The Demon's Crimson Heir

I finished rewriting the first chapter of "The Demon's Crimson Heir" yesterday and posted the work on Archive of Our Own. It's created in a new series, since "Obsidian Empire" doesn't align with the story anymore. That reason will be shown soon in one of the works that I'll add soon. This alternative universe/timeline is where Tim is raised in the League of Assassins and never becomes the Robin and Red Robin as we know him today. I did a deep dive on how and why Ra's would be interested in Tim pre-Robin, and adding a few headcanons in the future soon. But if you want to know, this is how I see how and why Ra's would recruit Tim as his new targetted heir.

How Ra’s Could Notice Tim:

Tim Sticks Out in Gotham:

Tim’s habit of tailing Batman and the Bat-family catches Ra’s attention. It’s not every day a kid in Gotham manages to follow the world’s greatest detective without getting caught. That kind of resourcefulness isn’t something Ra’s would overlook.

He Stumbles Into League Business:

While following Batman, Tim might accidentally uncover one of the League of Assassins’ operations. Ra’s would definitely notice a sharp kid like Tim poking around where he shouldn’t.

Tim’s Smarts Shine Through:

Tim solves a big mystery, figuring out something about Batman, Ra’s would be intrigued (and yes, Ra's knows at this point). He respects brains, and Tim’s got plenty of that, even before becoming Robin.

Why Ra’s Would Be Interested:

Tim Reminds Him of Bruce:

Ra’s has a thing for people who are smart, determined, and capable—basically, people like Batman. Tim reminds him of Bruce in many ways, much more than his intellect, Ra’s would take an interest, no question.

Potential Future Asset:

Ra’s thinks, “Hey, this kid could be useful someday.” Whether as an ally, a pawn, or even a successor, Tim’s skills and connection to Batman make him worth keeping an eye on.

Tim’s Ambition Stands Out:

Ra’s respects people who rise above the ordinary, and Tim taking the initiative to follow and study Batman, all on his own, is exactly the kind of thing Ra’s admires.

What Ra’s Might Do About It:

Quietly Watches Tim:

Ra’s is the kind of guy who plays the long game. He observes Tim from the shadows, just to see how much potential he has.

Tests Him a Bit:

This is a spoiler, morely on how it goes down, so I'm not going into detail.

Basically, Ra’s would see Tim as a young version of Bruce—smart, determined, and full of potential. Even before Tim officially becomes Robin, Ra’s would probably keep tabs on him, thinking he might be important someday.

My AU

Everyone who is familiar with the Batman franchise knows about the famous assassin leader, Ra’s al Ghul. It’s no secret that Ra’s has been fascinated with Bruce, wanting him to become his ideal successor for a lot of reasons; their similar ideology (to an extent), Bruce being his ideal of human perfection (as implied in several comics), and a lot more reasons. Furthermore, they have a very complicated relationship, even without adding Talia and Damian to the equation.

Though, what if Ra’s found a child who’s so similar to Bruce? Same intellect, same determination, same sense of justice, and moral compass? The only thing he has to do is harness the skills of that child and train him to be the best assassin he can be. And that child just happens to be Timothy Drake.

While observing Batman and Robin patrol around the streets of Gotham, Ra’s finds a peculiar child watching the Bats as he has. Ra’s observes Tim out of curiosity and to gauge his connection to Bruce. Ra’s sees Tim as a young version of Bruce, so his interest is piqued. Tim’s intellect and observational skills remind Ra’s of Bruce’s early years, prompting him to consider Tim’s potential as a successor, adversary, or even a pawn in his schemes. ---

My crack interpretation:

Ra's: *looking at Bruce from the window, then looking at Tim* Yeah, close enough. Tim: What--?

*Ra's picks Tim up like a stray cat.*

I already explored this storyline before in my fanfiction, “Shadow’s Heir” where Tim was invited and raised in the League of Assassins. But if you check it, I have not been uploading for a while. I have been writing other fan fiction on my other AO3 account in the meantime as I try to come up with a good chapter that’ll impact the story rather than a filler that has nothing to do with the storyline.

I am rewriting it as of now, since after I had detached myself from the story and found areas that could be written better. Not only that, when I was writing this, I already had the middle and end of the story in mind but not the origin story, which I, now re-read, feel… eh, needs improvement. But in the meantime, you can read chapters one and two. As you can see, it’s in a series, “The Obsidian Empire” (a name that I came up with while playing Minecraft). Which is a Young Justice-based series, so I will make their paths cross.
