The third movement of 6th is so iconic. Shostakovich is the king of irony and king of subtle insult. He is over the top, he reserves nothing, he said you want optimism? ILL GIVE YOU OPTIMISM. The celebration and joy is building up just like his disgust and anger, the climbing intensity to the final explosive, screaming happiness is the progress of people gradually losing their mind, giving up their sanity to the abyss of madness. Full hall of clowns and jesters dancing on burning coal to entertain the king, the tyranny, the dictator. The entire country falls into the state of euphoria, the ecstatic crowd set fire to the city, and everything burns as the cheer grows louder and louder.

HE IS THE MUSICAL GENIUS, THE MASTER OF THE MASTER.

Im losing my mind over 6, I can see the pictures, the motions, the chaos in my mind. Repeat 6th in my cell when I'm finally get admitted into the psych ward, exploding my head and mind until I can't breathe because of excitement and awe.

last night in my dream, I was quizzing someone when the beginning of Shostakovich's sixth started (idk why, maybe to be an ahole or to show she's better than others). The dream me wasn't sure it's six, so she peaked the name rolling off the screen 'Symphony No.6 in B minor, Op.54'. However, to her surprise, the one's getting quizzed named the number and the note accurately.

When I woke up I was SURE that the tone in my dream was not the beginning of six, I thought to myself, it's either five or eight, and i was wrong, it is six, very obviously six.

Moral of the story: my brain and my conscious is two individual, my brain is smarter, better and much more nicer, my conscious is stupid, self-centred and useless, and she's trying her very best to be an undefeatable obstacle to my success and happiness.

I visited Shostakovich's beloved Leningrad.

The city is very very beautiful, enchanting and vibrant.

The longer I stayed, the stronger and clearer I felt the power and nurture of culture and history this city has that supported the Leningraders through the unimaginable seige, and undoubtedly, the more I sympathise and appreciate their bravery and sacrifice.

Im not the biggest fan of mahler while being an absolute fanatic of Shostakovich. However, i got scared and stunned by Mahler's 3 today, i don't have the language or expressive capacity to describe the shock and mind-blowingness of it, impressed is a demise, my world is flapped, my understanding, the construction of my conscious is altered. I have never been astonished like this, never, once, in my life. I physically cannot respond or move but listen to it, I still don't know how to properly address the feeling, it's so scary.
