Maria sat in silence, listening to each word that passed his lips and processing the weight of them. Their eyes never left his except to glance at his arm and the injury that had sparked the entire conversation. Inner thoughts swirled around, comparing and contrasting his peculiar situation to anything similar in their memories.
"If I hadn't experienced half of the crazy shit I do on a regular basis, I'd probably accuse you of being insane." They spoke up only once he was finished. No malice nor disbelief laces the words. There was no reason not to believe him. "I can't say I have any idea as to what's going on with you...but maybe we can find out. When we get back, we can look over my old notes and see if we can find somewhere to start looking."
There was no hiding the growing interest that dwelled within them, sparked by the prospect of new knowledge to be obtained. "Also...if it isn't any trouble...I-I'd like to ask you about the time you were alive." Hopefully he would not take offense to the request...but they just couldn't pass up such an opportunity they'd almost certainly never have again.
Maria paused as they took in his words. Their gaze slowly came to settle upon him once more, head tipping slightly. Did they hear him right? They took a seat, already figuring this was going to be a long explanation.
"Tell me what happened." They answered. The question is gentle, holding no judgement nor mistrust. Just curiosity at what he has to say. The fire crackled quietly between them, filling the silence that hung between each word spoken.

His joke earned him a smile and a small laugh. "Now that would be very interesting. Wouldn't be surprised if some whack job in Tevinter hasn't already tried it." While amusing in jest, the idea was curious. It's not like such a thing would be impossible, given what Maria has witnessed in their life up to this point.
"I'd believe about anything at this point." They leaned back against a nearby tree, eyes moving about lazily even as their mind raced on like always. Always too many thoughts. Quiet moments like this offered a needed chance to sort through them all.

"Well...the ones I've personally seen weren't...but I have heard of at least one that didn't try to eat people's faces off... Just depends on what the corpse gets possessed by. Sadly, it's usually demons." Thought etched its way onto Maria's features as they pondered his question before offering a smile to him once more. "I'm honestly surprised we haven't seen more with all the Breach nonsense going on...guess when they can simply cross over they don't need the corpses."
So many curious happenings ever since the Breach first appeared, and seemingly never enough time to fully understand it. Then again, much of their life had been filled with such events. The thought that the land of Thedas might just be cursed came to their mind a few times. Not a serious thought, but an amusing theory nonetheless.

"You're certainly not wrong there, at least from what little I've managed to put together. I'd argue the past millennia or more just to be safe." A small sigh slipped past their lips as they thought over the myriad of relics and records they'd searched through over the years. "I have a feeling, we might be getting to the end of it soon. At least, at the end of whatever this is." It's hard to say why such a feeling came to them, but it's one they couldn't shake. Perhaps they'd read too many stories lately.
Maria continued to watch him, fascinated by him. "Indeed we will. Whatever it ends up being, at least it should be interesting."
The smile upon his face was short lived, but knowing it could exist was enough to ease their worries about him some. He seemed so somber this whole time. "Heh, I mean there are zombies, and trust me those bites get nasty real fast if you aren't careful. I've got the scar to prove it." A small chuckle escaped their lips as the mood lightened between them.

"Trust me, things will definitely get worse. Whatever we're dealing with, this is just the beginning of it." They add, checking over their work before releasing his arm back to him. "Feels like shit's been doing nothing but getting worse for the past decade. I swear that Blight was some kinda omen."
Maria watches him quietly, letting him take his time to think and look over their work. Something is eating at him. Yet, they know better than to pry. Best let him open up in his own time. A gentle hand rests on his shoulder, hoping to provide some comfort.
"As long as we can. Something's gotta give eventually. Whether we live to see it or not, we have to have hope that things will get better." A faint, sad smile paints their lips at his concern. They shake their head. "Not too bad, I already got patched up and lectured for the night."

With a cautious touch, the poorly wrapped bandages are removed from his arm and placed to the side. They eyes look from his wound to his face both concerned and curious about how calm he is.
However, such thoughts are kept to themselves as they gently apply the poultice to his arm.
"Don't mention it. We're on a team, it's only right to help if I can."
They're words are as soft as the way they reapply the bandages once they are satisfied. He can feel them tighten around his arm with each practiced motion.
"There. That should hopefully help a bit."

