Perri Nerri
Waiting, 2006
Oil on canvas
152.4 cm x 101.6 cm (60 in x 40 in)
Inviting interpretation, Perri paints the maternal feeling of waiting for a positive pregnancy test. The feeling of unquestionable nurture, protection, and the self-evident invitation of growth seen in the swelling orange-red folds, which at points constrict and appear with an almost shy demeanor.
Perri’s body of work challenges the standard imagination and invites interpretation, providing the viewer with an enigmatic bundle of voluminous folds waiting to be defined. The oil painting’s energy appears trapped inside the abstract, constricting, twisting, clenching, and pulling inwards, yet drapes billow outwards in a bi-directional opposition.
