Seriously though I imagine that Hobbits are like masters of the polite fiction. They clearly love to gossip and tell tales, but they also really love the idea of nothing actually disrupting their leisurely, quiet lives, so you figure when they decide that not talking about something is required to do that, nobody talks about it. They pick themselves a nice little delusion and by god they stick to it.
Like this other thought I had once was that thereâs this Dwarf that used to come by and visit Bilbo, probably one of the many cousins and relations of Thorinâs Company. And he kind of falls in love with the Shire and is like âThatâs it, Iâm retiring here.â
A Dwarf. Living in the Shire.
People donât emigrate to the Shire. Itâs not done! Hobbits can move from one part of the Shire to another, but you donât have something else entirely move to it from outside of it!
Except it would be abominably, beastly rude to actually tell him that. âNo, you canât live hereâ, what, are we animals? Beasts? Orcs? Plus, uh, heâs kind of fucking rich. Like, really rich. Like he just plunked down a good three times what a hill is actually worth because he says it has âgood bonesâ.
So everyone decides, for the sake of the peace, for the sake of their own mindsâŚ
⌠he is a Hobbit.
Hairiest Hobbit you ever saw. With a weirdly deep hole. Yeah people have been in that sucker and it just keeps. Going. Down. A weird distance down. Lot of stonework. But that there is Mr. Talbin Ironnails the Hobbit. Mm-hmm. Oh, the beardâs just a bit of an eccentricity, donât mind him.
Need some metalwork done? Why, you want olâ Talbin! Best Hobbit youâve ever seen with a hammer and tongs. Dwarf? No, no, who ever heard of a Dwarf living in the Shire! Thatâs just old Talbin! Bit on the tall side, but donât be intimidated at all.
Oh dear, wolves you say? Well, letâs go ask olâ Talbin if he can take care of it. Once took a wolfâs head clean off with what weâre very sure was a very fancy woodsmanâs axe, what with the long metal haft and two heads. Must have a bit of Took in him, does olâ Talbin. Explains why heâs so odd, eh? Eh?
Beer? Drink you under the table, olâ Talbin will! Why, some say he has the constitution of a Dwarf, ha ha ha! HEâS NOT THOUGH.

Meriadoc Brandybuck moments in the book that I wish we saw in the films
Merry solves the riddle of the ithildin door into Moria.
He was quick on the uptake in most situations, including when he anticipated Frodo's need to leave the Shire due to something involving Bilbo's ring.
In Rivendell, he studies maps to plot their journey.
Before the quest, he took charge of the chaotic distribution of Bilbo's gifts after he left for Rivendell, including handling the infamous Sackville-Bagginses.

He was quick-witted.
I've always remembered Lobelia shouting at Frodo that he's not really a Baggins, but a Brandybuck. Frodo says, "How do you like that, Merry? That was an insult, if you like!"
Merry shoots back, "It was a compliment. And so, of course, not true."
His "gentle loyalty", arguably something each of the hobbits possess, but not as emphasized in the films in Merry's case. I love the passage in RotK that describes Merry's courage arising from empathy for Eowyn's plight:
"suddenly the slow-kindled courage of his race awoke. He clenched his hand. She should not die, so fair, so desperate! At least she should not die alone, unaided.â
All the main hobbits play a significant role of their own in the Scouring, but it struck me that Merry is really the one who takes the strongest leadership role to rally their fellow hobbits and challenging the ruffians.
And to all this I love that Dominic Monaghan added hints of his own cheeky, devil-may-care energy.

