what call sign/petnames from my country (Philippines) would I give to the hnl boys
Hanaoka Fujio - Ga/Pangga
Ga or Pangga is not really tagalog but from the dialects ilonggo (ilocos) and batangenyo (batangas). It is used as a term of endearment to your significant other, like babe, darling, or love.
And since fujio came from like the countryside or like a provisional place, I gave him Ga/Pangga because both Ilocos and Batangas are considered as provinces here in the Philippines and it only fitted I gave him this petname
I think Fujio would like to keep to call you something dear to his heart or something that reminds him of home since you are his home as a person, so I think he would choose this pet name to call you
Takajo Tsukasa - YAM
YAM is an acronym for "you are mine," not really tagalog but a popular endearment here in the Philippines
Now, tsukasa came from like a village or subdivision or wtv, so I don't really see him using a very native pet name. Instead, he would use a very trendy or modern pet name
Tsukasa really likes to play his feelings lowkey, and it goes the same to his possessiveness, so he would choose to call you this while still being bit possessive but not obvious
Todoroki Yosuke - Ssob
Once again, not really really tagalog since it is just 'Boss' but backwards, it is really popular here in the Philippines whether you call this someone to a friend or a significant other
I don't really see todoroki using a petname, so instead, I can really see his significant other call him this since he is pretty bossy and grumpy and this nickname or petname is usually given to someone who is exactly like todoroki
Tsuji and Shibaman - Lods
Lods is another term that is backwards and not tagalog, lods is idol backwards, but they removed the "I" and added the "s"
now since both tsu and Shiba came from kinda like the city instead of like a province, so I can really see them calling you a more trendy or modern pet name
"Lods" is usually used when someone is admired or looked up, hence the name, and it is more used as a friendly or teasing way, but it can be used as a pet name, and now both tsu and Shiba want to treat their significant other as both their best friend and lover, so I gave them this call sign/petname
Ueda Sachio - Asawa ko
"Asawa ko" translates to "my spouse" in English. It is a tagalog phrase
Many times, I have established that Sachio is sucker for domestic things or married couple shenanigans since he seems so family oriented or husband coded, so this is just perfect for sachio
I originally planned "misis ko" (or "my wife" in eng) because of this one famous actor here in the Philippines, Daniel Padilla, he called his leading lady this pet name in the movie "Can't help falling in love" (would recommend it but you gotta watch it with subtitles since it is 70% tagalog) and my mind just immediately thought of sachio
Odajima Yuken - Tangi
Tangi is a tagalog word that means 'special', 'only', 'exceptional', and many more
I can really see Yuken use this even though he probably grew up in a "very modern" or "Well off" environment
Yuken would call you this since like the the meaning of the word "Tangi", you are his special person, his one and only, the person that he would drop everything for just say it, so the call sign fits Yuken
Sawamura Shoji - Sinta/Aking sinisinta
Sinta is an old-fashioned word for love, and Aking Sinisinta basically means 'my love'
I have established multiple times in my blog that sawamura likes corny and cheesy yet meaningful stuff, so this is perfect for him, and like sachio, he is just so husband coded and mostly this pet name is used by spouses or long time partners already
Sameoka Shoji - Ligaya
The tagalog word 'ligaya' translates to happiness in English
Now we don't have Shoji's full background story yet, but from the way he acts, he has definitely been through something, like not everyone can be so stoic, but like every stoic character in hnl ypu just gotta break down his walls bit by bit to get to his well protected emotions
Like I said, shoji has been through something that we just don't know yet, and that something made him cold and guard his emotions, but him calling you ligaya, a word that literally translates to happiness, can only mean that he found his, once lost or hidden away happiness, he found or felt it around with you, "his ligaya"
Himuro Reiji - Akin
Akin is a tagalog word that translates to 'mine'
Now, like shoji, we don't really know reiji's backstory yet, so every hnl character, this man has issues, but unlike shoji and his stoic issues, this man has some sort of inferior issues, judging from his actions, bringing weapons to a fight (that counts as cheating), and his words, "winning is what counts that's all", he probably tried to play fair but still somehow he coudnt win and that gave him a harsh reality check, and that's where inferior complex comes from, on the surface he may just look like an arrogant piece of work but on the inside he's just threatened, he's scared because he knows that even if he tries to win, fair and square, something or someone will always come and take it away from him
This is where the pet name "Akin" comes in since he is threatened or scared. Those emotions lead to possessiveness and jealousy. You are HIS person, so he goes above and beyond to protect you, even as far as "cheating," though he doesn't just want to call you this because he's insecure he also calls you this because his proud and he want to show off that he can call a person like you his
Ryo Suzaki - Mahal/Hal
Mahal is a tagalog word that translates to love, and Hal is just a shortened version of it
Oh, Ryo, my baby, my precious boy, he would call you this because you are HIS definition of love, ever since he was a kid, he always thought that the meaning of love means devoting yourself to someone to the the point that you forget yourself in the process, but it was alright as long as he pleases the person he loves, right?
WRONG !!! And you have shown him that loving means that you don't have to devote yourself so much that you forget yourself just to prove that you love them. Loving means not forgetting yourself. Instead, it brings out the best version of yourself. Loving means that you can also love yourself in the process, and you have shown him that, and that's why you are his "Mahal," his definition of love

This is a work of fiction, and it is not meant to be a realistic representation of any real person mentioned in any way, shape, or form.
