COLLABORATION THAT MADE A SPLASH

At the opening of the exhibition in the gallery “HERE ON TAGANKA” we talked to photographer Alexandro Hideki and artist Antonio Lebedef about their joint work, which caused a resonance in the art world.

- Alexandro, how has the experience of collaborating with an artist been for you? Have you had this experience before?

- I haven't had this experience before. It's something new and interesting. Here you feel not just a connection, but the annihilation of two energetic masters, the birth of something third. Photography and painting by themselves are familiar things, but together they create a completely new vision, a synthesis of two life experiences.

- You talk about annihilation. What does that word mean to you?

- It's fusion. In science it has the meaning of annihilation, but in this case it's more of a fusion, a joining. Like two roots that intertwine to become a single organism.

- How do you feel about exhibiting?

- My first solo exhibition was in Pyatigorsk, I photographed children and created black and white portraits. It became an important event for a small town. Later, I held another exhibition in Moscow, at the Admiral Yacht Club, where the GQ Awards are held. But the collaboration with Antonio Lebedef is a completely different experience. The opening at HERE ON TAGANKA was excellent. Full immersion in art, NFT, digital technology. But I'm sure our work stands out because we didn't just combine two art forms - we created something third.

- Why did you choose Antonio Lebedef for this collaboration? 

- I rarely agree to collaborations. Brands, yes, but I have a special approach to art. When I saw Antonio's work, I felt his energy and realized that he was a person worth working with. We found a common language, we enjoy each other's work, so everything happened naturally.

- Antonio, tell me how you perceived your work after the addition of Hideki?

- If I didn't know it was photography and painting, I would have thought it was a single work created from scratch. The work has taken on a special energy and that's what sets it apart from the rest.

- How was your first collaboration born?

- We called it “Touch.” It's a shot where I modeled myself. Hideki managed to convey a sense of time, connecting me to the present and the future. It came out perfectly, like a golden ratio.

-  And how did the next project come about? 

- At Hideki Studio I was shown a portrait of a girl, a modern image of the Mother of God. I was drawn to this work and wanted to add some glitch surrealism to it. The final version was born in a few days. I hadn't done this kind of collaboration before, but Hideki turned out to be a photographer with a deep philosophy. His cultural background, his knowledge of art, his subtle sense of form - all this became the basis for our creative dialog.

- How did the public react to your work in the gallery?

- The curator of the exhibition offered to replace one of the selected works with ours. It was a confirmation that we had created something really unique. Many viewers stopped, discussed, tried to figure out how it was made. Unlike works created in digital editors and neural networks, our work was live - a combination of photography, painting and glitch surrealism.

- Do you have any plans for the future together?

- Absolutely. We complement each other like yin and yang. Our work gives birth to dialog, viewers watch it for a long time, discuss it, mentally interact with it. This is the real purpose of art - to make you think. We have many ideas, and I am sure there are many more interesting projects to come.

 Dialogue with Reality and Illusion

SENSOR MAGNITIC CHARACTERS

A painting is always a window into parallel worlds reflected through the prism of contemporary reality. In his work “SENSOR MAGNITIC CHARACTERS” the artist Antonio Lebedef demonstrates the synthesis of many artistic directions with which he experimented: expressionism, cubism, abstractionism and, of course, surrealism - the main source of his inspiration.

At first glance, the painting may appear to be just an image of the famous character Iron Man from the Marvel universe, surrounded by a colorful background. However, there is much more to this visual metaphor than meets the eye.

Recently, visiting Antonio's studio, I was able not only to see the painting live, but also to talk to the author himself, who told me about his concept. He asked me an unexpected question, “What made Iron Man create his suit and become what he became?” The answer turned out to be deeper than just a physical threat. As the artist explained, it was society and extreme events that forced the character to adapt and hide behind the armor when Stark Industries faced challenges and technology created for good turned against its creator.

Antonio draws a parallel to today's society where people, like Iron Man, hide behind their gadget screens, creating virtual alter egos on social media. They strive to seem rather than be - to demonstrate an idealized picture of life, far from reality. However, unlike the hero of comic books, in real life behind the digital armor are often not billionaires and geniuses, but people seeking to escape reality.

The artistic techniques used in the work reinforce this perception. Abstract compositions of acrylic and aerosol paints applied in a chaotic rhythm symbolize the noise of information overload and everyday hustle and bustle. They literally burst into the viewer's space, creating a sense of layering and dynamics.

The landscape element in the right corner of the painting attracts special attention. Antonio notes that it is a call to natural peace, to a conscious pause amidst the chaos of modern life. It is a kind of counterpoint, calling the viewer to stop and reflect. It is in this contrasting pause that the true meaning of the work lies: rethinking, moving away from digital noise to inner harmony.

Thus, the painting “SENSOR MAGNITIC CHARACTERS” is not just a visual image, but a deep philosophical dialog with the viewer. It is an invitation to reflect on where reality ends and illusion begins, and how to find a balance between the two worlds.

November 19 in Ryazan became a landmark day for contemporary art. At the Faculty of Russian Philology and National Culture of Ryazan State University named after S. A. Yesenin, the renowned artist Antonio Lebedef delivered an inspiring lecture titled “Discover Your Super-Reality.”

