Look at him!! <333
I love this scene, and he looks so good here. I'm actually super happy you chose this moment too, cause the flowers on his dress is the first huge symbolism of the future actually.
Thank you!!! 😊
Uncensored on twt and pillowfort
Absolutely gutted to know I only have 7 chapters left until I’ve finished reading one of my now all-time favourite fan fictions. @asmallmoon333 you are a supreme talent.

Oh my god this is gorgeous. I've been staring at every one of them and they're just so good. Thank you so much!!! 😭😭
The details on each one!! I can't decide where to focus on so I'm gonna talk about each one.
Stairs 😭😭😭There's something so haunting about the lines of their bodies, the black and white sets such a good tone. And Light's clenched fist!
Light on his way to 60 years of loneliness. Can I call him a dumbass while still saying how good you drew him?? The mood, the faceless features yet still saying so much emotion 🙏🙏
L all alone in a wide world, but the perspective makes it seem like he's being watched from above. Which....yes. Amazing 🙏
I can't stop staring at this one, the chess game, the glass, L's shadowed figure beyond it, faceless but so present. He looks just like a monster, and Light's tension is shown so clear here in his fingers and hand
The real-but-false domesticity of this one. Light is holding onto his plan, his victory, but he doesn't look happy about it, while L is biding his time until they're both sleeping for good on that bed. Their games never stop do they?
Lawliet-sensei 😂😂👌👌Also I love how you draw everyone else as just shadows, with only L and Light having white definitions? It reflects how they see the world, with only the two of them mattering.
lmao
This is my favorite scene for eighth life!! The first hint of Misa, of more, of something bigger than them. And you putting her image right between them is just 👌👌
Shadow people around them once more, featuring L's kitty cap and mask. When I look at this I remember how they were both pretending not to speak, to look ahead, but are secretly speaking through touch between them
Tiny lawlight!! Light lost that one for real, baby L was sneaky hahaha. No matter the world, Light just can't ignore him in the rain. Absolutely the sweetest lifetime they had, the falsity of Fifth made true <3
And finally the combination of them! The first splash of color in their bodies and the strings, showing reality clearly while the rest were flat pages in a book, only dreams in a sense. Their poses, with Light looking down in sleep, while Misa is awake and looking up, with L dangling there, hidden from view, unable to do anything. Not to mention the White notebook!! Don't think I missed that detail!! (Also not sure if the stars behind them are meant to represent the lives Light doesn't remember, but either way I love the effect!!)
Beautiful work, thank you so much for enjoying my story and bringing it to life in your art <3333333
hello i recently read time speaks by aSmallMoon333 on ao3 (@asmallmoon333 on tumblr too) and i fell in love with the story... this is not my usual style but i decided to make a small fanart of it 🤍
(close-ups of each life under the cut)
they're in order from life 1 through life 10 (with the exception of life 7).

For me, the challenge in romance and happy endings in general has always been finding a situation in which two people could be happy, based on their definitions of happiness, without either person compromising on what matters to them most. And then writing towards that situation while letting the characters be who they are. For some ships, happy endings won’t work simply cause what the characters need and want and who they are at their cores conflict too deeply to compromise on. But for lawlight, that was never the issue; the two of them always matched, it was their situation and how they responded to it that was the source of their conflict. Plus a healthy heap of pride on both ends of course.
The trick for them was to put them in a setting where the consequences of their actions seemingly didn’t affect the world, letting them get all those emotions out and be as destructive as they wanted, while knowing there would be a “reset” at the end. With only the other permanently affected. Until they were finally left in a state where they had to focus just on the effects their actions had on themselves and each other. Until they could understand and admit what they really needed. (Then consequences made a reappearance and they had to put their newfound commitment to each other to the test.)
And Misa, in parallel to them, went on a similar journey, focused on finding out who she was, who she wanted to be, and what love and happiness were to her. Except in her case, consequences were everything, all the time, and she had to take each step with care rather than letting the world move her (like a pawn, if you will) until she became someone who could walk by herself and claim her own power.
It took 400k, but they finally got to the happy :3

