“What is art” ( part of blog B final)
My response to “what is art” from the begging of the course to now which is the end, I would say it’s still the same but of course with some alterations. I sure do have a lot more knowledge about “art” and how does something become art even though there are mutile things in which you can see art. Art has 10 principles which help you diferente the difference between the art. When you look at art it’s best to describe it whether it’s objective or non-objective. First thing you should do when you look at art is tell if it’s landscape, portrait, or still life from there you can start going into detail. Before I would say art is something that has color which in a way yes I am right but after looking at so much artwork I can see that some art doenst have multiple colors it might just be black and white but that’s when you have to focus on the lines, shaped in the art or if it’s repeated. The type of colors gives the art the satisfaction of using art functions. The two important words when you look at are is to describe and interpret. Describe you have to try and describe the art with every detail and interpret is when you try and see what the artist is trying to tell you with his painting. Art can be anything for the artist to express their feelings while using techniques. Art is work that has description and has a story behind it.
This art contains probably more than 1 principle but one that stands out to me gen most is rhythm. The way it spirals is what gives the artwork rhythm to it.
This painting is a favorite painting of mine which I’ve had on my camera gallery because it’s just so unique and has a variety of colors and objects in the picture. Variety is also a principle in art.

William, Hicks, Weem reflection videos (Part of Blog B)
Carrie Mae Weems is an artist and photographer who is best for her installations that combine the audio, text and photography.Through combinations of photographs she was able to tell the stories of African Americans through the history. She describes her work as a film. She provided context to be able to understand the history. The images are black and white with red monochrome filter and text to emphasize the message of each piece, and she uses the repetition in her art.
Sheila Hicks is a known artist. Her sculptural textile art and unusual and experimental weavings, which incorporate brilliant colors, natural materials, and personal storylines, have earned her acclaim. She created something that appeared to be coming from the sky. She wished for people to be drawn to the artwork. Her weaving grids aren't usually woven precisely. She believe it represents how life isn’t perfect.
Amanda William was a Chicago-based visual artist who wanted to be an architect. She would paint abandoned houses that had been demolished without authorization. What she was afraid of was what might happen. She didn't use paint as a bandage to cover up the problems that were occurring. She felt that if these houses were demolished, the history behind it would not be told. Therefore she decided to paint them in a different style according to what they represented.

Visit to De La Cruz Collection/ ICA (part Blog B)
Visiting De La Cruz Collection and ICA was a great experience over all. I attend on June 10 from 10-11 in the collection and 11-12 in the ICA museum. All the workers were very helpful and explain the artwork in details for me to understand the real message. It was very relaxing to walk around and look at all the artwork. My own personal thinking about a collection is we’re artist go to display their work. I feel like that artist created his or her own work and takes it to the collection. Not only 1 artwork but multiple which creates a collection. The artist who owns the collection welcomes other artists to show their work and are given a section in the collection where they can publish their work. I would say both De La Cruz collection and ICA had large space in their museum. None of the art work was crowded and every work had their own space to shine. Both had a wide space for their work. All the artwork were different and nice in their own ways. Some were just black and white other were very colorful. Some were objective and others nonobjective. There was a variety of arts. De las Cruz collection was very spacious which made it very easier to put the work up. Now ICA had a lot more space but emptier. It had the space but not as much artwork. both of the museums had both small and big paintings. They weren’t al just one size, but most were big. They also both has painting and sculptures. ICA had a floor full of sculptures in the other hand De LA Cruz had a few on the first and second floor. However I enjoyed both of the spaces and believe they have great space for artwork. I highly do believe space works well for the artist because it allows them to not be limited of the size of their art work knowing they have the space for it. I have 1 artwork from each museum that I like the most. From De La Cruz Collection I liked a painting named “Black star Press” the artist was Kelley Walker and around that painting Kelley did four color process silk screen canvases. His message behind this story is because back then Marther Luther King wanted a peaceful protest with no violence. During the protest the police officers came in and started to get violent and the media was saying that the African American were rioting when in reality it was not true. Kelley painted News paper bricks and cut it in pieces to show how the media crops out the truth and shows what people want to hear instead of the truth. Kelley’s painting had that message to show others that everything of the media might not be true. Under my reflection you’ll see the painting. It’s pretty interesting as well as the background story. Now for ICA museum the artwork I liked the most was a sculpture of shredded tires that look like spikes this was a collection of the artist. This sculptures has been sent to different centers and every time it transfer is reconfigured each time it’s displayed. I will also be showing an image of this sculpture. I totally recommend people to attend and support these spaces because they are made for us to learn things we don’t see on daily bases. It’s also a great experience to see different artworks. The museums can be a quiet and relaxing place to just go and look around and maybe even get ideas if you like to paint and do art. Other centers you need to pay to get on which is where the support role really comes into the picture, if they have people constantly going to visit the spaces they make money and are able to keep the business going. Now De la Cruz collection and ICA are totally free which gives you more of a reason to attend. Our community it’s giving us a free pass to visiting and see some art why not take the opportunity to visit a place with free of cost.