Unable to stay seated on his chair, your manager rises once more to announce, “Another round on me!” The spicy food he’d eaten earlier made itself shown on the perspiration on his nose, and his light blue shirt had grown a shade darker around his armpits.
At his declaration, a drunken wave of cheers and applause erupts from your table. The restaurant that your team had settled into this dinner for was clearly overwhelmed by your team’s size and presence. It was uncomfortably evident in the rushing staff and shouting happening in the kitchen.
You watch your manager pouring the contents of the all too familiar green bottle into the cups of the unfortunate employees seated around him and catch the restaurant owner behind the counter checking his watch for the hundredth time tonight.
Your attention is pulled away from your sweaty manager as Wooyoung stands, joining the manager to clink his glass with him for what you hope is the final round of the night. He knocks back the shot with a smile.
The air in the restaurant had become sticky with each passing hour, but when your eyes flickered to Wooyoung, who was sitting diagonally to you, your breathing evened out, filtering the grease of the food.
He had only joined your team some time back, but somehow had managed to get well-acquainted with your own co-workers better than you. His toothy smile, bewitching laughter, and exuberant personality did wonders for the team, and admittedly, you’d been initially weary of his addition.
He had no problem sharing what embarrassing thing he’d done over the weekend in the breakroom, but the moment you walked in, his words would mutter to a pause. He had no problem flirtatiously intertwining his hands with your co-workers when they arrived to work in new clothing, but if you were standing in the elevator next to him, he silently shuffle further and further away from you.
You suppose you don’t make it easy. When you worked, you liked silence, slipping your noise-canceling headphones over your ears and tuning out the commotion of the office. You seldom came out to team dinners and ate lunch at your desk.
On the other hand, the company he invited was much like him; confident, courageous, and curious. He, like them, was open and willing to try everything. Someone from the floor tried the new Egyptian restaurant across the street? Wooyoung was eating their falafels by lunchtime. Your manager recommended rock-climbing at his gym? Wooyoung came in the following Monday morning with blistered and poorly bandaged fingers. Yunho from marketing went to a leather workshop across town? Wooyoung signed up for a class later that day.
But you? You were content with being just curious, and that too from a safe distance. You take your co-workers' recommendations with a grain of salt, instead choosing to be careful and always a little hesitant.
Not that you were cold. You decide reserved was a better word when your manager’s outstretched hand rounds back towards your end of the table. Taking a miniscule sip from your barely touched shot glass, your eyes flick back to Wooyoung, who happily downs yet another shot of the concocted mixture after clinking his glass to the co-workers next to him.
So things remained the same, but when he passes by your desk every morning with a dashing smile and a gentle good morning, your weariness is quick to melt into admiration.
You wanted to be Wooyoung’s friend, everyone did. Even still, reaching out on your part seemed strange; you’d never done it before, why start now?
“What do we say, team? How’s one more round sounding?” your manager asks, ready to call over the waiter for more alcohol. The inebriated crowd can only shout in joy at the prospect. The semi-professional attire everyone had arrived in had been tugged and prodded as the night proceeded and all that remained was loosened ties, flushed skin, and messied hair.
You inwardly groan. Of the work dinners you had attended, this had to be possibly the worst. Nonetheless, you send a tight-lipped smile when your manager scans your face for approval.
Work dinners weren’t common at TechTots Studios, but successfully closing the first quarter had pleased the executive board so much so that when a springtime retreat was proposed, it had been approved later that same day. Normally, you’d pass on the opportunity and have an excuse loaded in the chamber, but this time, you had an ulterior motive.
While the city was full of life and a never-ending amount of things, stargazing wasn’t something that could be done without driving hours outside the city limits. With a long-awaited meteor shower taking place in the next couple of days, you couldn’t have asked for better timing.
While also being TechTots’ founder’s hometown, the mountainside village of Shinseong was hundreds of miles from the city. The town closest to Shinseong was an hour by an exhaustingly curving road, and there was little to no light pollution, with the closest thing to a hospital being a doctor operating out of their own home.
And while this would usually be a city-dweller's nightmare, those conditions were hand-crafted to be every star-gazer’s dream.
The restaurant owner’s giddy clapping draws your attention back to him, and he signals for the chefs to stop cooking.
Looking out the window, an embarrassingly large charter bus finally pulls into the parking lot of the restaurant, washing a wave of relief over you, ready to leave the progressively drunken mood created by your overly appreciative manager and the company card your supervisor had so graciously given your team.
Your manager spots the bus as well and straightens his clothing before calling out instead for the check.
Some time later, the team filters out of the restaurant and begins organizing their luggage. After stuffing your bags in the undercarriage of the charter bus, you settle into a seat next to your work friend, who’s already on the verge of sleep despite the lively and loud atmosphere inside the bus. There’s a stain on the sleeve of her blouse from earlier, and several strands of her hair are splayed over her face.
Regardless of the fact, she’s able to turn her head towards you as you sit and slurs, “Hey, don’t hate me, but I switched our partners.”
You stop moving and turn to her in surprise. “What? With who?”
