okay like. i'm having a journey rereading noli me tangere and el filibusterismo, and maria clara and crisostomo's relationship get's so immensely underplayed by everyone. like yes we love our homoerotic duo, but also—

this hits. this hits so fucking much. and i, not gonna lie, teared up having read the passage in el filibusterismo in the past wherein basilio breaks the news to crisostomo that maria clarra has passed. maria clara was truly crisostomo's heart and soul. she has personality— she's emotional and playful and sheepish and empathic and i wished people gave her more credit than someone who is frail and incapable of dojng anything. i know a lot of the women in rizal's stories are copy pasted but i can't help but also think that characters like maria clara are strong in their own accord, and how rizal wrote how crisostomo loved her felt like a love letter to all the women who helped rizal in his life. idk, something something maria clara is great something something

i think this just shows how well hamilton…understood laurens??? “fallen a sacrifice to his ardor” because truly, his passion at that time was serving. the public good, right? “a trifling skirmish in SC” he acknowledges that it was…underwhelming. unimportant. he pities laurens—“Poor Laurens”—because of it.

if laurens knew that the battle for which he lost his life would go largely unnoticed, he wouldn’t be satisfied.

i also want to acknowledge that he says “how truly i loved him” in the past tense and says “how much i regret him.” in present tense…i just want to know. what is it you regret, hamilton?