Wynwood Art Walk (part of blog A)
The Wynwood walls was over all a great experience. I’ve been there before to just go see some art with my family, but I never really stared at the art and did some thinking. This time I went for the blog I made sure to walk around and put my mind in blank so I can really take in the art and try to see what the artist is trying to show or say. I believe every art has a message and it’s our job to think what the message can be. I attend the walls on a Saturday afternoon. As I walked by not only was I looking at the art but I was also looking at how people would either just take pictures or really sit and think. Not many were deeply looking at the art. I would say the thing that mostly amazed me was the largeness of the painting, such big walls and so much detail in the art. I would’ve really liked to know how long it took and how was the artist able to finish the whole art without just quitting. I was able to attend the gallery inside the wynwood walls which was also pretty amazing. They had all types of art some similar to the ones outside but of course a lot smaller. They were all full of colors. Some weren’t painting it was more like a sculpture type because they were made from different materials and there was an art that was just a picture but instead of paint it was made from lights. I would be showing it on my post. I would rather visit the outside because of how big the art is. Inside they had different sized artworks but nothing compares to the ones outside. Beside the painting the difference between inside and out is that outside you get some air and can’t really hear people talking because they conversations of others don’t echo. The inside is smaller and people are closer to you and you can hear people talking. The Wynwood area was pretty busy. Lots of people were there with friends and family. There’s many different types of artwork but I would say most of them are between either local or universal. I would highly recommend someone to visit the Wynwood walls it’s very relaxing and lets you think outside the box. When I look at art I try and see what the artist is trying to tell me.

Kisama videos reflection (blog part B)
Kusama is a Japanese artist who immigrated to the United States in 1958. Before coming to America, she painted in Japan and continued her love of art in America, but she burned all of her previous work in Japan to start over. What I admire about Kusama's imagery in her art work is that it's different from other artists', and I say that because she employs repetition, but her style for each one is different. Her creative work may appear simple, but the way she incorporates herself into it and how distinct each piece is makes it stand out, as do the out-of-this-world furnitures she creates. As previously stated, Kusama's art work is basic, but the meaning behind it reveals how much emotion and love she poured into it.

Yayoi’s artwork (blog part B)
The two artworks I created are very different form each other. This artwork has a bunch of squares all over the paper. I know everyone knows that circles have to do with the circle of life but I feel that squares can represent Peoples life as well because everyone has different responsibility and usually they categorize it that way they can take care of things one at a time. That’s why I drew repeated squares and different sizes because of the level of responsibilities.
The second artwork has a bunch of sunflower all over it. The reason I chose sunflowers is because I’m a happy person and I would do anything I can to make someone’s day better. Flowers in general are supposed to be something nice but sunflowers make things because better because the sun is bright. Being bright gives positive energy. Sunflowers are beautiful and give me positive energy. I also did them different sizes to implement that happiness comes in different ways. Either love, money, or family.

5/16 Reflection video based on Agnes Martin,Rael San Fratello, and Willem de Kooning/ their roles
Anges Martin
Her motivation for creating art, I assume, was to communicate her feelings internally. She wanted people to be able to grasp feeling rather than require that artwork be explained. I appreciated how she created hazy paintings to convey that she wanted people to feel the emotion of the painting rather than the picture itself. Even thought I I strong people that she should’ve used more colors to her paint. I understand her painting was to seem peaceful but more colors could’ve truly made it different and maybe pop out a bit more. In a way to catch more of peoples attention. I would say the role Anges Martine that her artwork fall in would be the second role because she’s all about emotions and feelings.
“Happy Holiday”
Rael San Fratello
I feel that his art work had to do with people coming together and working together for a certain goal. His painting or of people working on something. This shows group work. I can say that his work can make a change in the issues we have in today’s society.
“Teeter Totter Wall”
Willem de Kooning
I can really say I loved Willem de Kooning’s art because it contained many nice colors. In my opinion what makes art beautiful is when lots of colors are added and different colors. After the year Kooning had been working on art he was able to incorporate his ability in art to make beautiful artworks. For Kooning his role would be the fourth role because of gathering his knowledge to make the painting.

5/18 Chapter 2 reflection with two artworks and roles
From chapter 2 the two artworks that I chose were the Mona Lisa and In Praise of Velazquez. The Mona Lisa is a known painting. Many people have seen picture or have heard of it. That’s one of the main reasons I choose it because I was more or less familiar with it. The arts of the paint was Leonardo da Vinci. The Mona Lis is a portrait. It does not have many colors it just has basic nude and dark colors. It’s literally a women starring. And there a simple background behind her. In the background it shows the outside for example trees, mountains, and roads. It on on oil panel, its 30 1/4 x21.
The second paint I chose was In praise of Velazquez. This paint stood out because it seems like there’s a lot going on. Even though when you first look at it many things may pop up in your head and can be a bit confusing to exactly what is going on. The artist for this paint was Yasumasa Morímura. The women were wearing fancy dresses and men were well dressed up. This group of people look like they were wealthy people. Seems like they were gathered up for soemthing. This painting does not use very bright colors. I would say this is landscape. A lady is passing a tea cup to the girl with makes it seem like she’s praising her. His painting chromogenic print, it’s 30 11/16 x 25 9/16. I would say this painting has to do with The first role because it looks like family and events are taking place. I say events because everyone in the picture is doing something.

