godzilla minus one is crazy because it's basically this incredibly serious and tragic story about a man that wasn't supposed to survive a horrible period in human history and the direct aftermath of it and then every once in a while godzilla shows up and it's one of the scariest things you've ever seen in your life

I think it's important to remember, as a rule of thumb, if you take advantage of a social service, it actually makes it easier for other people who need that service to access it. Most of the time, when these services get cut, it's because politicians will look at usage and say "see, no one is really using this thing, we can afford to trim the budget for food stamps by at least half". Whereas if you decide to step up and use these programs, even if you feel like you "don't really need it", at bare minimum it's another data point advocates can use to say "hey, look, people are using this thing, this is an important service we are providing, do not cut our funding".

at some point you have to realize that you actually have to read to understand the nuance of anything. we as a society are obsessed with summarization, likely as a result of the speed demanded by capital. from headlines to social media (twitter being especially egregious with the character limit), people take in fragments of knowledge and run with them, twisting their meaning into a kaleidoscope that dilutes the message into nothing. yes, brevity is good, but sometimes the message, even when communicated with utmost brevity, requires a 300 page book. sorry.

From the October 31, 2024 article:
“In the one place in America where women still have a right to choose, you can vote any way you want. And no one will ever know,” Roberts says in the ad as a woman on screen meets up with her husband after casting her ballot for Harris.
The voter winks at a fellow female voter as her husband asks if she made the “right choice.”
Republicans have responded to the video with outrage, with some claiming that a wife lying about her vote is as bad as an affair.
“If I found out Emma was going to the voting booth and pulling the lever for Harris, that’s the same thing as having an affair,” Fox News host Jesse Watters said on air Wednesday in a clip highlighted by Mediaite.
Other GOP members including Charlie Kirk said the thought was “nauseating.”

queer people on this site really make me feel like a confused straight guy at pride. the discourse here could kill a man
#literally know someone whose kid just cut all his hair off despite liking his long hair#bc people kept using they/them for him#despite him insisting that he doesnt use they/them#y'all need to stop circling bakc around to gender essentialism jfc#also know someone who's butch who gets upset bc people.wont use she/her for her after telling tjem she uses she/her#sometimes people are GASP gnc#and you have to respect that as much as you respect ppl who are nonbinary and etc#like#tbh i go by she/her and they/them#BUT there are some ppl i do NOT want using they/them for me and some ppl i do NOT want using she/her for me#bc they make it weird#i dont like feminine titles (i.e. miss) but pronouns feel like. ungendered to me#but the way that some ppl use she/her oe they/them with me feels line thwyre shoving me in a box#in a very (sometimes) well-intentioned but ultimately frustrating way

Sometimes I'm like "man why am I going through the 5 stages of grief today"
Then I realize that I haven't eaten since breakfast