The lecture hall was packed with eager students and faculty members, and Antonio did not disappoint. His vibrant presentation delved into the world of surrealism, art projects, and his signature style, glitch-surrealism, leaving the audience both captivated and motivated.

Antonio began by exploring the history of surrealism, referencing André Breton’s manifesto as the foundation of this imaginative movement. He explained how to find surrealistic images in everyday life, encouraging students to develop their creativity and visual thinking.

Surrealism at Kosygin State University

On October 11, a lecture by artist Antonio Lebedef took place, leaving a profound impression. Antonio spoke about the history of surrealism and shared his experience through projects like "Animal Instinct" and "Still Lifes of Our Reality." From the very beginning, it was clear that we were about to experience something more than just a talk about art.

Honestly, I often attend lectures, and I dislike when speakers turn their presentations into self-promotion. When instead of discussing art or their experiences, they start excessively showcasing their success, my interest fades. However, Antonio found the perfect balance: he talked just enough about himself to intrigue us, to make us want to Google his work later or ask questions during the lecture. This approach immediately drew me in and made the talk feel engaging and lively.

After a brief introduction, Antonio seamlessly transitioned into the main topic—the history of surrealism. Even while discussing this artistic movement, it felt like we were still getting to know the unique personality of Antonio. His charisma and the vivid presence he brought to the stage only reinforced this feeling.

One of the highlights was his "Animal Instinct" project. Its scale—1,200 m²—and the fact that it’s painted on a rooftop in the heart of Moscow were simply astonishing. Learning that over 600 liters of paint were used, and that the project can be seen on Yandex.Maps, was a revelation. To me, this symbolized how an artist can bring their ideas to life in the real world.

I also appreciated how Antonio bridged the gap between classical surrealist artists and modern concepts like glitch art. It was particularly fascinating how he smoothly transitioned from discussing Salvador Dalí’s paintings to the idea of glitch, drawing unexpected parallels between these movements.

It’s hard to put into words all the emotions and aesthetic pleasure I experienced at the "Discover Your Superreality" lecture. It wasn’t just a lecture—it was an immersive journey into the world of art and deeper meanings. By the end, I truly felt that I had, in a way, discovered my own "superreality," realizing the boundless potential of my mind, my imagination, and my own surrealism.

And finally, I want to end with Antonio Lebedef’s own words: "In the chaos of colors, the harmony of meanings is born." And that’s exactly what glitch surrealism is all about.

Antonio Lebedef gave a lecture

On September 25, the artist Antonio Lebedef gave a lecture entitled “Know Your Super Reality” to the students of MHPI. At this event, he shared his unique experience and showed several of his large-scale projects, which impressed everyone with their size. In particular, one of them covered 1200 m², which delighted the students. In his lecture, Antonio concisely and engagingly linked the history of surrealism with contemporary events. He talked about André Breton's manifesto and showed how elements of surrealism manifest themselves in life, giving the example of the 2020 pandemic, when everyone wore masks, which created a special surreal atmosphere. Not without the great masters of this trend: students got acquainted with the works of such artists as Salvador Dali and René Magritte, whose works became vivid symbols of the era.

One of the most unexpected parts of the lecture was the introduction to the phenomenon of glitch. At this point, the screens began to show strange visual effects, which the students perceived as part of the artist's intention. As it later turned out, the technique was fine and the glitch was an accident. Antonio called the incident “glitch surrealism,” emphasizing how technology and unpredictable moments can fit into contemporary art. The emotions experienced at the lecture are hard to put into words - it's worth experiencing in person. Here are a few comments from MHPI students:

Animal Instinct by Antonio Lebedef

In Antonio Lebedef's painting from the series "Entropy," created for his solo exhibition at the FINEART gallery, the artist visually explores the concept of entropy. Simply put, entropy refers to the dissipation of energy. Lebedef uses this metaphor to depict the dispersal of human energy into the internet space and the consumption of information, causing people to detach from reality and shift their focus outward.

The concept of "Animal Instinct" is central to the artwork, representing an innate state embedded in the human psyche—a primal, animalistic sense. Over time, as human environments have become less aggressive and more comfortable, our instincts and focus have dulled. Antonio Lebedef captures this transformation through the movement of animals and the materials he uses, applying his signature glitch surrealism. This technique distorts the surrealist reality, skillfully integrating glitches to immerse viewers in the present moment, prompting them to pause and reflect. This is the essence of glitch surrealism: to halt the viewer and engage them in a thought-provoking experience.

The object in the lower left corner symbolizes life and its genesis, drawing attention to the rupture of the black fabric or social networks. Lebedef intentionally creates a conflict in visual perception, suggesting that life itself is a kind of glitch in the orderly system of existence. The question then arises: what kind of life can emerge in the absence of attention? If we are constantly consuming content, how can we provide what is necessary for new life?

The zebra's leap symbolizes breaking free from the comfort zone, the usual cycle of good and bad (as perceived by each individual), and escaping the false endorphin trap we all experience while endlessly scrolling through new videos. The metaphor and symbolism in each part of the painting are open to interpretation. The gathering clouds, with light breaking through, represent not the artificial light of screens burning away the super-reality of our subconscious as we fall asleep, but a different kind of illumination. 