“Well,” she breathes out heavily, struggling to get the words out, “Chan and I kind of started seeing each other, and this retreat is like… the perfect excuse to go on a super long date.” Your eyes widen. No no no. Whipping your head to the front of the bus, you spot Chan playfully punching Wooyoung on the shoulder as he slides into the seat next to him. Wooyoung smiles and punches back harder.
The engine of the bus roars to life, and you struggle to catch her next words, “Besides, this’ll be good for you. You said you wanted to break out of your shell. What better person to do that with than Wooyoung?”
You frown at the fact that you’re unable to argue her logic. She was right. You needed to communicate more with your co-workers, you were the one that told her that, and work should’ve been the perfect catalyst for it. Your frustration at the situation goes as quickly as it came. With another sigh, you relax against the headrest of your seat and decide what’s done is done. It’ll be good for me, you think.
You catch Wooyoung’s profile in your line of vision, and watching from afar, you wonder how long it would take to befriend him. Surely, it couldn’t be too long, you think when his familiar laughter echoes in the rattling windows of the bus.
With full stomachs and a slight buzz from the several rounds of alcohol, it doesn’t take long for the bus to quiet down, and soon enough, you’re able to see Wooyoung’s head lolling around his jet black neck pillow. You watch him for a moment and wonder if he knows you’ll be spending the next five days with each other.
Before your thoughts have a chance to spiral into a frenzied and deprecatory cycle, you breathe out deeply and force your eyes shut. It was a problem you’d deal with tomorrow.
When you awake several hours later, the bus is slowing to a stop near a circle of wooden cabins.
Getting to the cabin feels much less exciting in the nighttime, with the supposed beauty of the mountains shrouded in the black of the night. But one thing is clear, the meteor shower would shine far brighter in this remote village than it would in the sleepless city you called home.
The spring night is cool, but the smell of the pine trees is fresh and crisp even through your drowsy haze. While waiting to grab your luggage, you twist your head in each direction and try to absorb the tall silhouettes of the trees and mountains around you.
Your half-asleep co-workers make their way sluggishly to their assigned cabins, the lethargy of the bus leaking through the wooden exteriors of your accommodations. You sense Chan and Wooyoung following not too far behind you.
You’re grateful that your friend hasn’t exchanged roommates too as the two of you roll your bags into the double-bedded room on the second floor of your assigned cabin. Before you’re able to ask if she has a preference in beds, she takes two wobbly steps forward and face-plants into the bed closer to the door.
Despite the comically awkward position she lands in, you’re unable to find any energy to laugh as you walk around her to undo the bedding on the other bed closer to the window. After a quick shower and a change of clothing to rid the smell of the nauseating dinner some hours ago, the scentless sleepiness fully settles in your body.
Grabbing your water bottle from your bag, you plop onto the fluffy duvet covering the wooden bedframe. When you tilt the bottle against your lips, you’re unpleasantly surprised to find it empty. Weighing your ability to hold your thirst until the morning, you ultimately decide to get up with a huff.
The porous wooden floors creak with each of your movements, and in your attempt to not wake your friend, they’re all the more noticeable. You tiptoe out of your room, water bottle in hand, and start towards the staircase.
From the top of the stairs, you can see the top of Wooyoung’s head illuminated by the light of the refrigerator in the kitchen. You stop in your noisy tracks and wonder again if he knows. In your thoughts, you observe him momentarily.
He looks refreshed and somehow not hungover at all, the presence of the shots he’d knocked back some hours ago completely invisible. He’s dressed in an oversized gray hoodie and matching sweatpants, and a pair of thick-framed black glasses sit on the bridge of his nose.
You hadn’t seen Wooyoung without his sharp black suits or his slicked back hair. Even earlier at dinner, he had bravely worn a neatly ironed, white button down and sleek black slacks, but here in the soft light of the kitchen, he looked young.
Dropping a few ice cubes into his glass of water, he shuts the fridge. With a glass of cold water in one hand, he scrolls through videos on his phone with the other.
You clear your throat quietly and start on the way down again, unscrewing the lid of your bottle. At the incessant creaking from your footsteps, Wooyoung looks up from his phone.
“Hey there, partner,” he says, turning to face you. So he does know. The dim overhead lights of the cabin's kitchen cast a delicate glow against his bare skin.
“Hi,” you send him a short smile. You didn’t really know anything about Wooyoung, but then again, you suppose no one really did. He could be summed up by work hard, play even harder. For the moment though, you’re simply grateful he doesn’t run away from you. He steps aside, letting you into the space of the kitchen.
He puts his phone down on the counter and on the faintly lit screen, you spot a short of a pitcher throwing an impressive curveball. Opening the fridge once more, you grab the covered pitcher of water. Uncomfortable with the silence, you glance his way once more. “I’ve never seen you wear glasses before,” you point out.
“Oh,” his fingers follow the black legs of the frame. “These don’t exactly scream corporate professional, but contacts dry the hell out of my eyes.” You let the water fill to the rim of your bottle before opening the fridge once more. “Wearing them on a Sunday secretly killed me a little inside,” he quietly laughs. This is the most he’s ever talked to you, and you can’t help but smile back.
“They look nice on you,” you tell him, screwing the lid of your bottle shut. The silence returns, and the short video has been looped one too many times now. You watch the pitcher throw the impressive curveball for what must be the tenth time before you say, “I’m sorry about the partner switching, by the way. I didn’t know they were planning on doing that until earlier today.”
