Final work by : Tatiana Rodriguez
My final project is titled "What are you looking for?" and is an interactive internet experience that tells the story of modern life and the inability to disconnect. Our modern society is so intertwined with the internet and it is such a huge part of our culture that we cannot escape it an its impact. I wanted to communicate the frustrations that a lot of people in my generation face; the endless cycle of trying to not spend too much time on the internet. We connect our lives too closely to the ones we live online, finding it too hard to separate the two.
For this project, I used Procreate to draw all the images and some text, and used Canva website builder to host it and place all the components together. When clicking through the website, the user must click on the underlined text to get through the entire story (except for one page, where you just click anywhere to continue). There was one thing that didn't quite work while working with Canva, which was using custom text that could be clicked on for an event to occur on the same page. This is why on one of the pages where multiple text segments are included, they are not handwritten. I originally planned to make this website from scratch with HTML and CSS, but due to time constraints and not having access to a free domain, I decided to use Canva for its accessibility and ease of use.
Overall, I think the tools I used combined with the purpose of the story go well together. It's pretty simple, accessible, and gets the point across in an interactive way. I could've put more work into this project since the amount of time given for this project was plenty, but I'm happy the way it turned out.

GIF artwork by Melinda Pascal
Through My Eyes is a hypnotic animated GIF I created that explores the eye as a metaphorical "window to the soul" and a gateway to spirituality, self-reflection, and deep thought. My work explores the idea of approach as a multi-layered experience of how individuals interpret the world through their personal and emotional lenses. The central blinking eye symbolizes awareness and consciousness, while my mandala serves as a universal motif for harmony. Together, these elements convey a journey of looking inward while together connecting to the outer world. I layered the patterns and psychedelic colors to create an immersive, dreamlike experience, encouraging viewers to delve into the chaotic beauty of life as seen through a deeply personal lens.
Tools and Techniques Used:
The tools and techniques I used to create this work was Adobe Illustrator to design the complex mandala and psychedelic spiral background. The geometric tools allowed me to create the symmetry and balance within the mandala, while gradient fills and vibrant hues enhanced the visual impact of my piece. I then used Adobe After Effects to animate the blinking eye, overlay patterns, and swirling effects. I also applied keyframing to adjust the movement of the eye and mandala while blending the modes and radial motion to enhance the dynamic interplay of my design.

For my final project, I chose to work with image glitch and distortion and manipulating my own photography work and displaying it on an Instagram page to utilize the grid layout. I really enjoyed the glitch assignment earlier in the semester and felt it would be fun to expand upon for my final project. My goal was to create an aesthetic page that can be viewed by looking just at the grid, but also each individual photo is it's own piece of art. As a photographer, I work in photoshop frequently but don't get to experiment with the tools I used during this assignment, so it was also a learning experience for me & I was able to practice my skillset.
I used photos that I have already taken so I was challenged to work solely in photoshop to manipulate the images, instead of relying on creating the distortion in camera. I also took advantage of the layout of Instagram to showcase the photos in a unique way. If you closely at the layout, you'll notice there is a pattern of alternating color and black and white in the rows, to add another layer to the work.
I enjoyed working on this project and sharing my freelance work outside of FIU with my classmates and integrating my work into this class. I received a lot of helpful feedback from my classmates that helped me develop my concept further and create something unique to me.

nknown World is a scavenger hunt website, where you click objects to learn the characters and their backstory as well as some hints of the world building. I originally wanted to use WIX but I did not want to buy the domain name just yet, so I use Canva instead. The issue occurred when Canva only allow for users to create 5 website for free, so I decided to create an animation with a new YouTube account. I mainly use Procreate for all of my drawings while the animation is a combination of Procreate, Alight Motion, and FreeSound.
The objects to click are invisible, so you have to hover your mouse to find it. There is an object that required a password and there is a hint to figure it out. If you don’t want to do some puzzles then below are areas to click as well as the passcode to enter.
The photo album is clickable.
The top hat on the chair is clickable.
The metal box with duct tape on the top shelf is clickable and requires a password.
The password is FfPKSRMs. It is first letter words on the stick note.
The box on top of the metal box with a mail sticker is clickable, but only the sticker is clickable. It will lead you to a YouTube video of my animation.