Surrealists have always sought to understand this reality, but now it is being consumed by the bright white light of screens in the night.

Today we delve into the intricacies of Antonio Lebedef's painting titled "Entropy of a Weekend." The artwork intriguingly juxtaposes two seemingly contradictory concepts: "entropy" and "weekend." The term "entropy," a complex and often intangible measure of chaos, is employed by the artist to represent the dissipation of energy. By pausing the external world, the painting invites us to reflect on whether our energy is wasted on unfulfilling tasks or mindlessly scrolling through social media. This contemplation leads to the realization that our energy might be squandered on trivialities, leaving us with only a small window of respite during the weekend.

История создания этой картины начинается  с поездки на природу, Российское зеленое море уходящее далеко за горизонт.   Шелест зеленых листьев и окутывающий вечерний туман таящий в себе образы дорисованные фантазией художника под аккомпанемент великого поэта С.А Есенина..

На фоне яркого солнца и легкого ветра,  от взгляда на изумрудно зеленую траву , мне удалось разглядеть в сознании ее образ - корову с грустными глазами. 

Ее тело было покрыто мягкой шерстью, а на голове украшался рогами, словно корона. Но несмотря на внешнюю красоту, в ее глазах был налет грусти и одиночество. Она стояла на зеленой траве, словно островок в океане, окруженная бесконечным простором. В наших реалиях мы можем? Позволить себе поставить на паузу тот бешеный ритм из потока информации и полезно развлекательного контента. Ощутить потоки свежего ветра ступая по мягкой траве босыми ногами, ценить каждый момент и наслаждаться красотой жизни, которая окружает нас.

Корова - символ плодородия и матери природы окруженная тем абстрактным информационным туманом наших повседневных дней который передан через яркие кислотные оттенки геометрических форм составленных в композиции. Они словно затягивают ее в бездну шума лишая возможности фокусировки на моменте здесь и сейчас. Лишь одно прикосновение…

Рождение..

Картина создавалась в мастерской в полном хаосе и шуме, во время работы звучит громкая музыка абсолютно разных жанров и стилей. Начиная от классического джаза прыгая до хард рока и плавно переходящая в электронную это позволяет сконцентрироваться на потоке, на потоке глитчсюрреализма. 

смешивая акрил, масло, аэрозольную краску и маркеры постепенно рождалась наша героиня. В моменты пауз картина всегда прячется и погружается в дефицит визуального контакта. После того как глаза ее забыли в ход идет создание абстрактных композиций под сопровождение едкого запаха. После наложения финальных деталей картина облачается в  защитную оболочку из лака.

Спустя три месяц  картина попадает на выставку в небольшой галерее в городе Москва  а через еще три месяца отправляется в Берлин на конкурс под названием “банальность зла в нашей жизни” представляя Россию на конкурсе она собирает огромное количество положительных реакций раскрывая проблему поднятую жюри. 

Год за годом выставка за выставкой, картину увидело более 10 000 человек на персональной выставке территория центра современного искусства ВИНЗАВОД в галерее FINEART GALLERY, по концепции художника Antonio Lebedef  картина облачилась в раму из состаренных досок, металлической пыли, каменного угля антрацита и древесного угля тем самым сигнализировала энтропию в полной мере ее существования. 

На данный момент картина продолжает наполняться вниманием бублики и тем самым выключает тот бесконечный поток шума сосредотачивая свое внимание на деталях бытия момента здесь и сейчас.

As part of a competition from mosproducer art inward, artist Antonio Lebedef has created a unique art object that draws attention with its unusual style and deep meaning. In his work, he used glitch surrealism to paint a press stall, in which he raised the theme of the periphery of the past.

With his project, the artist wanted to recall how information used to be disseminated through newspapers and magazines, and how easy it was to ignore or disregard it. Today, however, people are constantly in a state of information consumption and are practically enslaved to it.

Through his vivid images, the artist engages the viewer in a dialog-discussion about the impact of information on our lives. He puts the viewer on the belly and immerses him in reflections about himself and his attitude towards information.

This art object not only attracts attention with its unusual appearance, but also makes us think about the importance of a conscious approach to information and its impact on our lives. Artist Antonio Lebedef boldly explores the theme of communication past and present, and encourages us to think about the future.

Проект под названием (натюрморт нашей действительности) - это расписанная в ручную поверхность крыши в общей площадью 250м2 .

Художник Antonio Lebedef своим проектом хочет привлечь внимание к информационному потоку, который окружает нас каждый день.

Он создал огромное граффити на крыше, площадью более 250 м2, под названием "Натюрморт нашей действительности". Глаза, направленные в космос, словно призывают нас отвлечься от информационного шума и взглянуть внутрь себя или на природную красоту. Этот проект напоминает нам о важности отрыва от повседневной суеты и наслаждения простой, но прекрасной жизнью. Он призывает нас задуматься о том, что на самом деле важно в нашей жизни и как мы можем наслаждаться ее красотой, не погружаясь в информационный туман.