River Rock assignment (blog part B)
If someone were to find my rock in many years from now it would pretty hard for people to say what exactly what I’m trying to express myself as. My rock consist of different colors and on the fact it has 3 hearts as you can see. If someone sees my rock in today’s time people will automatically say I’m a happy person because of all the colors. Multiple colors are signs of happiness because of the excitement of all colors. Now most likely heart will always mean love so whether it’s today or in years by looking at the heart they will be able to know I was loved or loving someone at the moment. Colors and hearts represent love and happiness. So people would know my life was in a good situation. I would really like to be alive to see who will find my rock and what will like think about to when they see it.

5/11. Chapter 1 reading/ 2 artworks reflection
After reading chapter 1 the two part works that I chose was “Lion Panel”, Chauvet cave,Ardeche valley, France and Stonehenge, Salisbury Plain,England. I feel that they both have a story behind them which they do put it makes the art interesting. One looks like a something that is a mystery and the other seem peaceful. They are truly different from each other. I wouldn’t say I like the colors because there’s not much color into the art work but I would most definitely say I like the imagery. I would say that the Stones represent a door to gen circle of life. The reading of the Stonehenge never really talked about the reason it was built which makes it more interesting because you can use your own imagination to its purpose.

6/3 Life through a frame
I’ve never really had to act and think like an artist but I can say it’s not as easy as it seems. It can become a bit challenging due to the fact of having to categorize each picture with the 10 different principles. What made it easier for me was reviewing the principles so then when I took my walk outside I knew exact what I was looking for. Even though it became challenging it was a lot of fun and very relaxing. It took off some stress and just worried about taking nice pictures with my frame. I would say my entries fulfill each principle I matched the image with. Overall the this project was very fun and gave me excitement to walk around and notice different things I didn’t before. It being a simple but challenging project it was still very fun.

5/25. Homage/ Romare Bearden
Making collage
My collage is named “care to live”. I came up with that name because once the pandemic started everyone started to see that sickness of others and decided to care for their health due to the fact that a virus was going around. I believe everyone should care for their health with or without a virus spreading. Beardens art work seem to show the event he lived. By that I Mean the Africa community. His art reflected on his life experience and background. After reviewing Bearden’s work I was able to gather all the information I needed for my collage so I went ahead and bought the magazines that I need in order to proceed my art project.
As I gathered the pictures I had to really think what was most relevant to my pandemic life. I didn’t just want to choose random pictures I wanted images that were meaningful. Once I had everything ready I laid it out on my cart board and figured how I would make it look like a collage and referring back to Beardens work. I would say the process to the collage is very simple I just needed to make sure to cut out the right imagines. My approach to it was being determined to complete it the way that I thought about it on my head. I tried my best to layout the images as much as I could. Cutting images for vast areas as said in the instructions. I am truly satisfied with my outcome. I would say it turned out to be even better than I thought because every image really tells an event in my pandemic life.

I will be visiting Wynwood and De La Cruz collection on May 29 in person. I’m an early bird so I will be able to visit both in one day. I’ve been to Wynwood plenty of times but I’ve never been very interested in the artwork. I can truly my say taking this class for a few weeks has opened my mind when it comes to art and I know what questions to ask myself as I look at the art work, so this visit to Wynwood would be a great experience to take a close look at the art work and be able to comment in it. Ive never been to the collection of De La Cruz so I assume that will be a great experience and most importantly observe and analyze all the art work and try to think what the message artist is trying to tell.

5/20. “A Bar at the Folies-Bergère” was my favorite piece of art. The lady appears to be the focal point of this artwork. Her attire and position make her appear to be a bartender. She's behind the bar with bottles that appear to be alcohol. As you can see by looking at the background. You can see her from behind and a man talking to her who appears to be demanding a drink in the mirror behind her. Many people are at the lavish event, as shown in the mirror reflection. The reason I notice luxury is because there is a large chandelier in the picture, and we all know how expensive chandeliers can be.

5/13. Like I said when the class began, “what is art” is anything out of the ordinary that has a story behind it. In other words it has content which is a message that the painting is trying to give. Some art can also have style which related to a movement or period of the art. Art contains form as well, which is the structure of the art work. You can identify that art by categorizing them in the 3 genres which are portraiture, landscape and still life. Art has specific terms; representational is when the art is clear to us and we can see what is going on. Abstract is not as clear but we can definitely see what the art is trying to show. Lastly non objective is when it does not concern real world.