“That’s okay,” he sends you a nervous chuckle. “If it makes you feel any better, I’m glad to be your partner. Chan's competitiveness is exhausting to be around, especially on what’s supposed to be a retreat.” The building condensation of the glass runs between his thin fingers, and Wooyoung eyes you apprehensively. “It’ll be good to finally get to know each other,” he adds.
You nod with a smile. “Absolutely,” you agree, feeling the tension from earlier dissipating slightly. It’s comforting to know he doesn’t completely find you as strange as you paint yourself to be. From beyond the cabin, you can hear the hooting of an owl. “Alright, well then, I’ll see you in the morning… partner,” you wave your bottle and start backing out of the kitchen.
“Sounds good, partner,” he smiles back, and you notice the soft dimple indenting his cheek.
You climb back up the ceaselessly loud stairs but turn back to find Wooyoung looking back as he shuts the door to his own room on the first floor.
When he sends you another sleepy smile from the bottom of the stairs, you find yourself knowing it wouldn’t take that long to befriend Wooyoung at all.

↬ cherry blossom tree | takagi tsukasa
In the peaceful night of the Oya district, a sound of footsteps echoes. As she runs away from the trouble, she takes deep breaths, sweat drips down her forehead, and her heart beats rapidly. She paused for a moment before proceeding to the alley. The alley was extremely dark. However, she discovered a purple neon light in the corner, thought to herself, "it must be an exit," and hurriedly approached it. After successfully exiting the alley, she looked around to see if anyone had witnessed her exit before resuming her run. She constantly checking behind her to make sure nobody is following her. She failed to look in her path, which caused her to run into someone and fall to the ground. A blonde-haired man wearing a pink polo shirt was standing there when she looked up, but the purple neon light made it difficult for her to see his face well. With a concerned tone, he asked "Are you okay?" and hesitantly offered his hand to help her stand up.
Despite her reluctance to accept his small help, she heard a male voice approaching them before she reached his hand. The blonde guy was swift and quickly grabbed her hand to make her stand, then hid in a mini passageway. After looking around, they discovered the man with a student uniform who had been following her constantly. They then encountered another man also wearing a student uniform, with whom they conversed for a bit before setting off to locate her.
The blonde man regarded her with suspicion and enquired as to her relationship with the two men and the reason they were chasing her away. He was continually disturbed and irate about the fact that you were being pursued by the two individuals in the group he despised, asking, "why are you being chased by the two members of yasukiyo faction?" When she tried to speak, she was unable to do so because she was attempting to find the perfect words to explain her position to him. She simply stood still and stared at him. She did nothing more than flee once more.
After arriving home, she went right to her room and collapsed into bed exhausted. Shortly after, her friend Yui sent her a message. She read the message, assuming that Yui was intoxicated while talking about her new friend, "Where were you, I thought you would come with me after school? We were supposed to get crazy at the club tonight :( also I made a new friend!" She just seen the message of her friend, and don't have energy to reply back.
She wakes up the following morning around 6:15 am, giving her plenty of time to get ready for school. She observed a cherry blossom on the way to school, indicating that spring, her favorite season, has already arrived. As soon as she noticed Yui and Madoka standing inside the gate, close to the entrance, she sprinted toward them. Before Yui even spotted her, Madoka did, and she immediately gave her a shoulder tap to let her know she's already here. Madoka greeted me and reached out to give me a hug while smiling, saying, "Kazu-chan," i then turned to look at Yui, who was busily scanning the area beyond the gate. When she saw me glancing at her, she hastily shrugged. "What's wrong? Why do you keep staring at the gate?" I went to her and questioned her. She reassured us that there is nothing troubling about how she is acting right now by answering, "Nothing" with a smile.
I just nodded in response, "we should head inside and do club activities" Madoka added, and then we all headed inside.
~~~
Yui, Madoka, and I are all on our way home together. Yui informed us that she does drug sales secretly from the school and her parents knowledge. "and also.." Before Yui could finish her thought, Madoka cried, "eh, there's more!?" Yui then said, "I was followed by a strange man since this morning."
Next, she turned to face the right side of the street. We both glanced, and Madoka and I noticed a tall man—almost six feet tall. Yui and I attempted to stop Madoka as she approached him. I gripped her arm and pleaded, "Madoka-chan, please don't." She could not be stopped, so we were forced to watch her approach the man. Yui then called her out "Madoka-senpai!".
"OI! Jerk! Stalker!" Madoka yelled at the man, he was confused that Madoka is yelling at someone or him, so he point himself if he was the one getting yelled at. "You! Yes, you!" Madoka keeps scolding the man, that she didn't notice that Yui and Kazumi was getting kidnapped. Kazumi suddenly became aware of the disturbance next to her, threw her bag at the other man, and kicked him in the stomach.
The tall man was quick to see it and took off running as swiftly as he could, hitting the green hair man in the head. While the tall man was fighting the other dudes, Madoka and I quickly went to Yui. Yui then asked "You, the person from housen, right?" The tall man replied "eh?" Yui continued, "those pants are from housen, right?" The red hair man respond, "housen?" Before the beating starts again, a van suddenly appeared out of nowhere infront of us. The red hair man's people are inside, and then he jump onto the van, "I will remember your face" he said looking at the tall man.
