the thing about jeremy blaming himself that fucks me up the most is that it's just. so not his fault. like in any way whatsoever.

like, he was a kid! he was just a teenager when his older brother got him hooked on drugs! a teenager who was struggling and isolated and so terribly lonely! who had just been horribly betrayed by a boy that he loved and was looking for any escape he could get! he was only 18 when noah took his life. it should never have fallen on him to be on suicide watch for his little brother in the first place!

his parents knew noah was struggling and were content to ignore it. his parents probably also knew that jeremy had a drug problem but were content to ignore that too, at least until it became public knowledge. the only time they cared about any of their kids is when it became a embarrassing scandal. noah's death and jeremy turning to drugs was largely due to his parents' abuse and negligence. jeremy just became the convenient scapegoat for it all.

Was going to spend this afternoon finally formatting TGR's file for release, but I am at New Address and all of my project files are at Old Address still. So is my final batch of pre-release fun facts. Guess we're winging it from what useless details I remember:

-TGR ended at 24 chapters, 12-12 split iirc -Took about 7 restarts over way too many months to finally lock in a first chapter I could move forward with. The original Chapter One now happens later. -Found the most perfect song for Jeremy but can't post it yet. Sent it to four friends at like 3am the other day because I needed them to agree with me ('twas unanimous) -This time 'round I *think* I only have 2 reference pics to share, but will wait a week or more to post 'em. Maybe when I update the tags on that last song (last two songs? Idk) -My notes for 3 are about 16pages long so far, so I will probably have to kms at some point this year to avoid actually writing it all out. On the bright side, 3 has had a title & an ending since last summer so I don't have to worry about those two points at least

My art submission for @glimmering-goldfish as part of the @aftg-mixtape, inspired by Numb Little Bug by Em Beihold.

I spent several hours listening to this song on repeat to get ideas, and it kept reminding me of this scene on the roof from tkm. I couldn't stop thinking about that scene from Andrew's perspective, about how tired and raw he must have felt from not only being re-traumatized by Drake, but then going through withdrawal while being tormented by Proust. How that was his first opportunity to be on that roof since he was sent away to Easthaven, and how some part of him must have wondered if it was even worth holding on anymore. And then Neil goes and does that, right after insisting that Andrew is worth protecting, that Andrew is worth risking his life for. And maybe, just maybe, that's enough to convince Andrew that surviving is worth it after all.

Aftg, it's been a while! Almost got a full playlist of song that would match aftg and that I would love to animate, unfortunately I have exams to pass (3rd year art school film incoming) so this is a kind of compromise.

I was asked by a friend yesterday if I could offer basic tips about comic paneling. As it turns out, I have a lot to say on the matter! I tried breaking down the art of paneling using the principles of art and design, and I hope it helps you out!

EDIT: uh uh there are a lot of people reblogging this, so i figure i may as well append this now while i can lol

This whole thing was very much cranked out in a few hours so I had a visual to talk about with a friend! If this gives you a base understanding of paneling, that's awesome! Continue to pull in studies from the comics you see and what other artists do well and don't do well! You can tell paneling is doing well when the action is flowing around in its intended reading format.

Here's the link to the globalcomix article from which I pulled the images about panel staggering! Someone sent in a reblog that it wasn't totally clear that the 7th slide mostly covers what NOT to do in regards to staggering, and that is my mistake!

I saw in a tag that someone was surprised I used MamaYuyu too, and I don't blame them lol. If I had given myself more than a couple hours maybe I would have added something else on, I just really admire MamaYuyu's paneling personally.

uh uh, final append: I am by no means a renowned master of paneling, so if you find anything off base here, by all means, counter it with your own knowledge and ways you can build upon from here! Art is always a sum knowledge of everything we find. 💪

I stared this like a year ago and then came back to it the other night. I’m so glad I did. Modern AU Capri is finally out of my head, I will not apologize. They are your problem now. ❤️

Friendly reminder that people (and well written characters) are more than one thing.

Aaron has some homophobic beliefs; “if you’re gay you shouldn’t be proud of/broadcast it” being the biggest one that appears to me in canon, but probably others as well. AND he stands up for and supports Nicky. His feelings towards Andrew don’t change when he finds out he is gay. BOTH these things are true and exist at the same time.

Nicky sexually assaulted Neil, and has issues respecting other people’s boundaries. AND he deeply cares about Neil’s happiness and wellbeing as well as all of his friends and family. BOTH these things are true and exist at the same time.

Andrew takes his promises and deals of protection extremely seriously. He respects people’s sexual boundaries to a fault due to his history of abuse. AND he seems to feel as if once someone is under his protection he has a degree of ownership over them. (slashing Kevin’s chest/choking him, “don’t touch my things”, always being in control of what the cousins do/where they go.) He physically assaults multiple characters on multiple occasions. BOTH these things are true and exist at the same time.

Kevin is arrogant, single minded to the point of insensitivity, and dismissive of others he deems unworthy. AND he tells Neil to save himself and run, knowing it will cost him the season, which could probably lead to him going back to the Moriyamas. BOTH these things are true and exist at the same time.

Neil is a cut throat badass man who does whatever needs to be done to achieve his goals while accepting there may be collateral damage to others. AND he enjoys and craves moments of softness with his friends and lover and wants to protect them. BOTH these things are true and exist at the same time.

Even Riko, he was a horrifically abusive and cruel person who hurt a lot of people. AND he was a victim of abuse. BOTH these things are true and exist at the same time.

If you keep looking, you will find more things that may seem to be contradictions. People aren’t black and white, good or bad. Complexity and nuance are GOOD. Actions can’t cancel each other out, no amount of good deeds can erase the bad you’ve done, and vice versa. 

Try expanding your thinking! As Walt Whitman said, “Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes.” Things get harder to define and to put into boxes, but they also get infinitely more interesting and useful!

fun facts -- USC: . Had to dig up 2007 course catalogues to figure out where & when Jean's classes would be so I could map him out a proper schedule. Annoyed that Fertitta didn't exist back then because it's a gorgeous building. Also apparently the wheel throwing classes were very different then (one nighttime class vs daytime classes twice a week). Voted in favor of inaccuracy because it's more fun & afternoon practices would make it impossible to attend.

-- Campus sizes: . USC's main campus is 226 acres (.9 square km) . EAU's campus is 456 acres (1.8 km2) . PSU (based off of Clemson ofc) is 1400 acres (5.6km2). Granted that does include a botanical garden that is larger than USC's main campus lol

-- Numbers game . Ye, Renee & Jeremy for the 11/9 date . But also if you write Jean's birthday as 11/9 then he and Nathaniel are the same numerical sequence 1/19 . Bonus: Nov 9 end of the French revolution . TSC had 17 chapters, 12 Jean 5 Jeremy. Ended 108700 words give or take . TSC2 is 22 chapters, 12 Jean 10 Jeremy, and its current word count is about 139000. ((For reference, TKM was ~138600)) This is AFTER I tore out an entire subplot and set it aside for #3 I am going insane

ngl m'lovies, I am.. not feeling optimistic about December anymore. I've spent the last two-three weeks making backwards progress as RL continues to spiral, and I am messing so incessantly with it I have yet to hand it off to ANY of its readers
