[Hi, I’m still up to my bullshit, just not on this blog. Go follow my generic GC fanblog where I bump other peoples’ art and scream more about the stupidest decision for a fave my brain could have ever latched on to.]

I wanted a good reference for Baldinar (바르디나르 / ヴァルディナール )— so I made one myself!! I made it modular so I can turn the different parts of his outfit on and off! I’m probably going to have to make a separate reference for his shoes on the side, though.

I talked through figuring out his outfit with a friend of mine who’s a fashion major, and we struggled to figure out what the hell was going on until we realized he’s wearing a white undershirt with a black vest (with coattails), with a clipped on overshirt (with turtleneck), all under that capelet of his.

All in all, his outfit is absolutely ridiculous. I love it.

Hiya! Apparently I’m back now!

You’ll notice that I have a twitter signature now, and that’s because I have a twitter that I posted about a while back where I post my dumb fanart! I’ve been drawing a lot of this idiot sandwich, so I’ll probably pop up some of that when I have the chance. For now though, enjoy this on your eyeballs!

Anyways, I was bored and really wanted to draw this dumb idiot! I decided on a whim to try my hand at redrawing/slightly reimagining one of the official pages from the Grand Chase Dimensional Chaser cut scenes. Baldinar (or 바르디나르 / ヴァルディナール ) is such a fun guy to draw. If you know the plot, this Baldinar’s kind of an illusion, but also maybe kind of not, so I wanted to evoke that in the last panel. Especially if you know who has his body right now! I couldn’t find the font, so I used the original text.

You’ll notice I reframed and reposed Baldinar in a few of my panels, because he framing and pose struck me as very awkward in the original. The last panel of the original is my favorite, though! (Screenshot acquired from the Grand Chase Wiki)

I also attempted something new with my colors on this. While I was primarily going for doing this all in my style, I’ve always admired the colors of the original Grand Chase, so I tried my best to evoke some of that style in the painting and blending of this piece.

◈Baldinar had lost track of how long it had been since his last body had been wiped away like dust in another failed attempt at his plans. Months? Years? Weeks? All he knew was that now, with a body not-quite all there and not-quite strong enough to carry out the brunt of his efforts for a third time (glutton for punishment as he was), he was bound to wandering the dimensions like a lost little dog. There were worse things he'd degraded himself to do, of course. Pretending to be a subject of Thanatos, his own creation, had been arguably worse than this experience, much as the dull numbness ate away at him. It wasn't the sort of consumption that the explosion of the hammer had been to his body, but it still felt like he was constantly being fed anesthesia.

◈Still, it was hard not to resent the situation, bound to a life much like the Highlander's Illusions he had revived at the summit of Kounat during his latest failure. Yes, he had a body. Somewhat. Yes, he could interact with things, like he could when his body was whole. Somewhat. The limits of his abilities had yet to be tested as a wandering immortal soul. But this situation was far from the ideal. Really, he could only cast basic spells, and much of Ashtaroth's muscle memory from weilding a sword was awkward with this body he had gotten so detached from. His swordplay as the wandering phantom, Baldinar, had a lot to be desired in it. He needed a new body.

It was in an attempt to find his way to a body for this purpose to borrow that he came across the spell knight. Blue hair, eyes, a sword that glittered with magic? Of course there was no mistaking him for anyone but Ronan Erudon, whom Baldinar had fought with in the body of Ashtaroth a handful of times. Wasn't this the same worm that he had tried to kill along with Existor and the Violet Mages? The memory was hazy, much like the feeling in his fingertips, but-- yes-- if he squinted and focused on it, he could remember clearly. This was that boy he tried to kill, but some other idiot had gotten in his way and taken the fatal blow instead.

A cold smirk pulled at the phantom's lips. This boy was not a worthy vessel of his soul-- no, most certainly not. But he had memories and connections that Baldinar could tug at like the cords of a puppet. If he found himself bored or in danger, a quick retreat wouldn't be too hard. But there were wounds he could pick at. He needed a little entertainment. Besides, Ronan wouldn't recognize him as Baldinar… would he? Faintly, he seemed to remember seeing a face like the boy's back in Kounat, but that wouldn't make sense. It's not like the kid could time travel, right?

◈Either way… this would be fun.
