Critical Analysis of Nadine’s Blog 3
Nadine’s Project 3 consisted of numerous photos presented in rows consisting of 5 photos. Overall, there is over 200 photos, guessing that some are personal photos due to some of the photos have personal titles while the rest are named from the camera files. Majority of the photos consisted a dog, assuming from multiple file names, the dog’s name is Bailey. The photos are contrast between pictures that are taken inside a building in comparison to pictures that are taken outside.
Some of the pictures seem to be repeats of some files, playing with the camera’s settings and manipulating the pictures. Other than the obvious theme of inside vs. outside I did not find any other themes that carries throughout all of the pictures, but there are themes found when in some places of the photos. Some of the photos showed a scene with people interacting with the dog and some with taking photographs of plants and nature.
I found her piece somewhat successful due to the fact she was able to portray the inside vs. outside theme and that comparison. I found that there is too much photos she needed to go through the photos and curate them better. I also found that the organization of the photos could have been polish to make the theme more apparent to the viewer and also stronger.

NPC: The Beginning
My artwork stems from the artwork of Anila Quayyum Agha with her box-like projections. I thought her work about how the EAST and the WEST coming together was very powerful and inspiring. She took her Islamic symbols and patterns and took it to the western museums and institutions. A harmony between the systematic pattern of Islamic symbolism and the architecture. Like Anila, I wanted to somehow bring my knowledge of my background of the Philippines and transform a utilitarian space into the essence of my nostalgic knowledge of the Philippines.
I started my process by creating six drawings, with child-like images, with bold thick lines and simple shapes to create form and scenery. Like Anila Quayyum Agha, I took my images and used a laser-cut to embed my images on a flat medium. My images consisted of two images of ideologies within the Philippines and 4 side images that showed hometown.
My first try was building the box and make it look like a stained-glass effect but due to time constraints and practicality of building my box; it failed and did not make it up. Also due to time and resource I could not find a light source as bright as Anila to create the slick shadow images on the wall.

Miniature Disaster. 2017
Miniature Disasters
Miniature Disasters is a piece I create using a cinemagraph. My choice of a cinemagraph is a literal interpretation of the moving and still photograph. This technique is a continuation of the cinemagraphs that I used in my GIF project. I was mainly inspired by Gregory Crewdson with his cinematic photograph. His photography is something that can be seen in a movie or a film; like a still photo. I deeply favoured his aesthetics in Gregory Crewdson’s photography. Depicting the “creepy”, suspense, elegance. His picture shows the beauty of attributes that are seemed negative.
I tried to emulate the scenery of Gregory Crewdson by shooting in the dark with bright artificial lights to light my subject and scene. I wanted to use the uncanny through my subject, in mid-fall to create this feeling and I wanted subtle way to input a cinemagraph to add another layer. This is piece is a technique continuation and show the skill and love I have for cinemagraph.

In Art: Words I rarely use. (Exercise 2)
Stereography: it is the earliest form of 3-D imaging. Where two closely identical photographs are put next to each other. It can differ by putting it in an angle. The image would see through a stereoscope. A stereoscope is a viewing device similar a binocular. having lens that combines the 2 separate images into one; giving a 3-dimensional effect.
this is an example of a stereograph

Autostereogram: is a 2-dimensional image with repeating patterns on it. Unlike the stereogram, an autostereogram, does not need a stereoscope or any viewing device to create this 3-dimensional image. The eye will look at the patterns at first, but as the eye focuses pass the pattern the images, the images is looked at a slight angle. Stereopsis, the ability of the eyes to turn2 images together, occurs and you are able to see the 3-dimensional images within the 2-dimensional image pattern. An image within an image.

Wigglegram: this an animated stereogram, playing with different angles of the image. The images are in a looping sequence making the image looks like it is wiggling hence “wiggle”-gram.

Cinemagraph: they are combining the elements of still photograph and video. The frame is composed with a still image and the one part of the frame is moving to create emphasis on a specific area, thing or movement.

Really?!?: Everything by David OReilly
This is a screenshot of David OReilly’s gameplay film called “Everything”. The film is introduced like a trailer for a video game. It tells a story of how everything comes to be. The gameplay puts you in this virtual world where animals within this virtual world. They flip rather than walk, crawl or run. As the narrator is speaking; the gameplay clicks to something new and smaller each time and ultimately seeing everything in molecular level then it is reversed seeing the whole universe and its entirety. I feel like this art is based on what the narrator is saying and the gameplay is just to give image of what he was talking about. I feel that the gameplay itself, referring to the movement of characters were not entirely smooth. Makes you think of a independent game or a low budget one. But as you watch the gameplay, you can see the complexity of his video about to create a huge variety of different animals and makes the viewer really feel you are part of this virtual world.

Hybridity: is the simple mixture of two different things, people, practices and combining them to create something new and different.
One of the most interesting hybrid art is by Emily Bryant and Michael Townsend that was inspired by the German scholar, Christian Gottlieb Priber. The installation consisted of 2-D drawings made by tape and 3-D sculptures made of plaster to represent Priber.

I’m Arvic Serapio. I’m an aspiring artist and creator. I have been focused on portrait painting throughout my undergrad and now I’m trying finish my Digital Arts minor and exploring new creative ways to make art; such as photography and video
These are just example my portrait work and the some of my most current work. I work based on the photographs I take and turn them into photorealistic paintings.
I have also had made work using old photographs of my family dealing with the themes of nostalgia and culture loss.
While major projects were done exclusively in oil paintings. My roots come from acrylic painting; stated during high school and continued to current practice; trying to hone better technical skills.
This below is a 10 minute portrait of my father in the dark with only one light source.
Lately I have been trying to work in amore traditional way of Alla Prima; working in wet on wet paint (oil)