After the conflict. The tall man who introduced himself as Sawamura offered to escort us home, but I politely declined. I informed him that I could go home by myself. I said goodbye to them and we parted ways.
Before going straight home, I went to the cherry blossom tree and sat under it, grabbing the pack of cigarettes inside my bag and pulling one of them inside, getting my lighter inside the bag and clicking on it until it lit a fire, but before the fire came into contact with the cigarette, someone snatched it from my hand. I swiftly looked behind the tree, my eyes widening in surprise, only to see him again, the guy I ran into and the guy who saved me from the Yasukiyo faction that night.
"You know that smoking is harmful, right?"
THIS!!! I DON'T NEED KEITA IN OTHER GROUP I NEED 'THAT MF WEATHER' TO STOP PROMOTING HIMSELF AND PROMOTE CIIPHER INSTEAD 👹 ALSO I NEED HWANTIJI TO DEBUT SO BAD MAH BOI WUMUTI NEEDS TO DEBUT ASAP!!!!!
hear me out
Tumblr media
consider this lineup for wakeone and yuehua's mixed project (if forced to play by wakeone's initial lineup). we get wakeonez together. we get ggang reunion. we get hwanjiti. we get variety kings. we get g group members
either seunghwan or hanbin can be the leader they’re both really good at it tbh
main vocals: junhyeon (with lead dancer), seungeon, yunseo, wumuti main rappers: jianyu, jihoo, jeonghyeon, junghyun (with lead or sub vocal for all three of them) main dancers: hanbin, seunghwan (and both of them are all rounders, might as well)
like this whole group is fucking stacked. you got all three and then variety with junhyeons existence and jianyu's silly personality and wumuti and hanbin being social butterflies and yunseo seunghwan reaction kings like hello???
jihoo would also not be the only introvert in this team which will save him from the hells of extroverts
Despite not being one to party, you couldn't turn down the invitation after Jiwoong had let you know Keita would be there. So far you'd done your best to avoid the infamous Jackson Wang parties, but it had been two grueling months of no Keita and there was nothing lined up in the near future for you to bump into him either. So Jackson Wang's house it was.
The anticipation of seeing Keita was enough for you to forget about any nerves while getting ready with Jiwoong. But once you rolled up to the mansion Jackson called a house, you came back to reality. You were about to venture into a lawless place, or so you'd been warned.
Before you even got out of your seat, Matthew and Zhang Hao yelled out for your best friend.
"We recognized your car!" Matthew exclaimed as he ran up to hug Jiwoong.
"You're late, we already did the first hit" You looked at Jiwoong with an eyebrow raised to ask "hit of what?"
"Ricky got ahold of some DMT..." Jiwoong explained.
"There's not enough for you" Matthew said quickly. He'd always been curt with you for some reason. It didn't sting anymore, as it had when you'd first met him. You'd been disappointed that his sunshine smile for some reason was never directed at you, instead his expression whenever he looked at you was more akin to a thunderous storm.
"Sorry, you aren't interested in that stuff anyway, right?" Jiwoong said as Zhang Hao pulled him away from you by the wrist. He knew you were worried about the party, and it annoyed you that he would leave you stranded like that. You considered going home, but the desire to see Keita was stronger than your social anxiety. You walked into the lion's den.
It was both what you expected and completely different. It was still early in the evening, but the house was already in shambles. In one corner of the gigantic living room you saw people doing a wheelbarrow competition; moving closer you recognized Sana as she zoomed towards the beer cup on her hands while Bangchan held her feet up, beating the other team by a landslide.
There were couples making out all over the couches; Jennie and Taehyung being one of them, Wang Zi Hao and Haruto another. You anxiously looked for Keita, but thankfully he wasn't in any of the pairs neck deep in each others throats.
"Enjoying the view? Didn't take you for a voyeur" You turned around. Jay Park, the one guy you wanted to avoid, was grinning at you. You had dinner with him, Keita, pH-1, and a couple of others last month, and he'd kept pouring you drinks you couldn't turn down due to your age gap while sitting uncomfortably close to you. You'd been saved when Keita asked Jay Park to join him for a karaoke duet. But Keita wasn't around to save you now.
"Oh, I was just- taking in the scene."
"First time at a Jackson Wang party?"
"Yeah"
"Don't worry, I'll take care of you" He said. I'd rather you didn't, you thought.
"Let's get some alcohol in you- or? Would you prefer other types of personal enrichment?" He gestured to the tables you now noticed held mountains of white powder.
"I'm good with alcohol, thanks" He slid an arm around your lower back. Your body tensed up. You had to get away from him. Should you shove him or would it be better to simply cuss him out? Was this inappropriate enough to warrant any of that? You couldn't make up your mind all the way over to the bar area. He let go off you of his own volition to get the attention of the bartender.
"And you'll have?" he asked you. At least he cared about your drinking preferences, but it'd be even more nice if he cared about your personal boundaries.
"Vodka soda, neat" You wondered how you could get away from him. Realizing how big the place was, you became fearful you'd end up spending the entire evening staving off Jay Park's advances without speaking to Keita even once.
You got your drinks and he guided you yet again, hand right back to the small of your back. He took you to the patio behind the house. It was larger than your entire apartment. It was dark out and the fairy lights barely helped. You tried to see if any of the shorter silhouettes belonged to a man. Finally you saw a small but wide figure.