The Fellowship movie did Bilbo so dirty â ď¸ I know they didnât make the hobbit movies yet so they were trying to keep the focus on Frodo but:
Bilbo is friends with Aragorn and comes to his defense over Boromir rather than Legolas
Bilbo volunteers to take the ring to Mordor first so nonchalantly like an old queer professor on sabbatical volunteering to cover a 101 course and everyone at the council is honored by his offer
Literally not even scared or sad about it or anything â just straight up âyeah okay I see what youâre getting at, Lord Elrond, Iâll do it đ
guess Iâll have to rewrite the ending of my bookâ
Bilbo doesnât ask to see the ring again or make a go at Frodo but instead sings a sad little song out the window after giving him Sting and his mithril shirt
âit is my dwarf-mail that Thorin gave meâ AAAH
Bilboâs there when they leave Rivendell in the winter and tells them good luck like a worried little peepaw
Also the movie makes it sound like he never got to Erebor but HE DID and was traveling with some of the original company including Gloin whoâs the only one who smiles when Bilbo volunteers to take the ring to Mordor

I saw a post that said Billâs and Twelveâs relationship is special because they took the time to become friends before travelling companions and I agree wholeheartedly. I feel that many of the other companions see the Doctor as a hero that comes swaggering into their town to save the day and they assume the Doctor is a picture book hero. Later the companions realise the Doctor may be a hero, but he isnât always a good person. He doesnât always make the best decisions. Bill meets the Doctor as an absentminded professor who is always questioning morals and the universe. She sees not a hero but a man first and then the hero. I think thatâs why sheâs so quick to call out his bull about moving on. It brings to mind the exchange between Twelve and Clara.
Clara: Admit it, I was a good Doctor.
Twelve: You were an excellent Doctor. Good had nothing to do with it.
I personally think that Billâs and Twelveâs relationship is one of the most vulnerable the Doctor has ever had with a companion. The Doctor is aware that Bill knows his flaws before she got into the travelling and knows that for Bill the hero pedestal is on the ground.

last time my mom visited I was talking to her about parenting and how I appreciated a lot of the choices she and my father had made about raising me and my brother and she agreed that just listening to the child and taking them seriously was the One Weird Trick to cutting out like 60% of conflicts between parents and children. and she said one time I was about three or four years old and we were all going to the grocery store, and at the threshold of the store I just had a meltdown. i was overwhelmed, I was crying, I was just at the end of my rope like kids get sometimes. and instead of dragging me through the store my mom and dad stopped what we were doing and just asked me what the problem was. and I was able to say I didn't want to be there, I couldn't do it, I wanted to go home. and she says she and my father just looked at each other and back at me and said "okay" and we all went home that day instead of forcing the grocery store trip. and I had so few public meltdowns as a kid despite being pretty autistic because, I think, I knew that if I ever really needed to leave, my parents would understand and back me up. and that was the case throughout my childhood. which paradoxically (one might think) resulted in me having fewer incidents of being overwhelmed in the first place, which then made me better able to handle increasing amounts of stress and so on. it also taught me that expressing feelings and communicating them to my caretakers wasn't going to be punished or ignored or called weird, so unlike many other autistic kids who get judged or rebuked for expressing sensitivity or opposition, I didn't need to constantly blockade everyone and internalize everything all the time.
it's a pretty simple concept whether your kids are autistic or not, but most parents don't seem to get it. their parents taught them to just force everything and let the child deal with it alone so they just repeat the cycle even though they know how it feels.

please don't forget that this ceasefire is just a reprieve from the ongoing genocide. we need to continue boycotting companies supporting the israeli occupation and show our solidarity towards our fellow humans in gaza. please please continue to care about all of this till the state of palestine is liberated.
gaza has faced a lot of damage in the last fifteen months. the sewage system has been destroyed. houses have been flattened forcing people to live in tents. hospitals are barely able to function. schools, offices, businesses, parks and so many other things have been turned into rubble.
it is crucial to help palestinians rebuild gaza during this ceasefire. i request you to support my friend alaa rebuild her home and provide her children with a roof. her fundraiser has been verified.
please help my friend rebuild her home

I know Tumblr BitRate is gonna make this look like trash but yeah, sorry about that!
Streaming is about interacting. Full-stop.
I'm so proud of my streams and the interactions I can pull off! My chat gets playing cards that directly influence my outfits but more importantly, my games!
From visual stuff like this to dropping a ton of salmon on me in Minecraft, the interactivity one can do is legitimately limitless.
Follow me! I'm not desperate for validation, I swear!

