I really should open up mod apps, shouldn't I?

I'm sorry I've been neglecting this, everyone. It just got overwhelming and all my other mods disappeared into the ether.

Mod jobs would be things like:

Help find and make/upscale flags

Help organize the Deviantart and MEGA folder

Answer asks (there's so many oops)

Work with requesters to create new flags. Or work on simplifying flags with copyrighted images/photos on them

Work on flag requests

Post flags on the Deviantart and pride-color-schemes

Delete troll comments/asks and block anyone causing problems

??? probably some other stuff

Not necessary to be able to do all of these things. Just help in some areas would be great!

To apply as an "official" tumblr mod or deviantart uploader, we'd have to vet you since it's very hard to remove people from the tumblr/DA. Discord helpers we won't have to be as thorough with.

Some requirements:

No general bigotry obviously: No racism/misogyny/queerphobia/ableism/classism/anti-kin/anti-kink/etc

Pro Palestine, anti-genocide

Supportive of all queer/mogai identities including: bi lesbians, neurogenders, kingenders, multiple genders, conflicting genders/orientations, a-spectrum

18+ and good conflict resolution skills

For tumblr/discord mods have an extensive blog presence we can look through to vibe check

Idk just don't be an exclusionary bigoted jerk who's hard to talk to

I don't even remember if I had any part of it so you can just credit funcatty. The term was coined around that time, within a few days of the flag creation.

to further drive home a point made in another post that i reblogged earlier: mocking gay men & people who use the blue and green gay man flag by calling it the "toothpaste" flag and acting like this is a tumblr exclusive thing makes you look ridiculous. this is not a case of a flag for an obscure gender identity that only exists on this website:

this absolutely floods the search results on google because guess what: this is the flag for gay men. this is not something you can just ignore and act like it's not a legitimate thing. i'm not saying that this is a good thing, but for fuck's sake, there are gay man flags being sold on amazon. there is literally a wikipedia entry for the flag. this is a legitimate flag that you need to accept that people are allowed to proudly fly.

i don't care if you think it's ugly. it's not about the appearance and you know it isn't. this is about punching down on queer men and we've had enough of it. it's sad and it makes anyone denying gay men the right to use this flag look like an absolute fucking idiot. like seriously, if you mock gays who use this flag, you look like an absolute fucking dumbass. wake the fuck up, look at the world around you. gay men all across the globe have adopted this flag.

So there's a thing where a bunch of countries have national variants of the rainbow pride flag, right?

Like, they'll combine their nation's flag (or some national symbol) with the rainbow stripes. The Brazilian one haunts me to this day but that's a long story. They're usually done in a quite lazy manner, cause it's not really something you can do super well and not many people try.

I still think it's really funny that the "toothpaste"/"listerine" flag I (partially?) made back in 2016 based off an anon's suggestion took off and had so much discourse over it. Because I literally had NO idea about it until years later when I stumbled upon it randomly (iirc) because nobody said anything to my face about it ever. Even now I don't think anyone has said anything to me outside of direct responses of posts I made about it.

Like there's literally everyone across every spectrum of everything either loving or hating the flag for completely different reasons, some of which aren't even remotely true. But somehow it almost never reached me.

I'm just here playing in my mud pit trying to help people make and find flags and terms that make them happy while there's a whole war raging over (at least) one of them around the corner.

Anyway, I got burned out a while ago from making flags because people kept making like 100000 a day with photos and copyrighted images on them and I couldn't keep up so I don't know all the flags the youth are using anymore.

Anyway I just wanted to reiterate that I'm NOT a truscum. One of them took the flag and reuploaded it stating it was the "official" gay man flag and I guess that's when it exploded and people just assumed they made it?

I also still 100% support non-dysphoric/transitioning trans people, bi/pan lesbians/gay men, anyone with "weird" or "contradictory" labels, people with 500 genders or 0 genders or -62 genders, you can detransition, retransition, LMNOP-transition, you can change your sex but not your gender, you can reclaim your slurs, you can do whatever you want forever, just don't be an ass and for the love of cats stop making overly complex flags, they're supposed to be simple for a reason!
