This broke me.

As powerful as it is to know that Jack was willing to let the world go to the 456 if only Ianto would be spared, as a bubble moment in and of itself, it’s so much more powerful knowing Jack’s characterization. Because he is always making hard calls and making sacrifices for the good of the world, but Ianto is where he draws the line.

Jack let Jasmine go with the fairies for the good of the world. This is made more palatable because she wanted to go, but it’s still a sacrifice that makes Jasmine’s mother lash out at him and causes Gwen, Tosh, and Owen to give him the cold shoulder. I think it’s debatable whether or not he would have let the fairies have her even if she hadn’t wanted to go - maybe the issue would have dragged on a bit longer, but barring any other solutions presenting themselves (and the episode makes it clear this is unlikely), I think he would have given her up.

He sacrificed the original 456 victims as well. He knew that he was handing a bunch of scared little kids to an alien, and he didn’t know what was going to happen to them; they could have been dinner for all he knew. This was also not his call to make, but he went along with it because it was made clear that it was 12 kids or the world. He follows orders and doesn’t even try to find another solution.

He sacrifices Steven, his own grandson, to stop the 456, because it’s down to the wire and this is the only solution available. They don’t have time to come up with anything else. And what else is he going to do? Go hunt down a less conveniently available child and devastate someone else’s family just to keep his own intact? Most people would have; we see all the politicians specifically discuss that none of their families will lose children to the 456.

Yet Jack is willing to walk away from the path he’s set himself on of protecting the world, and would let terrible, horrific things happen in the world and to other people, if only it would save Ianto’s life. And knowing that in the context of Jack’s previously established characterization just makes it that much more devastating and really speaks to how much he loves and needs Ianto, and also to the effect the loss of Ianto has on him, despite their relationship never really being discussed in the text very much or taking centre stage at all.

Today i listened to audio drama torchwood "Fall to earth" from ianto jones and the girl in it, Zeynep, was turkish and said the phrase "Enshallah" and ianto calling her say Enshallah Zeynep was so unexpectable because i'm Iranian (near Turkey) and have these names and phrases in our daily life and idk this was fun :">

Just finished S4 of doctor who and i loved the part that Ianto calls the doctor SIR!

(Absolutely adore him when he was jealous of the doctor and jack. An icon.)

And the detail of their relationship was all around especially the scene that he help jack to wear his coat as always he does.

jack harkness in the corpse of satellite five. waiting. because when someone brings you back from the dead, they don’t just leave you there, right? they can’t. jack harkness, alone, the last living soul aboard, and he’s not even meant to be that but for love’s sake, he is. and waiting for that familiar engine to return, groaning and singing. and it never does. and it never will. jack harkness, deathless, for days without food or water or sleep, waiting for the doctor and rose to come back. putting off when he will have to crawl out of his grave, because no one is coming to offer him a hand or to tell him why they dug him up, and start living again.

You don’t understand I love the hug in this scene so much more than the kiss that comes after (tho the kiss is pretty fucking awesome too) because look how nervous and cute Ianto is trying to go for a hand shake cuz he doesn’t wanna overstep any boundaries but then Jack’s all like ‘NAAA MATE’ and just PULLS him in and Ianto kinda just BURIES his face in the crook of his neck (because 51st century pheromones) just like he buried his nose in Jack’s jacket, and they just kinda SWAY on the spot with Jack trying to touch all of Ianto all at once and it’s so FUCKING PERFECT

The way Jack can’t stop looking at Ianto after they pull him out of the rubble in Fragments after the bombs go off. 

And asking him like a million times if he’s okay and, the look on his face when he pops Ianto’s shoulder back into place, desperate to make sure that he’s actually okay.

Like he’s just so scared that he almost lost him and worried that he’s in pain. That is pure fear and concern on Captain Jack Harkness’ face

And then, after Gwen goes to find Owen, Jack asks Ianto two more times if he’s okay and puts his hand over Ianto’s heart to be absolutely sure that he’s okay
