“I-… I run errands is all. I’m his unofficial assistant, he has done me a favour in that area, he’s kept me out of the pits… and alive. If ghouls ask him for help, he sends me. A-and I sometimes… assist with any rituals… since.. I still have some remnant energy inside of me.. from my.. difficult summoning, but that’s different.” They said, not wanting to acknowledge that they were definitely being used for rituals, going through a painful process just to make the ritual a little easier on whoever is carrying it out.
“I’m sorry again, Miasma… It was wrong of me to assume the worst of you.”
Driven by an insatiable curiosity, Miasma had maintained a discreet surveillance of Maple ever since their aggressive encounter at the church. He noticed Loch engaging with Maple for conversation despite her awful association with Sister Imperator, and a familiar sensation stirred within Miasma's chest. It was the irresistible pull of temptation, a feeling he had long since stopped bothering to resist since gaining his wings. If God would grant him something closer to Him despite his actions, maybe it wasn't necessarily temptation, but God directing him instead.
As Loch strolled through the halls, a subtle wave of heat washed over their back, followed by a bright, momentary flash of light. A voice spoke from behind, and Loch turned to see a ghoulish yet angelic figure. Wings of a blend of black and white tucked neatly behind his back, a black and gold cassock draped around him.
"What are you hanging around her so much for?" Miasma asked, expecting them to know exactly what he was talking about.
"She's bad news."
@ask-miasma-ghoul
Loch swiftly turned around, their tail flicking as they noticed the intimidating look on the new figure’s face.
“I’m sorry. I don’t know you, furthermore, I don’t know what you’re talking about. If you want to inquire about the ministry and clergy, I can lead you to Frater Copia.”
They said, seemingly completely unaware, simply reciting the proper ghoul protocol.
Loch had seen the incident report, what happened between Miasma and Maple. They had seen who Miasma was. In a desperate urge to stay relevant to the ministry, Loch had ensured to be up to date on all accidents and potential risks towards the clergy and Frater, it just so happened to be that Miasma was quite high on the list of risks.
Loch completely knew why Miasma was here, so they used it to their advantage. Copia had requested them to call upon Miasma, so their presence is awfully convent.

“That is… unfair of her…” They muttered, thinking everything through. “I’m sorry, I should have been more fair myself. Instead of listening to all the rumours, there’s enough about myself, I should have known…” Their apology was heartfelt, and genuine. All of the rumours about themself was about their inability and uselessness, it was painful for Loch, they felt bad that they made someone else feel in that way too.
“Frater is… S-Sister was.. cruel, and deceitful. But Copia… he- he is kind, he was kind. Maybe not so much anymore, but he was.” They said carefully. Accidentally loosing the title, showing their vastly decreasing respect and admiration for him.

“Sister… also tormented you…? But, if you’re so good, why is Maple so angry at you? Why is Frater so concerned at your presence?”
They asked gently. Not surprised at Sister’s endless rampage

Loch leaned away from Miasma’s hand on their back, concerned and frightened by the sudden switch up.
“What’s going on? What are you doing? You come in here all crazed and ready to attack, and now… you’re offering me a safe space? I’ve seen the file on you, I’ve heard people’s accounts of you, you aren’t like this. You’re violent, a murderer, not someone who comforts.” Loch’s words were calm and decided, the quintessent had clearly worked, but they were choosing to ignore that, ‘it was simply their own choosing to be so calm’.
“You are supposedly very powerful and dangerous, the only reason you are paying me any of your time is because of Maple. So why this sudden change?” Loch really wanted to believe Miasma had seen their soul using the quintessent, they had seen the loneliness and sadness, and maybe, just maybe they were being nice after seeing Loch’s inner self..?