Internet culture work by: Samantha Zamora
For this body of work, I placed computer messages/icons that correlate with our bad habits/routines. These images satisfy the requirements because they contain aspects that are related to the web and scenarios that one can encounter when using a computer.
For this image, it's about how over consumption of alcohol can cause malfunctions in the brain and slow the communication between the brain and eyes, causing blurry vision. I put the loading icon as a means to represent the person trying to process what is transpiring in the environment they're in. What I did was lower the saturation, raise the sharpness and contrast, placed this image in Fotor ( a photo editor website ) for the blurry effect, and copied the loading icon from Google with some touch ups, and placed it over my blurry image in Microsoft Paint.
For this image, it's about having too many items to the point where you run out of space, like how your Google Drive tells you that you have only a certain amount of space left before offering you more storage, but at a cost. This photo also had its saturation stripped away with adjustments to the contrast and sharpness. I used this website to create the error message https://relt-1.github.io/app/Links to an external site. where it allows you to make your own error message.
For this photo, it's about excessive sleep after an extended amount of time being inactive. Like the other two photos, the saturation, contrast, and sharpness have been altered. For the message here, I clicked the "Power" icon and took a screenshot of the options available, inverted the colors of the "sleep" option, copied and pasted a mouse icon from Google and placed everything on top of the image in Microsoft Paint.

Glitch / distortion work by Kimberly Lorenzo
Glitch: For my first image, I used photoshop and illustrator to create a geometric pattern, which I later ran through a glitch simulator (bit vision). I then took that final image and inverted it in the iPhone app Picsart. I really love this image due to the fact that you can vividly see the glitch within the geometric pattern. If I had more time I probably would've spent more time on how to possibly create a video of the image glitching.
Datamoshing: For the last part of this assignment I used an app called Moshup, which allowed me to datamosh and image of the sky I took and a video of a butterfly I had in my phone. I then turned it into a gif using Canva to come to this result. The app was a bit tricky to navigate and it takes a while to come to a desired result. So if I had more time I would've spent a lot more time researching effective ways or apps that allow me to datamosh better.

Glitch distortion work by : Lianet Chavez,
For this assignment, I scavenged for pictures of old cartoon shows I’d watch during my childhood and used the art of Glitch and Distortion in order to completely distort the image. For this piece I used Procreate, Chromatic Abbreviation and concentrated on a more zoomed in block size glitch for the final piece. Additionally, I used noise and sharpened the image in order to give it the look of an older television screen. I also used Procreate but instead concentrated on more on using Chromatic Abbreviation to really amplify the overall glitched final look. I used a glitch that pitted pattered more in waves in order to create a sense of movement throughout the piece.
Overall, with all the pieces my intention was to portray the way nostalgia can sometimes serve as a rose colored lens where we look through and explore the journey from childhood into adulthood. My intention with the glitching was to distort said lens and emphasize how nostalgia can romanticize our view of the past. For this piece in specific, I used noise and sharpened the image in order to better convey the look of an old TV programming. I also used glitched blocks and amplified the hue color and saturation in order create a more glitched effect within the piece.

Glitch distortion work by: Melissa Batista
For each image, I used the features in Procreate to create digital glitch style images, as well as several images to collage with each picture. All images utilize layer editing, clipping and bloom effect to add an obnoxious appearance to each picture. The first image is a picture I took with a friend of mine, censoring our faces with a simple decal. The second image is a full drawing with multiple layers of glitch effects and blooming. The last image is a collage of different pictures as well as effects to make a visually complex effect on the lineless drawing.