"I saw someone I know, I'm just gonna go say hi" You said and slid out of Jay's grasp. You didn't give him a chance to answer. You quickly stalked over to who you believed to be Keita.
Standing right behind the short man, you suddenly grew uncertain. But Jay might still be watching, so you had no other choice but to introduce yourself to whoever it was. You walked the final step to get next to the person that hopefully was Keita.
It wasn't. Instead, the guy who hated you the most was looking at you with his usual disgruntled expression.
"Oh, hi Matthew" you said. He nodded towards you. Not even a hello?
You looked around for Jiwoong, but to your disappointment, Matthew was talking with people you didn't know, only knew of; Somi, Dayeon and Hanbin.
"I can't believe he dared to show his face here" Somi said. Uh oh, they were having what seemed to be a private conversation. You looked behind your shoulder, and saw Jay Park staring at you from the place you left him. You'd have to stay.
"Does he even have any friends here? Why was Ciipher even invited" Hanbin said. Oh, so they were talking about Won. You had only met him twice but he'd been a sweetheart. Knowing how much Keita liked his maknae, their shit talking left a bad taste in your mouth.
"Sorry, I invited Keita who probably invited his group members... I thought he'd know better than to bring Won though" Matthew said.
"It's fine, I don't even care about him anymore. I don't wanna date a broke nobody anyway, his group is about to disband and he's gonna be too old to ever make it" Dayeon said and the others laughed.
"Isn't Kep1er disbanding soon too? And you're the same age as him" You instantly regretted saying anything. The conversation stilled and they all looked at you.
"I'm sorry, who are you?" Somi asked. You wish the earth would swallow you whole.
"I'm just- I'm gonna, I'll go"
"Yeah, you do that" Somi said. There was nothing to do than return to Jay Park.
To your delight, he was gone when you went back to where you'd stood. To your horror, this meant you were all alone.
After getting another drink at the patio bar, you went to the railing of the balcony and lit up a cigarette. The ocean below was calm in the blackness of night.
You never should have come. Was Keita even at the party? Although if Won was, Keita surely must be too. You hadn't seen Won though. You took one last look around the groups of people, but there was still no sign of Keita anywhere. Tears began forming in your eyes.
"Wow, am I really gonna cry while smoking alone at a party?", you muttered to yourself. How pathetic. You took a deep breath and decided to finally throw in the blanket and go home.
You kept looking around as you made your way back down the stairs and into the main living room. Mostly to avoid Jay Park, but also partly to make one final effort to find Keita. Although you weren't sure if you wanted to see him in the state you were in.
Chris Brown was blasting through the speakers. The white mountains on the tables had shrunk into rocks, but were in the process of being refilled by the host himself. Jungkook and Jimin seemed set on making Jackson work all night like Sisyphus though, faces whiter than the snow app could make them.
"Y/N!" Your heart skipped a beat. You'd know that voice anywhere. You turned around.
"Hi Keita," you said. He looked stunning. Maybe even more so than usual. His hair was dyed dark blue, which gave him a completely different aura from the gray hair he'd had last you met him. It paired well with the midnight blue blazer he wore over a black print screen T-shirt. He was also wearing glasses you knew he didn't need, his vision was good, but god if it didn't make him see better it sure made him look fine as hell.
But you were in such a sour mood you got even more nervous running into the only person you wanted to see - the last thing you wanted to do was cry in front of Keita.
"You good?" He asked. So he could tell. You cursed your inability to hide your emotions.
"I am, yeah. I was going to head home now though"
"Aww, but I finally found you" He pouted.
"You were looking for me?" You wondered if your heart was beating faster than Jungkook's, who kept inhaling cocaine in the corner of your eye.
"Uhm, I mean-"
"Keita hyunggg~" You just couldn't win tonight. Matthew appeared seemingly out of nowhere and embraced Keita from the back.
"Hey Matthew!" Keita grabbed Matthew's hand around him. It looked to you as if Keita's smile at his friend didn't reach his eyes, but maybe you were misunderstanding something. You knew Keita was very close to Matthew. Had he heard about the Won slander earlier? You wondered if you should tell him, but that might make you look bad in the eyes of Keita. He might even think you were making stuff up about Matthew since the two of them were a lot closer than you were.
"Whatchya doing~" Matthew said without letting go of Keita. Your eyes met and he smiled, the first time Matthew had smiled at you, but it didn't look like his sunshine smile at all. Was he taunting you? Oh my god, he was. He knew exactly how uncomfortable he made you.
"I'll be on my way then" you said. Keita stepped towards you quickly, making Matthew trip over his feet and finally let go.
"Do you wanna have one drink before you go? My treat" Keita said, ignoring Matthew complaining in the background.
"It's an open bar, what do you mean your treat-" You said. Keita smiled and you melted immediately.
"OK, yeah, one drink" You said. He'd always been nice to you, but never as forward at initiating contact. Come to think of it, he did actually seem to try to start conversations with you quite a lot, but somehow you were always interrupted.
"I want one too!" Matthew said. Ah. You remembered why you were always interrupted.
"Let's go" You weren't sure if drinking was a good idea, the two cocktails you already had had been mixed pretty strong and you were beginning to feel them. That was probably why you were feeling so emotional too. You were usually good at handling Matthew's snide remarks, but now they made you feel like shit.