Something that stands out to me about Boromir is that he's the only one in the Fellowship, and among the only ones in the rest of the movies, to fight with a shield.
And to me, that distinct fighting style says something about him as a person. He, at his core, wants to protect others.
He always fights to protect! He fights to protect Gondor from Mordor, he fights to protect everyone in Moria, he fights to protect the hobbits. He fights to protect until his final breath, and it's tragic and valiant and haunting.
He is so aware of his mistake only after he made it. He really had just wanted the Ring to protect Gondor. He did want to use it for good. That, as well as his father's pressures and the ring's powers to tempt people, are what caused his fall.

Eomer and Eowyn only talk to each other once in the films
but they communicate so much.
When Eomer first returns with a wounded Theodred, an entire dialogue is shared between Eomer and Eowyn without a single word passing between them.
This mutual look of concern, they're both on the same page.
Eowyn then goes on to look at Theodred's wound. It's interesting that Eomer now looks curious above all things, he's waiting on Eowyn's judgement.
Eowyn looks at the wound and grimaces. It's bad. Theodred isn't going to survive this.
She looks to Eomer, who looks back at her in grim resignation.
They go to Theoden to inform him of the situation. As Eomer walks by Eowyn, he doesn't speak to her or interrupt her, but he puts his hand on her back as he passes. Even when the focus is on other things, he is giving her that gesture of support and fondness. That it is done without fanfare shows that this sort of affection is commonplace.
They both stand before the throne, both of them united in their attempt to reach through to their uncle. They're a team, a unit.
Eomer throws down proof that Saruman, who Grima is trying to protray as a friend to Rohan, is sending his soldiers to terrorise their people.
Eowyn gives Grima a death glare, challenging him to refute her brother's accusations. She's on Eomer's side, Eomer's team.
Eomer sees Grima looking at Eowyn, and knows what he wants. It fills him with fury.
Eowyn sees her brother choking Grima against the wall. She looks on in cold silence, then walks away.
When Aragorn reveals that the beacons have been lit, Eowyn rushes into the throne room, drawing to a stop at Eomer's shoulder. They wait together for Theoden's judgement.
When it comes, and Theoden sends Eomer to muster the troops, Eomer bows, but even before he has fully straightened up, his eyes go to his sister.
Again, no words exchanged, simply a look of common understanding. They both know what the risks are, they both know what is at stake, for the world, for their country, for their family.
Before Eomer leaves, he touches Eowyn's arm, before walking away.
With Eomer gone, we see a steely determination come into Eowyn's eyes. Now there's something Eomer's missing, now Eomer's back is turn and there's something about sister that she's keeping from him. She's riding to battle.
The one time they speak to each other, they're in opposition. About Merry, about Eowyn, about war.
The words are harsh. Eomer is stern, Eowyn is defensive.
But Eomer puts his hand on Eowyn's shoulder. He doesn't say "I don't want you to get hurt, I don't want you in battle", but that hand on her shoulder, tells the audience that's exactly what he's saying.
Those small moments of physical affection culminate in one great moment, when stern, stoic Eomer discovers Eowyn on the battle field, and breaks down in tears, cradling her and rocking her like she's a child.
And his devotion to her ultimately shown in him sitting small and hunched, tucked in on himself, crouching down in armour for what seems to have been a lengthy space of time, as he sits by her side, waiting for her to be healed.
This is such an effective way of showing to an audience that two characters love each other, when there is a limited time window. The movie needed to crack on to cover the ground it needed to cover, and with so many important dynamics to reveal to the audience, the creators needed to be time effective. Eomer and Eowyn don't share much screen time, but the looks exchanged, the passing moments of intimacy, tells us clearly that these are two people greatly fond of each other, and have been fond of each other a long time.
The lack of spoken dialogue almost enhances it. Little is said between them because little needs to be said. They already know. The one time they do speak, it's when they're quarrelling, because that's the only moment when they need to use words. The rest of the time, a gesture, a look, is enough.