Glitch work by: Melinda Pascal
Glitch: For my glitch piece I decided to use my digital art I made a few years ago of an angry man in a tie in Adobe Illustrator as an image. I used tools such as the displace filter and scanline effect in Photoshop to shift pixels in broken, chaotic ways to create a sense of anger and emotional chaos and thin horizontal lines that stretch across my artwork symbolizing disruption and fragmented emotions. I also adjusted the hue and saturation to create bold, distorted red tones to manage my image, to express the intensity, anger, and emotional heat. If I had more time, I would further explore layering techniques, experimenting with additional textures and glitches to intensify the chaotic feel of the piece. I’d also have added audio elements, such as distorted sounds or static, to complement the visual disruption and deepen the emotional impact.

Datamoshing: This one was a little more difficult to accomplish and took me the longest. Using several overlays of photos from a photoshoot, I was ultimately able to achieve this effect of datamoshing. If I were to pay for premium I would have been able to make this into a gif.

Glitch distortion project by : Valentina Tovar
During my childhood, there were three places I would call "home." For this project, I have decided to do a series related to these places I identified as Homes when I was a little girl.
This first one was my actual first home. There were a lot of firsts here since it was the first place that allowed me to have my own room and it was the first time my parents were able to buy their own property and move in independently. I distorted this picture with the NotePad tool. I randomly added empty spaces in between the coded paragraphs and random texts as well. I then transferred the image to my iPad and I used some editing tools on Procreate to distort certain areas of the image that I don't remember too well. The purpose of this project is to show how memory is blurred overtime and to capture the essence of what I still do remember from these places that were very significant to me growing up. The images you see here were all taken by a family member in Venezuela. I had asked them for this favor because I wanted to a glimpse of how those places look like today.
For this particular one, I wouldn't remember how the entrance to the building looked like, therefore I decided to distort that one area and experiment with the Noise, Blur, and Glitch tool on Procreate. If I had more time, I would like to play with the NotePad tool a bot more just to see how much of a distortion I can get from just that tool.
I believe this image to be the most interesting one out of the three of because of the fact that I, again, decided to distort the areas I don't remember of this particular place I also used to call home. This house was my grandmother's house from my mom side of the family. My grandma had actually done the floor plan of the house because it was built from scratch, so it has a very significant sentimental value to me and my family. For this one, I used the same process as the other one; I used the NotePad tool first to get those small glitches, and then Procreate allowed me to experiment with it a little bit more. I liquified the areas that I didn't remember the house had. I also made the roof taller since I remember the house being bigger. The skies are edited as well since they are not significant to me when talking about this particular series of images. The sky is always changing, so it is not part of my memory. Every choice has a meaning. I believe I am satisfied with this one but if I had more time, I would have glitched another picture I have of this same place but in another angle.
This is the third place that was very important to me when growing up. It was my grandparents' house and I lived there from the time I was born to when my family and I finally moved to our apartment when I was four-years-old. I used the same process: NotePad for the small glitches and Procreate. This time, the pink motion blur you see in the facade is meant to represent how that area was not there when I lived there or used to go there to visit my grandparents. The rest of the house is pretty much similar, except that now it looks more white. If I had more time to edit this image, I would play more with color correction to see what would be the best way to represent a "dream-like" place or a place you don't remember too well.

Glitch art project by Isabela Madiedo
For this one, I used Glitcher by Aarni Koskela. I used the module “desolve,” which turned the image pixelated. I hit refresh until it came to a pixilation I liked. This image was a drawing I had made on Procreate with various organs on display. The pixelation adds censorship to the drawing, which is often done throughout the internet as a way to provide anonymity or censor gory images. For me, it brings to mind the question of how we censor and what we censor, especially when related to the arts. If I had more time, I would’ve experimented with the color. For example, in clips of medical tv shows on other platforms surgery scenes are censored by pixelating them or changing the color to grayscale.
For this the next image , I used Glitcher by Aarni Koskela. I used the module “streak,” and played around with the “xOffsetChance” and “yOffsetChance,” until the hands touching were at a good level of visibility. This drawing I made (on Procreate) was inspired by The Creation of Adam. I found it interesting how the streaks blurred the faces, and almost seem to be shining light on the hands. I was inspired by how religion, something that’s been around for thousands of years, has interacted with technology. Additionally, I was inspired by how The Creation of Adam shows God giving life to Adam. Through this blend of glitch and art, we have also given life to new art. If I had more time, I would’ve played around with the variables until only the hands were visible. It was hard to control the variables and if given more time I would’ve tried to reconfigure the streaks to run through the figures more.

