I’ve been alluding to this for months, but I really love the idea of ruins in Trench.

…specifically, ruined cathedrals in Trench. Evidence of a time when the Bishops were scattered, operating their small cults independently, before they unified to create Dema. A city of Light.

The cathedrals are something you just…stumble upon. They can’t be seen from a distance and seem to spring up out of nowhere. And they’re beautiful, nature has started to take them over, Trench is doing its work, dissolving stone, tearing down statues, letting in scattered rays of sunlight.

But the cathedrals also carry an oppressive, dark energy as well. Doorways are black, the air inside is stagnant, venture too close and you start to hear voices. Whispers. Snarls. Breath on your neck. A breath that extinguishes your torch and strands you in the inky black.

More experienced Banditos tend to venture in. If the cathedral is old enough, it can make decent shelter. But even the Banditos who have been in Trench the longest freeze if it’s a cathedral that belonged to their Bishop. The voice, the pull…it’s still there.