"Should we do soju bombs?" Keita asked you.
"Yes!" Matthew shot in. A flash of emotion went through Keita's face. Did he look... annoyed? Could Keita even be annoyed? He had always been bright and happy when you'd seen him in the past. You didn't think his small frame could fit negative emotions.
"I'd like one, yeah let's do that" You said. Keita caught the bartender's attention and ordered three soju bombs. So he wasn't so angry with Matthew that he'd flat out ignore his request at least.
"I'm sorry for forcing you to stay for a bit" Keita said once you got your drinks.
"It's ok, it's been a while since I've seen you. How's everything been? Did you finish the track you were working on with Soyeon?" You asked. Keita's eyes lit up.
"Yeah! So, we actually ended up changing the sound completely. We were gonna go for a tropical electronica type of vibe, right? But then we figured, since it'll be coming out in the fall it didn't make much sense to do a summer song and with the lyrics too, and either way it just wasn't hitting, so then-" Keita went on to describe his process and you did your best to keep up with the little knowledge you had of music production. You were interested in learning more though, and it was easy to stay focused when Keita was speaking so passionately about it.
Matthew suddenly yelled out.
"SOMI!"
Oh no. Somi, Sung Hanbin, Zhang Hao, and Chaeyoung walked up to you. You felt like a caged animal. If only you could reach out for Keita's hand.
"Heyy Mattchew, missed me much?" Jeon Somi said and gave him a side hug. Zhang Hao went to hug Keita and tried standing between you and him, but Keita stepped behind Hao to keep being at your side. You were immensely relieved.
"How was your trip?" You asked Zhang Hao. He had been somewhat polite to you and you really didn't want to stand there awkwardly in silence.
"You went somewhere?" Keita asked him. You chugged a bit of your soju bomb to make the time you could leave come faster.
"Me and the others tried out DMT earlier. It didn't really hit for me though"
"Why would you fuck around with that shit" Keita said. You silently agreed but thought you had criticized enough idols for the night. Better avoid making another enemy.
"Ricky kept talking about how it totally changed his worldview" Zhang Hao defended himself.
"It didn't change anything for me but it was fun!" Matthew said.
"I wanna try too" Chaeyoung said, scrunching her lips together.
"I'll sell you some, we have some left over" Zhang Hao said. Hadn't Matthew said they were almost out? It wasn't as if you wanted to try, anyway. But it didn't feel good to know he purposefully lied to get Jiwoong away from you. And that Jiwoong just left you to fend for yourself. You knew and accepted that Jiwoong was ditzy, but he should have known better, and been a better friend. Or maybe it was rude of you to expect him to babysit. Maybe Jiwoong was just as sick of you as Matthew was, and the reason why he took the first chance to get away from you was that you were a bother to be around.
You really needed to leave. This whole night had been a disaster. The only reason you weren't in tears yet was because of Keita's calming presence next to you. You looked at him and immediately met his gaze.
"Do you wanna go for a cigarette?" Keita leaned in towards you and asked in a low voice. Yet again you were way too transparent with your emotions. How could he read you so well?
"Yeah, let's-" Matthew suddenly grabbed Keita's hand.
"You don't hate me for trying drugs right?" He asked and looked at him with a sickly sweet puppy expression.
"I don't, what do I care what you do with your body" Keita replied, trying to shake Matthew off him.
"I was peer pressured by Jiwoong and Ricky!"
"Ok" Keita said.
"Don't you think that's so mean of them? I really didn't wanna do it" Matthew wouldn't let go of Keita.
"It's none of my business" Keita said and this time you were sure of it, he really looked annoyed with Matthew.
"If only you had debuted with us, I wouldn't have been dragged into this sort of thing" Keita's jaw clenched. You knew he was still hurt by not making it to Zerobaseone's final lineup, yet he'd always been supportive of his friends who did. You admired the way he set aside his own feelings like that, but when Matthew brought it up so nonchalantly you didn't blame Keita for losing face, even if it was only for a split second.
"What are you acting all innocent for Matthew?" Zhang Hao interrupted.
"You were the one to convince Jiwoong"
"I just wanted to help my hyung! He's been so stressed out lately! Yet his friends keep texting him to meet up without checking in with his wellbeing..." Matthew shot a quick glance at you. It was obvious who the "friends" he spoke of was. But you didn't even blame Matthew for this shot at you, in fact maybe every comment he'd been making were justified. All along Matthew had just been frustrated on behalf of his friend who you'd been bothering without meaning to.
Jiwoong had been overwhelmed and you'd been pushy. Had you been? In the past month you had asked him a couple of times if he wanted to meet up, and he'd declined until tonight when he said you could join the party. You'd thought that he'd be sad if you stopped inviting him to things. You thought he'd be glad to be invited. But all this time you'd only been adding to his stress. So it wasn't Jiwoong who was the terrible friend, but you.
Your throat started to hurt. Oh no, you really were going to cry. You had to get out of there.
Your vision began to glaze over. You tried to put your drink on the table, but blinded by tears you instead bumped into Somi, who was holding a glass of red wine-
"Hey?!"
“What the fuck?!"