Glitch art by Oreana Jimenez
What I wanted to achieve or create a nice looking natural scene and then turning the scene into and array of digital pieces, hence the theme of nature fighting technology. The wavy lines and the pixel checks are significant because attractive female beauty is seen through the glasses of a computer. I made this type of effect using Bit VisionLinks to an external site., an online tool. Using this tool, I could rotate the image and apply pixel sort to jumble up the colors, align the colour channels in a way that they fitted awkwardly to create the streaky look and classified the color in a gradient map. If I had more time I would have worked on perfecting the pixel sorting algorithm to obtain a more blended transition from the distorted and undistorted regions as well as find more varied terrains for changing the output.

Glitch work by Elizabeth Hernandez
Lost- When creating this image, I first used Photoshop to design the poster. I began by creating a background with gradient effects and then adding the text. Then, to create the glitch effect, I used a website called Image Datamoshing (https://eyy.co/tools/datamosher/Links to an external site.) . My intention for this piece was to express a sense of confusion or a sense of being lost, and I believe the glitch effect adds to that feeling. It visually represents confusion, and the fragmented, malfunctioning elements strengthen the impression that things are unclear.
Space Invader - For this image, I used the same website to apply multiple datamoshing effects along with other visual effects to achieve the final look. I saw this poster in a place I recently visited and chose to photograph it because it was visually appealing and, of course, because it is a game I used to play as a kid and hadn't seen in a long time. My goal was to portray a sense of nostalgia for the simple video games we might have played as children, like this one and Pac-Man, which I feel like share a similar vibe. If I’d had more time to further develop this concept, I would have created a collage of images from different video games and applied various datamoshing effects to them.
Love Potion- For the final image, I reproduced a design I made recently for another class. The original artwork was an illustration of a tarot card that I titled "The Love Potion." I designed this illustration in Adobe Illustrator and generated the glitching effect by copying and pasting different elements from the original design. I also used some of the effects available in the software itself. My goal with this piece in particular was to deconstruct a preexisting design and transform it into something different but still visually appealing, as well as to challenge myself by creating this image without using any other app to see if I could recreate the same effect using the software I use on a daily basis. If I had more time to work on this idea, I would have definitely incorporated more of the elements that make it appear to be a glitch, as well as experimented with the color palette.

I used images that took in Africa this summer break and distorted the animals using Pixlr. I thought it would be interesting to take out the animal since many of them only live natively in one place and human activity is slowly affecting their environments and habitats. The first one was a group of elephants ranging in ages, the second was a monkey, and the third was a giraffe.

With this project, I wanted to create a digital zine all about me. I want to focus on my personal journey as well as things that interest me, specifically within design as I am a designer. There are a lot of design elements that appear throughout, as they are elements that I am most drawn to and appear the most within the works I create. I had a lot of fun creating this project and I am really happy with how it turned out. I illustrated each GIF frame-by-frame in ProCreate on an iPad, then brought the frames into Photoshop to stitch them together to create these animated GIFs. I then used the website flippingbook.com to host the project. I chose to use flippingbook, because it gives the feel of an actual zine and lets you flip through the pages. I believe that this enhances the project and really gets the idea of the zine across, as opposed to just having the GIFs posted to my media blog. If I had more time to work on this project I would have continued adding pages to my zine and perhaps created longer animations, instead of the short ones that I used.
