Okay so about Lexaeus...

Listen, guys. I see A LOT of posts in the Lexaeus Tag about Lexaeus beating a child to near-death (in order for him to learn about Limit Breaks, mind you) But I feel like no one ever really delves deeper into the rest of Roxas’s experience with Lexaeus in 358/2 Days. For Starters: In the original DS game after enduring almost every organization member (Saix, Larxene, Zexion, Marluxia, Xigbar, and ESPECIALLY Vexen) treating you like an absolute idiot (aside from Axel) you meet Lexaeus. Not only does this large, hulking monolith of a man have the patience to explain how to use the Limit Break without treating you like an imbecile he has the GALL to tell you that you are valued:

Which like…. BLOWS Roxas’s MIND to the point of him saying:

To which Lex bluntly responds:

And even in the manga he says:

(In the actual American release he says that they’d beg him for 3 days and 3 nights if it meant having Roxas on their team)

But that Manga panel about him “Becoming passionate” is something that holds true in the game. When Roxas asks why they are trying to complete Kingdom Hearts, Lex looks wistfully into the distance and says:

This poor fucking guy doesn’t even quite REALIZE what he’s doing… he just knows it will make him whole. That’s all he wants. It’s what ALL of them want.

and when your day with Lexaeus is done Roxas postulates:

or MY FAVORITE….. the original DS version:

[Our group had its good apples, just like it had its bad. But everybody wanted the same thing: to complete Kingdom Hearts.]

SO LIKE. LEMME BE REAL HERE: WHEN PEOPLE BOIL LEXAEUS DOWN TO A BIG, SMASHY MAN WHO BEATS CHILDREN I REALLY WANT TO CRY BECAUSE HE’S ACTUALLY A BIG, PATIENT, SOFT BOY WHO WANTS ROXAS TO KNOW THAT HE’S VALUED AND JUST WANTS TO BE HUMAN AGAIN AND DO HIS JOB. 

(And don’t even get me STARTED on Lexaeus picking up odd jobs that the other team members put onto him when they slack off.) Lexaeus/Aeleus is the real MVP of the Kingdom Hearts series and I genuinely love him to pieces.

HEY GUYS IT’S ME.

I’M BACK BECAUSE IT’S BEEN A WHILE AND I NEVER REALIZED HOW MUCH THIS POST BLEW UP SO OKAY LIKE. I wanted to post a few more things in here because a buddy of mine recently said to me that he didn’t understand why I love Lexaeus/Aeleus so much and went on to say that there is so little to glean from his character and is kinda basically a blank slate. SO IMMA GO ON AND TURN THIS POST INTO A BIG LONG ONE ABOUT WHY LEXAEUS/AELEUS IS THE BEST/MOST UNDERUTILIZED HEROES OF THE KH UNIVERSE AND NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW THIS BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO LEGIT DIG FOR ANY MENTION OF HIM:

Let’s pick up from 358/2 Days.

So okay I’ve already shown that even as a Nobody Lex was the first person in 358/2 to not treat Roxas like a complete idiot but to ALSO complement him:

Well so I’d like to swing back really quick to Chain of Memories where Lex not only offers some kind of sound advice to Riku (because as we’ve learned it isn’t until Riku overcomes his fear of the Darkness that he can learn to control it and balance it with the light to realize his full potential)

ALSO AS AN ADDED BONUS I DO WANT TO ADD THAT LEX WAS ONE OF THE ONLY ORG XIII MEMBERS TO WIN AGAINST RIKU:

BEFORE DYING AT THE HANDS OF ANSEM SEEKER OF DARKNESS POSSESSING RIKU AS HIS VESSEL.

WHERE HIS LAST WORDS WERE ASKING ZEXION FOR FORGIVENESS FOR STARTING A FIGHT WITH RIKU.

But hey! I get it. I can hear you now!  “So what?? He hit some kid and then died? Big whoop” Hold up there, bud, there’s something you might not have noticed about Lex. His moral compass that still stayed somewhat intact. He did what he was ordered to do. This can be cross referenced back to 358/2 in this little dialogue:

He knows that he and the rest of them need to get their hearts back. He is smart enough to know that he might not be fighting for the right side and he’s not shy to admit that to Roxas.

ANOTHER little tidbit from KH2 is the fact that it seems like everyone knows Lex to be the responsible one to take on the jobs that no one else seems to.

I’ll come back a little later I think once KH3 has settled a bit and go further into Aeleus. I’ll admit that it’s harder to find stuff for him and much of it involves reading between the lines but THERE’S SOME GOOD GOOD LEXAEUS MATERIAL HERE AND I HOPE YOU ALL LOVE HIM JUST A TINY BIT MORE BECAUSE OF IT.

I’ve been wanted to do some artworks of the original Organization’s eyes for a while now, and seeing @heliosdraws’s take on all of them inspired me to actually start drawing this set of my own!

It was neat to see the uniqueness of all their eyes for this, both in color and in shape.

I never really noticed how a bunch of them have blue eyes, but they are still all different shades of blue. (Except for Xion and Roxas of course)

I mean… I totally could have done the new organization instead… but there wouldn’t have really been as much variety there… considering…

Day 4: Lexaeus

*slams fists on table* GET U A MAN WHO CAN DO BOTH, HONESTLY

also it’s 2018 I’m snatching everyone’s hair gel for this challenge, *looks at Axel* but yea! Lex was actually pretty fun to figure out because while his is quite cunning for his size, i also feel like if he left the org today he’s be happy working on shitty cars in a Wisconsin garage somewhere, ALSO HE BUILT LIKE A POWERLIFTER which is a nice break from the starved models that is literally everyone else in the organization, not that im complaining ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