It was an uncomfortable, forced feeling, but Loch’s panic just wouldn’t happen, they couldn’t freak out. This had happened before.. with one of sister’s ghouls, but it didn’t feel like this, Loch didn’t feel as open, and vulnerable.
They let out a strangled hiss, it’s as if the quintessence was trying to keep it in.
“What is this… what the fuck are you doing..?” They talked slow and carefully, but their voice was filled with venom
“Stop. Stop this… Maple and I, we only talked about the incident… nothing else.. stop..” Their speech was slow and drowsy, while this feeling was uncomfortable, it was mainly the painful memories that Loch wanted to stop the most, this was too similar to Sister’s personal ghouls… he has same cruelty in his eyes, Loch could see it, the need for control raging deep in Miasma’s pupils.

“I am sorry. Chain sounds lovely, I am… unable to meet other ghouls frequently. But- he-… Frater is…” Loch struggled with any rebuttal. It had been a while since they had spoken with any other ghouls except Maple, who was a chance encounter, they had recently been restricted access to other ghouls… at first they thought it was simple procedure… but, they’ve been very isolated recently.. maybe that was the purpose- No. Loch mustn’t question Frater, he saved them.
“Although I sympathise. I cannot allow you so speak in such a way regarding my higher. I must ask you to leave.” The mention of Sister Imperator, the acts of Frater Copia, had Loch’s mask slipping quickly. While they managed to slip back into it, it truly felt like it was being held together with hopes and dreams.
Their tail flicked suddenly against the floor, enunciating their point. The mist continued to seep out their skin, sinking into a small ocean of mist around their feet.

“You knew we were talking, you should be able to tell what about. She was civil, it was impressive considering the circumstances.” Loch said, with obvious judgement. The confident front they were putting up, was working wonders, but Loch knew it was sure to fall if… certain topics were mentioned, they could only beg their master for courage.
“Oh, and Miasma, please don’t worry yourself over my work, or over Frater, in fact, you don’t need to think of Frator at all, considering your track record, I do not want anything bad to come his way, he is kind.” While the intention of the statement was to jab at Miasma, and take the offensive, a pang of fear shot through Loch. What if Miasma was truly here to harm Frater, they couldn’t let that happen. After all his kindness.
Loch’s tail flicked slightly faster than before, a slight mist seeping from the skin that not confined by clothing, a clear sign they were slipping.

“You expect me to answer questions following an insult? You are not welcome here Miasma. You are a risk. You are lucky you are still inside, and yet you still decide to be rude.” They broke the formal, perfect persona within seconds as they realised Miasma was not going to follow along.
“I am not the same as any other ghoul in this building. I don’t suck up, I just don’t enjoy it when a stranger appears behind me and threatens me with their eyes.” Loch said, with such resolve that even they were internally surprised. Normally, they would have never dared to speak to someone of this level of power in this way, but something about watching that tape, the desperate way Maple and Miasma fought against it each other, it made Loch feel significantly less afraid of Miasma, they were just a ghoul after all.
“You can ask me a proper question, come with me to Frater Copia, or leave.”

In the wave of guilt Loch felt from all this, they put their arm around her awkwardly, in their attempt to comfort
“ I’m sorry you had to go through bad things.”
Maple was sitting in her room, attempting to reach the top shelf after not finding her stepping stool when she saw a new face(at least to her)
She looked out her door and up at the tall woman before going back in her room, choosing to try to get back to what she was doing before the ghoulette was in her doorway, she jumped slightly
"You startled me-" Maple chuckled, her hand over her chest. "I don't think I've seen you at all before!" Maple says, looking up at the other
@ask-mapleghoul
They looked at her, their eyes wide, they weren’t used to the ghouls in this wing speaking to them, they never really stayed around long enough to hear it.
“Oh I- I apologise..” They muttered, slowly looking down, noticing the significant height difference, as they realised they were staring, their face turned a little red.
“I erm.. I’m Loch. And you’re Maple.” They said for her, not letting her introduce herself.
“I- I noticed you had difficulty reaching the shelf, I can help?” They offered, their words came out as if it a struggle, very clunky, and not natural sounding at all.
