Ah not everyone in the Village is dismissive of my art, it's mostly just the Rito warriors. They're kinda just like that about anyone who isn't fighter or breaks the gendered social norms. You should hear what some of them say about Kass - I wish I had his ability to just let their comments roll off his feathers. Maybe it's something that comes with age.

The Village Elder, Mr Teba, is actually super supportive - he's the one who taught me how to draw in the first place, and assigned me this internship with Master Revali to help me develop my skills. I hope to some day be as good as some of the amazing Rito artists in history - like Master painter Nyra from Master Revali's time, who recorded a lot of our visual history of the Calamity.

What people do you know that might appreciate my drawings? I'm not very good just yet, but Milap did suggest once that maybe I should try doing commissions.

I’ve been wondering (but perhaps it has already been asked) do Rito ever ride horses? Or maybe other animals suitable for mounting? Have you ever tried to get on a horse?

Hello again, thank you for another interesting poser!

We do not have a history of domesticating riding animals in the way that Hylians have with horses or Gerudo have with sand seals, but I don't believe it would be impossible for a Rito to ride a horse. (Sand seals have been ridden by Rito for fun, of course. It's like shield surfing without a slope!) Being winged already makes us capable of long distance travel, and our reliance on agility over power in combat makes cavalry less feasible, especially in the rougher terrain we tend to inhabit. As a result, horses have never been integral to Rito life.

There are physiological issues as well: our center of mass is up in the chest, much higher than a Hylian's, and our legs are proportionally much shorter. The former makes riding anything—even Link's most stable Zonai contraptions—an unsteady affair, and the latter makes straddling a saddle difficult. You seem like a Hylian who is knowledgeable in this area; perhaps you'll come up with solutions to these problems!

I'd feel bad attempting to mount most horses due to my large stature. I believe Link owns a particularly large horse, however, so I'll let you know if I ever give riding it a try!

Are baby Rito born with or without feathers? Do you have any photos of when you were born?

There is quite a bit of variety in the state of newly hatched chicks! Most hatch with little to no plumage and eyes closed, but some Rito ethnicities tend to hatch with a coat of down feathers and open eyes. I suppose it is similar to the difference between young eyases and ducklings.

Unfortunately, photographic technology only persisted in the hidden away Sheikah Slate at the time of my hatching, so I have no baby photos. If the girls are any indication, though, I came out of the egg as bare as a Hylian!

What happened to your parents?

Ah, er...hmm. You sound a lot like a much younger Kass right now.

In truth, I don't know. The century following the Calamity was a tumultuous one. Rito village has since been the only continuously inhabited Rito settlement, and our oral records of any others have been mostly lost with the bards who perished.

I can pretty safely conclude by my features that my ancestry comes out of the southeast portion of Hyrule. Between that and my earliest childhood memories is a veil of lost history I cannot see behind.

You see, I was itinerant even in my youth. With no permanent settlements in the region, southern Rito flocks were always on the move, and I'd be passed from one flock to another, depending on which ones had the resources to care for me. I do not know which flock, if any, my parents belonged to...when it was that we were separated...whether or not they were even alive at the time.

But do not mourn for the likes of me; if you do, you'll never stop. There are many stories like mine from the past century if you ask around. As a bard and historian, collecting them all is both a joy and a burden.

What is your favorite memory with your former teacher?

Percy was not an openly affectionate man. I believe he was the kind of person who found it difficult to surface his innermost feelings. Not that he wasn't a loving guardian, of course; but he had his own ways of showing it.

I recall he once took us on a detour into Hebra to hunt for wildberries, just because he knew my favorite fruit would lift my spirits. We got turned around in some bad weather and had to shelter at one of the hot springs. While waiting there, he told me stories of the Rito explorers who had mapped the region and named the springs.

I could tell he was just trying to distract me from our predicament, but his tales were wondrous and his strategy worked! While many of my memories of him are warmed by the light of a campfire, my favorite is warmed by springwater instead.

What's with the two feathers on your earing? They don't look like they belong to any particular Rito, but they definitely are the size of a Rito's. Who's are they, and what significance do they have to you to wear them?

I'm sorry I don't have a more interesting answer, but it is simply somewhat standard minstrel headgear. We typically wear something tall and red to make us easier to spot in a crowd; take Mastro's hat, for instance. Mine is a clip with two heron feathers, dyed with the same red pigment I use on my cheeks.
