed. She sighed. “I didn’t expect the transition from med school student to intern to be so jarring. I probably should have, though, so that’s my own stupidity. Everything is just so crazy. I’m lucky that my daughter is old enough to understand that momma is trying to save lives and that’s why she’s away,” she told her. “I just.. it’s been her and I for so long, I don’t want to let her down.”
audrey understood how zali felt. even though she didn’t have jamie while transitioning from medical school to internship, she still had a rough go of it. she knew what it was like to be a single mom and try to be a doctor at the same time - it wasn’t easy at all. “yeah, that’s a good thing. she understands what you’re doing. sometimes i feel bad because jamie is so young, he doesn’t understand why i’m gone so often. it’s hard being a single parent- i feel like we don’t get enough credit.”

OPEN STARTER.
phoebe had dropped hallie jo off at the daycare centre before her shift and was going to get a coffee before she did anything else. she had twenty minutes to kill so she made her way down to her favourite coffee cart. ’ vanilla latte, please. ’ she spoke to the server. she sat down in front of the coffee cart and turned to the person beside her with a smile. ’ have you been waiting long? ‘
“not very long, i just got here. jamie wasn’t feeling well, so i had to find a babysitter instead of bringing him to the daycare.” she smiled at her sister as she waited for her latte. the brunette had been exhausted from the night before. jamie had been up all night with a fever, but he was finally feeling a little better this morning - but audrey didn’t want to take any chances and send him to the daycare. “how’s everything? i feel like it’s been awhile since we’ve spoke, which is my fault.”

Sofia fell silent for a few moments, then nodded her head a little slowly. “We could, and we should,” she turned to Audrey, brows furrowed as a small grin blossomed on her lips. “Who’s going to miss us?”
audrey turned her head from the mirror and over to face sofia, with her makeup brush still in her hand. “are you serious? because if you are, then i’m down.” she was exhausted from working rounds today and to be honest, she didn’t want to have to put on a fake smile while dealing with all these people. “nobody! well - maybe our parents, but that doesn’t matter. they see us enough as it is.”