They take a gentle seat next to him, holding out their empty hand expectantly. While they can't tell the reason behind his hesitancy, it's no good to let him keep suffering in silence. Even from the other side of camp they had caught sight of him trying to tend to his injury, and clearly struggling with the matter.
"If you're worried about it stinging, I'll be gentle."

"Hold still, [name], this might sting a bit." "You're lucky it's just a few scratches. You need to be more careful!" "Don't be such a baby. It's just a flesh wound." "I can't believe you jumped into that fray without thinking! What were you trying to prove?" "Here, let me help. I've had my fair share of battle wounds." "Ouch! Warn me before you start cleaning those cuts." "You're a mess. How did you even get into this situation?" "I never thought I'd see you so vulnerable. It's strange." "Let's patch you up before anyone else sees you like this." "You really need to work on your combat skills. I can't keep playing nursemaid." "I've got the first aid kit. Sit down, and let me take care of those injuries." "You did well out there, but you're not invincible. Let me help." "I told you not to charge in without a plan. Now look at you." "I never expected to see you in need of my care. Life is full of surprises." "I suppose I should thank you for saving me, even if it means playing nurse now."

@athlan-lansila || LIKED for a STARTER
He's quiet, distanced from everyone else as he tends to wounds some few days old and yet unchanged in their appearance. Long has he noticed that his healing is disrupted, that he only sees flesh knit back together when in the vicinity of one of those temperamental rifts torn through to the fade.
'Pon hearing approaching footsteps, he's quick to cover the wounds, wrapped haphazardly with the clean linin ere offering a small smile over a shoulder;
"Tired of camp shenanigans, too-?"

lmaooooo that post really got me thinking. because tranquility is the most compelling argument against the circles, dai completely skips over them and paints circle mages as the ones abusing the tranquil which is just… so fucking insane
the first tranquil mage you meet is in redcliffe and he’ll tell you that the tevinter mages have kicked out the tranquil and asks to go with the inquisition because they can be useful. which makes no sense because literally in the same part of the game you can find a bunch of tranquil skulls in a shed, because the venatori have been killing the tranquil. you get commentary from EVERYONE about how the circle mages abandoned the tranquil. you talk to minaeve in haven and she implies that the mages somehow didn’t see the tranquil as people and that’s a fault of the mages themselves.
like… who made the rite of tranquility? who lobotomised them in the first fucking place and then USED THEM to handle lyrium to make money for the circle??? who displays tranquil mages all around the circle to remind mages of what will happen to them if they disobey?? WHO USES THE RITE OF TRANQUILITY AS A PUNITIVE MEASURE AGAINST MAGES??? the chantry and the templars themselves level the tranquil as a threat and use them as things but somehow it’s the circle mages’ fault that the tranquil were killed off??? whose fault is it that the mages fear and are uncomfortable with the tranquil?? who DESIGNED it that way??? whose purpose does it serve???
and it’s literally the stupidest thing anyway. how did tranquil mages END UP in fucking redcliffe in the first place IF THEY WEREN’T WITH THE MAGE REBELLION??? like??? hello??? tranquil mages HAD FRIENDS in the circle. they had LOVERS in the circle. they were people before the chantry ripped everything away from them and there’s evidence that MAGES ACTUALLY WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO BRING THEM OUT OF THE CIRCLE TOO
there’s NO commentary or dialogue or even shock about avexis being made tranquil in dai even tho cassandra is RIGHT THERE and PERSONALLY KNEW avexis. you can make mage prisoners tranquil as a mage inquisitor which is SO fucked up because it’s literally the most horrible thing that could happen to a mage? EVERY SINGLE MAGE, irrespective of personal political beliefs about the circle, fears tranquility??? the only time a mage doesn’t fear it is when they genuinely think the templars will otherwise kill them??? wouldn’t it make more sense for a templar spec inquisitor or an andrastian inquisitor specifically to have that option?? why make it so MAGE inquisitors can do it, like they didn’t grow up with the threat hanging over their heads the entire time they were in the circle AS CHILDREN??
cass’ quest where you find out they always knew how to reverse it and simply … didn’t, essentially permanently lobotomising millions of mages for a thousand years, is less impactful when you don’t understand how horrific tranquility is. finding out they’ve essentially abused the rite to abuse mages and then telling cassandra that actually no, the seekers dont deserve to be rebuilt, the chantry deserves to crumble, generates disapproval! she DISAPPROVES of you disapproving of their abuse of power! and you can’t do ANYTHING about it afterwards! cass just decides to keep it a secret until they can find out more about it… when? how will you find out more if no one else knows the reversal exists? there’s NOTHING about helping the tranquil even as a throwaway line in the epilogue slides! there’s no tranquil walking around discussing it, making note that cassandra approached them or anything like that at all!
there’s just NO real exploration in dai of what the tranquil are – why the rite of tranquility is used (other than the “claims” of it being to “help save mages” who otherwise can’t control their magic), what function the tranquil have in the circle (there’s literally an economic motivation for the chantry and the templars to keep making mages tranquil bc tranquil mages can manipulate lyrium for enchantments), and there’s NO conflicting opinions on the necessity of the rite in the first place and NO REAL TRANQUIL VOICES. the one person who DID have the rite of tranquility used against them punitively in kirkwall ends up working for one of the antagonists!
considering people went into dai for the first time and didn’t have the bg knowledge of tranquility from dao and da2, it’s just so deliberate. the problem, suddenly, isn’t that tranquil mages are made by the chantry and the templars, it’s not even that the rite is used punitively irrespective of whether it should exist or be used at all. the problem, dai argues, is that mages treat tranquil mages badly. that without the circle, the tranquil mages are killed and abused bc they’re vulnerable. as tho tranquil mages are just naturally occurring in nature and not a horrific abuse resulting from the circle in the first place.
#ooc#{{ya seriously wtf}}#{{just another case of forced “both sides are equally bad” bs rolling over from 2}}#{{literally my biggest pet peeve is that they keep trying to make the mages seem “just as bad” as the templars/chantry}}#{{as if those two orgs are not the entire reason mages act up at all}}#{{it's just caged/tranquil or we get tevinter and there's so little discussion of reality}}

𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐎𝐌 𝐏𝐆-𝟏𝟑 𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐓𝐒
Random general RP prompts, without cursing, requested by anon. Feel free to edit pronouns / etc. to make them more fitting !
“Oh my god, what is that !?”
“You should have seen them. I could hardly breathe with their ego taking up all the space in the room.”
“Hey, hey, stop. I literally have no idea of what you're talking about. How about you start from the beginning? Or at least put a subject in your sentences.”
“C'mon, who never had a ‘spaghetti coming out of the nose’ moment?”
“You insufferable...piece of...rotten lemon pie!”
“Do as I say and not as I do. For real, though. You don't want to do what I do. I don't want to do what I do.”
“I thought I’d never set foot in a place like this, but here we are. Congratulations on making my life a little more miserable.”
“Sometimes I wonder why I even bother. I might as well be talking to myself. I surely listen more to myself than you do.”
“Keep up the cocky act, it’ll only make you lose faster.”
“From where I’m standing, you’re the one who should be worrying.”
“Give me some credit. I know that I’m not a good person, but I like thinking that I can be a decent friend.”
“The only thing I trust humans with is dying when you shoot them.”
“How can you be vulnerable with someone who has shut you out over and over?”
“Yeah, not buying it. What is it that you truly want?”
“You know, now I have to challenge you at a drinking game.”
“Absolutely not. Don’t even think about it.”
“...Maybe I just need a real break.”
“I’d say that it’s nice to meet you, but maybe the circumstances could have been more…ideal.”
“You can’t be serious! Don’t you see what’s at stake here?!”
“Oh Lord, you gotta be kidding me. This will take forever.”
“Have you tried telling them that? It’s easy to forget that not everyone grieves in the same way.”
“Look at you, showing some actual good taste. I’m almost impressed.”
“Let’s skip over you judging me and talk business. Will you or won’t you?”
“Don’t get funny ideas. I’m just choosing the lesser evil.”
“Oh yeah? So, what? Are you saying that my problems will miraculously fix themselves, if I talk about them?”
“Let’s bet on it. The winner gets to make the loser do one thing. Whatever they want, no limits.”
“You must be really bored if this is how you chose to spend your night.”
“Patience, [name]. I thought you liked surprises.”
“I really wouldn't do that, if I were you.”
“Anything you’d like to say to plead your case?”
