esoteric form of roleplay where instead of actually roleplaying you just make up characters together and discuss in abstract how they'd interact and how their story would go

"I love you," caretaker whumper whispered into the crook of whumpee's neck.
"if you loved me, you'd let me go,"
they breathed in whumpee's sent. "Never,"

Caretaker is huge and a little scary. One day they move too fast and whumpee cringes, covering their face with their arms.
Caretaker's eyea widened. How long has whumpee been this scared of them?
Caretaker kneels and wraps their arms around whumpee.
"I'm sorry." Whumpee whispers.

characters recognising a doppelganger/evil twin/shapeshifting imposter because they know the original so well is such a good trope

when whumper is untouchable
powerful. a king, a general, a noble. they have the world’s resources at their fingertips
beloved. rich, connected, influential. adoring fans who will rip you to shreds if you say a word against them
superpowered. hyper-intelligent, massively destructive, or a mind controller. the game is just too easy for them
an unstoppable force. a giant, a dragon, a god. an army couldn’t stop them. what are you going to do?
when the odds are stacked against you and you know it won’t be over until one of you is dead

Defiant whumpee but they've already had the shit beat out of them
"you're just gonna stand there and appreciate your work, huh?"
"am I pretty now?"
They were screaming "fuck you!" And got punched every time till they didn't have the breath to speak. Now it's just a very quiet "just suck a dick, would you?"
whumper just has gotten in the habit of slapping them for talking because it's probably insults
Saying "yes master" and waiting till whumper can't see to roll their eyes or give them the finger
Resistance via silence, because they have no energy to speak anymore
Their instinctive sass now includes a flinch reflex
"are you done?" Whumpee says and then cringes
"are you done?" Whumper says and waits for whumpee to say something that will earn them another kick
"I think we both could use a break, don't you think?" Whumpee groans.
Whumpee adds on a "sir" whenever they say anything that might get them punished
"yes, patience is clearly your best quality... Sir."

Pet whumpee's ownership transferring from a sadistic whumper to a carewhumper.
Carewhumper fits them with a new shock collar & Whumpee is terrified. But then Carewhumper only uses light shocks to correct unwanted behavior & praises Whumpee for how quick they are to learn. "It's so nice how you never even make me use the higher settings :)"
Carewhumper notes how well Whumpee responds to affection and praise, so they make sure to shower Whumpee with it, especially when Whumpee is clearly uncomfortable or struggling with a task.
Carewhumper using gentle encouragement where pet's previous owner was cruel. Pet slowly getting used to this strange style of ownership, but never taking it for granted. They start automatically seeking out Carewhumper's reassurance whenever they're nervous or upset.
Carewhumper is very happy to hold them and pet them and tell them how good they're being.

A dagger is stabbed roughly into whumpee’s hands, through one and then the other, pinning them down. They are so shocked at first, the pain almost doesn’t register. Their eyes are wide and terrified, a small amount of blood trickles down their wrists. But then the pain hits and it takes their breath away. The pain is sharp, searing, then a deep, dull throbbing sensation. And they feel sick, deeply and horribly sick and stuck. So stuck. They debate pulling at the blade, but it is so deep in the wall that they cannot dream of it. Whumper just laughs as they approach, their hand grab at the blade’s handle, wiggling it lightly to see whumpee’s reaction. To see the jerk, the tears, hear the cry as they try to make the pain go away somehow, anyhow. “Please, please, please-“

hello character who is desperate to be a good person; i want to play a game. in front of you is the one person you will never be able to save. you have the rest of your life to make peace with this. there are no defined repercussions if you fail, but we both know you're going to attempt to win regardless. your time starts now

tw; dehumanization, disassociation, aftermath of conditioning
whumpee who’s just.. blank after. staring off, quiet like the dead.
they don’t only not speak unless spoken to, they don’t speak unless they’re asked a question. They could be having a conversation, and even then their answers are barebones and vague enough to not get them hurt. and as soon as caretaker says something that’s not a direct question, whumpee doesn’t answer.
they sit there in the back of the room silent. caretaker forgets they’re there sometimes. maybe they start panicking if their nose is clogged or their breathing is audible for some reason, because they can’t stop making noise.
their eyes are dull. they’re exhausted, nearly always disassociated or derealized, not focusing on their body or the world around them because they expect the people around them to pay as much attention to them as they would an object.
they don’t understand when people talk to them. they don’t react unless someone says their name like an order.
the way they talk is always vague enough that it could agree with whatever the person who’s talking to them says. they are hesitant to take any real stance. maybe they seen confused when someone asks them what they want.
they never really get comfortable with talking again. not the same way they were before.

Rescued Whumpee breaking down because they're so frustrated with themselves. They're out, they're save, they shouldn't be like this anymore.
And yet, that sound, that word, that situation, that name, whatever it is, it sends them right back to the start, like they haven't made any progress at all.
They can feel it, the panic creeping up on them, their mind slowly going back there. They can't stop the tremors in their hands, or their breath coming too fast, their heartbeat picking up. They know they're out, but they can't stop this.
The frustration and anger turning into exhaustion. After screaming and throwing something at the wall, they just collapse and start sobbing. They shouldn't be like this anymore.
Why won't it just go away?