A snippet (with some mini edits!) that I wrote for @darkkbluee who chatted with me about this AU! :D
["What are they doing?"
Matsuda looked up to see Aizawa had entered, his shoes still in his hand after getting through security. He was staring at L and Light, sitting close on their computers, with a row of spoons laid out before L. The detective was pointing at a rather deep one and seriously explaining something about jellies and their viscosity and the perfect method of ingestion. While the young woman, who Matsuda had expected to have a polite and tolerating expression considering she'd ignored L for a week (L must have done something to deserve it), was actually listening to the strange lecture very attentively.
"L is...explaining which spoons are best for which desserts," Matsuda said, feeling a bit awkward at the words. Well, at least they'd made up?
Aizawa's expression did something strange. For a moment he just stared at the pair, and then he shook his head and walked over to Mogi. He sat at his computer and didn't turn around again, bending to put on his shoes with the air of a man who was too jaded by life.
Matsuda turned back to the pair, the beautiful girl pushing her hair behind her ear as she tilted her head. L had moved onto the fifth spoon, a small one.
"For tea," Light said, before L could start. "It's the perfect curvature to mix in the sugar without splashing over the edge. You can also use it to balance sugar cubes, which interestingly sit perfectly within. Your logic for each is flawless, Ryuzaki."
L's mouth remained open for a moment, and then he stared at her with something very appreciative. "Yes. I knew Light-kun would understand." He put on frown. "So you must also understand, then, why what you did to me was so terrible. I have trauma now. That was my cake spoon."
Matsuda had no idea what Light had apparently done with the cake spoon, but Light's pleasant expression didn't change. "Seven spoons left Ryuzaki. Please keep that in mind next time, before you speak."
L stared for a moment, and then slowly reached out and covered the spoons, dragging them towards himself protectively. Light returned to her work.
Matsuda and the rest of the Task force remained quiet. ]
Hehehe >:3
Context 1: L calls Light either "Light-kun" in general, "Light-chan" when he's being an ass, and "Kira-chan" when he's feeling particularly gung-ho to risk his life.
Context 2: Light stabbed him with a spoon after L asked her if mass murder got in the way of her “womanly responsibilities” and if she got the urge more in certain times of the month.
To clarify, this did not piss Light off, she was kinda like "hah what a childish attempt to infuriate me your intellect fails to impress, L." Then she realized that she should react and get angry to prove she is not Kira and is in fact just a normal girl. As Kira would see through the attempt to anger her using sexism. Hence she stabbed him and the proceeded to ignore him for a week to "sell" her anger.
Of course, her Kira percentage went up anyway. RIP cake spoon.
Context 3: To make peace for the sake of the investigation (and not because he missed talking to her or anything) L approached her with an armful of spoons.
The man's risking his life for real.
Another Death Note AU I love to think about: Fem!Light x Male!L.
I adore these two in any form, but the potential of this dynamic in particular had me thinking plots that had my brain noodles excited since way back when I was in the middle of writing Time Speaks.
Now, L's gender wouldn't change anything about him, not really, but Light? Oh, it would be a whole new act for her to put on. And with L still male, it ensures it's not just a repeat of canon, but a whole new exploration of their characters, their dynamic, and the world they live in.
So in this AU, we have a Light Yagami who grew up in a society that told her she was lesser. That implied her gender was predictive of her place and abilities. But she wouldn't actually have a lot of anger about her gender I feel, since that goes against her natural feelings of superiority based on her intellect, so she'd just see it as the world being wrong as usual (rotten, if you will). She would look down on men for how easy they were to manipulate; not that anyone else would ever see these thoughts. Except Sayu, who Light raises with care.
Now, while said world would make it harder for her to rise up, Light is someone who gets what she wants and thrives on a challenge. She would use gender as her stepping stone, playing the "good girl" role to perfection.
And she'd be so very good at it. A much better manipulator than male Light.
Now, when she gets the Death Note, the story goes about the same at the start because Light Yagami is Light Yagami regardless.
Then in comes L, the first person who bested her, the first person she hates, and the plot changes. L is the only person, the only man, who looks at her and sees Kira. The only man who is deadpanned and blank to her "good girl" act and meets her provocation for provocation. Infuriating her every time they meet simply by being as smart as she is. By looking at her pointedly crossed arms, at her 'casual' forward-leaning posture, at her inviting smile--and blandly asking if her back hurts like his sometimes does.
How dare he.
How dare he see and value and fear her for her intelligence? He is certain she is Kira despite how aghast every other man and woman in her life is about the very idea of it.
They call L mad. Sexist. He ignores them and insists he's right, that no one else could be Kira but Light. That she's perfect.
And Light? She hates him for seeing through her. He scares her right back.
But she also can't stop herself from craving the acknowledgement.
The game between them would be so different and yet just as complicated this time, because while the two of them don't care about gender, they know this about each other, the rest of the world is not at their level and can't stop their bias about it. And Light uses that to her advantage; Kira will use any shield.
While L will do his best to strip her bare of all her lies.
So Light plays with the world's perceptions of womanhood in her war against L, using her 'weak' gender and 'need for protection' to manipulate the police against him. While L continues to pursue his Kira with a single-minded focus and certainty. He knows it's her.
But now he has to work even harder to prove it because no one is willing to listen to him. He has no proof, and in this universe, that means a lot more to the task force.
Light is smug about this, internally of course. She sweetly tells him to give up and start looking for the 'real' Kira.
L blinks at her and says he'll give up when she stops being a serial killer.
Light hates him.
But she also can't stop thinking about him. She can't stop revelling in how he sees her like no one else was ever willing to. And she eventually decides that she'll get him to give into her too, like she's gotten everyone else in her life. She'll make him admit he wants her, too. That he's human just like they all are, that he has feelings. (Just like she does).
She'll give him her attention in a way no one else has ever deserved. And L better appreciate it.
And after that? She'll kill him, of course.
She's Kira. She's pitiless. She plays to win.
But she might as well...enjoy L while he's here.
He's the only one she'd ever want to have in that way.
As for L? Well he's more than willing to play along, in any and all ways Light wants. He's seen her from the start, seen Kira behind her sweet smile, and he's entranced by her as always. He'd want her in any form, and gender is just one more tool of the brilliant mind he'll always be obsessed with, in any universe.
And he's absolutely thrilled at this game.
So, yeah!! I love this AU and one day, I'll write it, but for now thank you to the amazing artist @thanatelle who inspired these current thoughts! His work is so good <3
Fem!Light and Male!L are so very fun.

