I mean really? I thought we were UX Designers, not developers.
Can Ugly UX Still Be Good?
A person on Quora asked what they should think about a UX portfolio site that uses a Wordpress template. My answer is getting some attention.
ORIGINAL QUESTION:
“How would you interpret someone who applies for a UX position and has a WordPress template for their online portfolio?
When ever I see a UX candidate who links to an online portfolio with a wordpress template, I am not sure how to interpret it. On one hand, they could be too busy (or not know how to code) and use it as a quick way to present their work. And the focus should be on the quality of the work in the portfolio and their ability to walk one through the projects. I get, and am sensitive to that. On the other hand, I always feel a little cheated. I want to see what they would design with no boundaries. I also feel like one cannot properly design for the medium if they don’t know enough about basic HTML/CSS to make a portfolio for themselves. I am curious to know how other people feel about this.”
****
MY ANSWER BEGINS:
“Wow. You are probably ignoring a lot of perfectly good UX designers because YOU don’t really understand what a UX designer actually does. First of all, someone can do UX for their entire career without ever writing interface code or designing anything that looks pretty. And that person might be an excellent UX designer…”

If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.

Why you cannot design the perfect user experience.
Why you cannot design the perfect user experience.
Tumblr media
User experience (UX) is not the most descriptive or instructional concept. Yet somehow it has become a vital component of web design, leaving many designers who aren’t UX experts feeling behind the times. Well, there’s a big secret that I’d like to share with you that will hopefully make non-UX experts feel a bit better: no one can design the perfect user experience.
Why? It all goes back to the…

Typography as the Cornerstone of Responsive Web Design: Why and What you Need to Know?

It doesn’t take the most modern or innovative research to discover that most of the information on the web is written language. Fundamentally, the web is a textual medium with its main function being to provide information and to help users accomplish certain tasks. Remove the text from any popular website you can think of and it becomes near impossible to use. We’ll use Amazon.com for an…
