Favourite part of dipping into witchcraft is that there’s literally no rules cause it’s literally whatever you think helps the universe or yourself to meet your goals/wants
Like sure there are graphics of like “this is what candle colors mean” “this is what all the herbs mean” “this is what all the cards mean”, but you can just do what feels right, make shit up if it feels correct, it’s literally just about following intuition so your personal ideas of what the candle colors mean or whatever can be the total opposite of everyone else’s and you’re both correct
Anyways, I’m finally collecting all my witchy ideas of things into a notes app note for my brain :)

Just got done with a long week of Christian family staying with me which means I packed up my entire alter so they wouldn't ask questions 🙃 I can't believe I did it without cleansing or ritual either, so now I feel stuck as to how I should unpack and re-introduce my alter to my home
#OH and my wife broke the spell jar hanging from the door like 3 hours before the guests arrived#so there was crystals and herbs and glass shards everywhere and bad vibes#witchblr#secular witchcraft#witchcraft#witches#witch community

I like making a binding and banishing spell jar specifically for items that need the bad energy taken out. Leave the spell jar with the affected item(s) until energy feels clear. Usually takes several days or weeks. You can also replenish the spell jar ingredients, sometimes I feel like there's only so much energy the ingredients can bind with, so it helps to renew. :)
Protection spells are utilized by witches to safeguard themselves and others from negative energy and harm. Here are a few examples:
Circle of Protection: This spell involves creating a circle of salt or herbs around oneself or a specific area to create a barrier against negative forces.
Shielding Spell: This spell requires visualizing a protective shield of light or energy around oneself to deflect any negative influences.
Warding Spell: By placing protective symbols or objects in a specific area, this spell prevents unwanted energies or entities from entering.
Banishing Spell: This spell removes negative energies or entities from a person or place by using incantations, herbs, or rituals.
Remember, it is important to use these spells responsibly and with good intentions.

Candle Magic Beyond Colors
A lot of people talk about color correspondences with candles, but a candle's potential in magic runs way deeper than that! Here's a list of things I don't see people mention as much:
Loading a Candle
Carve out a small hole in the bottom of the candle and stuff it with herbs, a name, whatever else you want to "fill" the candle with.
Carvings
Etch sigils, symbols, names, and other things into the candle before burning! (I like the idea of writing my problems/worries onto the candle then watching as they burn and melt away.)
Dressing a Candle
Much like loading a candle, mix your herbs in an oil or have a pre-made magical oil ready to cover your candle in before lighting.
Reversals
Chop off the top of the candle, flip it upside down, and carve a new wick out of the bottom (now top.) This is a good way to inverse its symbolism!
Shape of Candle/Container
Not all candles are little cylenders. Candles shaped like pyramids, spheres, hearts, skulls, or animals can all have those correspondences taken into account as well.
Life of the Flame
Some candles are meant to only burn for a short period of time then be blown out. (Like birthday candles.) Others are meant to burn continuously over multiple days (like yahrzeit candles or seven-day candles.) Others can be lit or extinguished as you please. Which one makes the most sense for your goals?
Burning or Beacon?
A candle flame is a light in the darkness, drawing things near. It's also literal fire which can burn away whatever it touches. Which one is your candle trying to do, burn out something undesired or serve as a beacon for what you DO desire? Plan accordingly.
Read the Wax
Always a classic, you can read the shapes made from the wax once the spell is complete to get a gage of how things went/are going. Followup information is always good and can tell you a lot!!

I've been underutilizing binding spells for overcoming executive dysfunction. Studying, housework, appointments, work, whatever. Bind bind bind.

I LOVE doing witch bookwork at the library!! I use herbal books to transcribe information to my grimorie, but you can also usually print pretty cheap at the library so I use the time to print, cut, and paste images and diagrams for the grimorie as well.
Quick witch tip:
Visit your public library!! This is something I’ve been pushing for years, even more now that I work at one. There’s lots of reasons to do it. Libraries are a treasure drove of information, all for free! Books on cooking, herbs, nature, astronomy, sewing and more. And most libraries will have an occult section. Libraries also often host workshops and classes. Meet the cool people around you! The sharing of free knowledge is witchy as hell and helps your community. And when you visit the library, you help us. More people coming in means more funding and more ways we can help the community. Hope to see you witches soon! 🔥♥

Being a witch trying to research with books is just like:
"no"
"that's blatant misinformation"
"this guy was exposed as a nazi"
"no"
"that's historically inaccurate"
"this person was exposed as a terf"
"no"
"oh something I can use-"

Dismantling spell jars can be done any way preferred! So here is my advice. First of all, if you've reached a point of feeling that you may want to dismantle a spell jar/spell jars, consider the reasons why and if these reasons are going to be beneficial to you and your journey. For instance, if the reasons may be for a temporary or short term situation you may just need to charge/cleanse your spell jars. Refer to any of my other spell jars' posts for cleansing/charging info.
Dismantling spell jars is a sad time, though it is a hopeful time of new beginnings that follows in my opinion. So if you've gotten this far, it seems perhaps that you may want to dismantle a spell jar or two, or three, or all of them, to start over, or make another if you may be feeling seasonal. It is important to gratify each spell jar as you say goodbye and part ways with them, although not forever. To dismantle a spell jar, you will have to pry each lid open, and empty all of the ingredients into the trash outside, or the trash meant for outside. Both work just fine. Gratitude, again for what these spell jars have done for you is more than significant to you and your journey, and trusting the magick of these spell jars don't stray too far; they are transmuted into the spirit with the trust of time and space and your deepest most inner heart of hearts. Practical magic works the best and goes the longest way, especially if you may be on a tight budget when it comes to finances. Once you've emptied the spell jars, toss the spell jars out too if you wish, or cleanse them and clean them out physically if you wish to reuse them for future spell jars. Once you've tossed them out, take time to mourn the physical loss of these spell jars. Lord knows we all need it. Once you feel ready to begin again, you will be.