The wine spilled all over Matthew. Just like before, the conversation stilled and everyone stared at you. You rapidly blinked away your tears but they were coming too fast now.
"I'm so sorry, so so sorry, I- , I'll pay for dry-cleaning I really didn't mean to-," you choked out.
"Can you even pay for that? How much is Jay Park even paying you?" Somi said.
"What?"
"I mean- aren't you his escort?"
"She isn't" Keita said.
"She sure looks like it" Matthew said. Keita took off his glasses and put them on the bardisk.
"What did you say"
"I mean, didn't you see how they were walking around together earlier? Is that how you know Jiwoong too? Although I would have thought Jiwoong hyung would have gone for someone a bit more-" Matthew was cut off by Keita's fist hitting him square in the jaw. Somi and Chaeyoung screamed.
"Wha- Did you just hit me?" Matthew asked.
"I don't give a shit that you're hopelessly in love with me. It doesn't give you the right to treat Y/N like that. Keep her name out of your mouth, and while you're at it, mine too. I don't need childish celebrity sick people around me" Keita said and grabbed your hand.
"Let's go home"
Keita dragged you away from the others without looking back. More people had gathered around seeing the commotion, but he shoved past them until you all of a sudden found yourself outside.
He kept holding your hands as you walked further away from the party, down the long winding road until Jackson's huge house became a dot on the horizon. You'd halted crying from the shock of Keita punching Matthew - that really had happened, right? You stopped dead in your tracks.
"We have to go back and apologize," you said.
"There's nothing to apologize for" Keita turned around to face you, still holding your hand in his.
"I- I ruined Matthew's clothes.. and you punched him!"
"He deserved it"
"He... It was all my fault. He's right, I've been bothering Jiwoong all month, or maybe longer, and he just took pity on me bringing me here-" You began crying again. Just what you'd been afraid of, being a snotty mess right in front of Keita. But at that point you'd made such a fool of yourself it hardly mattered. Keita took you in his arms.
"That isn't true, Matthew's just saying that because he's jealous of you. Jiwoong always speaks warmly of you" You held onto his chest. Keita rubbed comforting circles on your back and you put your forehead on his shoulder, your own shoulders shaking slightly.
"He's just saying nice things about me to you because he knows I-"
"Knows you what?" Keita asked and stopped his movement.
"That I... Wait, why is Matthew jealous of me?" Keita pulled back. He put a hand on your face, wiping your tears with his thumb.
"Isn't it obvious?" Keita asked. Time seemed to slow down. You looked into each other's eyes for a split second or an eternity, you weren't sure. Then he looked down at your slightly parted lips, before closing the gap between you.
His soft mouth seemed to barely touch yours, yet a million sparks shot through him and into you, warming your whole body. You closed your eyes and let your hands slide up to his neck. He pressed down harder, then let go for a moment, gently touching your bottom lip with his thumb, before strenghtening the grip on your cheek, leading you back to him, this time the reservation of the first kiss nowhere to be found.
Your breath hitched. Keita took a small step back, one hand still resting on your hip.
"I'm sorry I just.. Fuck, I've wanted to do that for a long time" he said and pulled a hand through his hair. Your head was spinning.
"You like me?" You asked. Keita looked at you for a moment.
"Of course I like you, I've been trying to get close to you for months"
"I just- That's. Wow. I didn't realize. You never said anything"
"I've been TRYING to ask you out but there's always some jerk next to you, or next to me..." You saw the annoyance return to Keita's face as the thought of Matthew reentered both of your minds.
"So Matthew likes you? And you punched him"
"Just because he's got a crush on me doesn't give him the right to pick on you. He's been awful to you for months and every time I tell him to quit he just gets worse."
"I didn't realize people could tell Matthew's been... I thought you were close?"
"We were close and I do have love for him but.. The way he's been acting has really changed my perception of him"
"Wait you aren't..."
"What?"
"Because Matthew is a guy..."
"What? Oh, of course not, fuck, do you think people think like that? Hold on- are people gonna think I just committed a hate crime" Keita looked genuinely afraid.
"We should go clarify so you don't get cancelled," you said and took his hand.
"Nah, it's ok. I'll just leak the pictures of me and Matthew- uhm"
"You and Matthew what? His crush IS one-sided, right?"
"Yes, yes it is. We just made out drunk one time and Ricky took blackmail photographs... Matthew's cute and all but I'm not interested in him, which I've made clear. I only like you" Your heart skipped a beat. He looked shyly to the side. You grabbed his hand.
"I like you too, Keita" You smiled. He smiled too.
"It isn't as if your physical assault on Matthew was the most illegal thing that went down over there," you said.
"Yeah, I'll be good. Still gonna post some selfies I've taken with Seowon and Woonggi to stay in the clear from those types of rumors though.. I mean I can't stop the rumors about the actual assault since well, I did really hit Matthew, OK in retrospect I do regret it a bit. But I don't want to apologize to him after he made you cry" You groaned.
"That was so embarrassing. I must look like a mess right now, I can't believe you kissed my snotty face"
"It's OK, your snot didn't taste to bad"
"Did you really taste my snot?!"
"Maybe a little bit."
"Kill me now"
"How about I take you home instead? And we'll circle back to committing seppuku together tomorrow"
"Ok, sounds like a plan"
It didn't matter that you'd both gained several enemies that night. You finally got each other.