I've actually thought about this myself! The idea of predetermined fate and what Death Note implies about it. It brings up so many questions about humans and their relationship with 'destiny,' death, and even the shinigami.
After thinking about it a bit, in the end I headcanon that fate is not actually set in stone in DN. Instead, I think all humans do have an "end date" and that can't be changed by human intervention (only if a Shinigami sacrifices itself for you like Rem/Gelous) but the way in which they reach that date and what causes their deaths can vary greatly depending on the choices of those around them.
And in the event that no outside force intervenes, they'll just die "naturally." (After all in Another Note, B made a point of saying his victims would have died anyway, he's seen it before, he just made himself the 'cause' this time. Although granted Another Note isn't "canon" so who knows.)
Personally I lean on the side of free will existing, so I like to think humans can die before their end date (even without the death note causing it). I've got nothing to support this, except maybe that the Death Note itself falling should have also been predicted by 'fate' in that case. And everyone who died by it should have been predicted to die by it.
Of course, this isn't strong proof in any way and as OP said might just prove that only DN users or the DN itself are outside of fate. We don't know, but it's fun to think about!
in the death note universe, when no death notes are involved, humans’ lives are completely predetermined (so they have no free will). however, a death note causes people to die earlier, which means that the predetermined set of future events is altered, so clearly death note usage is not predetermined in this manner. this implies that kira (+ other death note holders) is the only person with free will. in this essay i will

Doing things you like is not a waste of time. Watching series, playing video games, listening to podcasts, being creative etc. If it makes you happy, it doesn't matter that you're not productive during that time, what matters is that you are enjoying yourself, generating happiness. Those are the BEST moments. Chilling, relaxing, having fun. Don't let people guilt you into not enjoying the best parts of your day.
